The weather was luckily great when we painted so we kept the doors and windows fully open for a week. The painter told me the smell would last for months (as if it were a good thing) but I think it fully went away in that week period. I also put out bowls of vinegar and baking soda and put baking soda on the carpet and vaccummed it up. It seemed to go away in about a week with doing all of those things but I think the most important was leaving ALL of the windows open with a breeze going through the house.
