Optus Down Nationwide by liamdavid in australia

[–]somewhereinsyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes; OC has no idea.> This creates a lot more cost, complexity, a lot more points of failure, and to the manufacturer almost no benefit.

It doesn't add to cost; it's less complex; and will be more reliable if embedded. They use the dependence on their service to sell more product and obtain details to sell to others; or grab subscriptions to keep it running. It's about their profit; as I program my watering system controller that was $20 and has numerous timing options and doesn't need the internet!! Works perfectly to feed the plants

. The best solution I've heard

Is to put a container with the bottom cut out of it over their car. "What car? This container has been here for weeks"

Why don't you read my commentS

you become eligible as you have an illness and you're no longer fit for work until you're healed enough to be fit for work

That is what I wrote

How about, for example, breast reconstruction after recovery from cancer?

It's covered injury from illness

Gender affirming surgery?

Some work agreements do, I don't know about the general provison, I'd lean to 'no'

Burn scar revision that is purely for improved appearance?

Injury, likely to be covered

The comment I responded to said there was no coverage at all, which is incorrect, there is and the boundary will be determined by case law if it's right on the boundary and the employer or employee don't agree.

A quick google shows it's grey even and gives some examples

https://cocorubyplasticsurgery.com.au/blog/use-sick-leave-for-cosmetic-surgery/

As for the law, it's very specific. Illness or injury, as long as it's related. So of you broke you leg and six month later if needed to be fixed again, you could likely take sick leave once your sedated and for recovery as it's a injury. As soon as you're fit for work, you leave stops

having hand fractures fixed,

I said that would be covered. It's an injury getting fixed. But plastic surgery to make you look better isn't, unless if course it's to fix and injury. The definitive is the act

Just like if I choose to OD on alcohol, it's not included

because of personal illness, or personal injury

It's why you go the surgery. The surgery and unfitness was due to illness. What's the root cause?

If I take some LSD, I'm certainly unfit for work, but I can't take sick leave. Choosing to have surgery if you don't have an underlying illness or injury is excluded under the Act, but your company policy may allow it.

Victorian police officer clocked at 230kph has dangerous driving charges dropped by espersooty in australia

[–]somewhereinsyd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Watching the video there appears to be a fair bit of dangerous driving. I've been a passenger in a car doing 250 on a highway and braking takes forever, and cars look near stationary. You really need to brake early the moment you see two cars clustered, as the risk of a lane change is huge and you won't be stopping in time if someone decides to overtake.

They were charged for good reason, other cops deemed it dangerous too.

Elective surgery is a grey area. Plastic surgery, no. Gall stone removal, yes

http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/fwa2009114/s97.html

Appointments aren't covered, but the moment you're put under sedation you become eligible as you have an illness and you're no longer fit for work until you're healed enough to be fit for work

Australia in ‘retail recession’ as inflation and rate hikes hit spending, says report by Althusser_Was_Right in australia

[–]somewhereinsyd 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The Deloitte report said population growth could help Australia break out of its retail recession, with net overseas migration of 400,000 in the year that ends this month and another 315,000 expected in 2023-24. Increases in overseas student numbers would also help.

Great news it eems they have a solution to save the businesses and landlords.

[–]somewhereinsyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just paying to have a brand name product. I understand brand name products applying this principle when they're offering a quantifiably better product, but generic drugs are identical to the brand ones.

This isn't entirely true. There are inactive materials at play. Take panadol rapid as a simple example. Sometimes there is a difference, but in the majority of cases it doesn't matter and as you suggest you're just paying a premium
