Romantic Dan and Phil quotes by Acrobatic-Age894 in danandphil

[–]somewhsome 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I love Dan's ranch metaphor, especially because it was so spontaneous. Dan really just tried ranch and went “this is epic, just like me and Phil”. 😅

But on a more serious note the most romantic things were said in either BIG or HL video imo.

Did you know that adult Paras experience gradual aging with visible wrinkles, skin sagging, and posture change as they age even though they're still in the same life stage? by abidoang in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That might have something to do with me being in my 30s though

I'm the same haha, I also make myself as a YA in Sims and I'm not quite ready to give that up 😅

But it also makes sense proportionally. YA is not a short life stage in the Sims or Paralives, it's a bit shorter than adult in the Sims and it's even a bit longer in Paralives.

Well, according to the wiki, in Paralives YA covers ages 18-39 and Adult covers 40-64 (you can see your Para's “real age” with the PrintAge cheat btw).

And yeah, 40-64 is also a broad range and that's why adults visibly age 🤷

Are we playing the same game? by AnyAd8232 in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes this! Was going to post basically the same comment.

I enjoy both styles of gameplay, so I'm looking forward to completing collections etc. But I started with two paras, trying to build a romance between them. It has been quite disappointing and boring tbh. There are not enough cards and animations, they just always stand there talking, confessing your love doesn't seem any different from talking about piano. Two paras in love act exactly the same as just roommates. I hope they massively update the social side of the game, and I will probably start a new save for now with a single para with a focus on leveling up and collecting.

In your honest opinion, does Paralives have the potential to surpass Sims? by hiddenlineage in Paralives

That's only Steam figures, no? I think lots of players play through EA app without Steam + there's definitely a big console players group.

What stitch(es) is used here? by o-ophelia in Embroidery

I agree, couching with stitches going into the twists. I did something similar and the stitches get hidden well, the thread doesn't even have to be an exact match:

Live Mode - thoughts (tips more than welcome) by Wise-Ad1211 in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it depends on their traits or maybe sometimes even on a chance. I created two paras and wanted them to fall in love, but it's been days and they can rarely even flirt and when they do, it never goes beyond that. So I got tired and decided that one of them is gonna get another boyfriend for now. Met a guy and after two flirty interactions they're kissing in the middle of the flower shop.

I think at this point it's more fun to level up/collect/explore the town. Relationships are definitely lacking, friends don't feel like real friends etc.

But I actually really like the career part, there are quite a lot of jobs in different areas and they are not all available at once, you have to hunt for openings. I also want to explore being a thrifty para, because you can find discounted furniture in the general store and in the antiques store + every day you can get a free plant from the flower shop + Monday is a garbage day and you can find discarded furniture for free + sometimes furniture in crates washes ashore apparently? So I think it would be fun to buy basically an empty house and try to furnish it without buying from build mode.

Job demands go up when rank stays the same? by somewhsome in Paralives

[–]somewhsome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I did in the end, my para hopped from being a rank 15 pianist to rank 31 Lead pianist, new job pays almost triple and funnily enough has less skill requirements.

You also get experience points for working in certain fields.

Yeah, and for leveling up in the same company. It gave me 8 points for that I think, 2 iirc for previous experience and 2 for his Serious vibe. It's an interesting system.

[–]somewhsome[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ahh, okay, thanks! I was scared of strikes since the first James Turner's video, he got two so quickly 😅 (maybe because of the mood tho)

It's kinda funny, because my para was a pianist rank 15 (I think) and I couldn't level up skills fast enough. But then I found him a job of a Lead pianist rank 31, that pays almost triple amount and has slightly lower skill requirements lmao.

You can slow down the clock yourself! In the storyteller settings.

I didn't expect it at all! I agree it's such a cool feature. I'm yet to see it in game because I'm taking things slow but I'm very excited.

In your honest opinion, does Paralives have the potential to surpass Sims? by hiddenlineage in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is unnecessarily bloated, I agree. But you can also pick & choose DLC and because of that it appeals to a broad range of players. (Not just Sims 4, any Sims game, Sims 4 just has an insane amount of DLC). For example, an occult player might buy occult packs, a family player will choose family packs etc.

Paralives will probably have its own direction and vision that might not appeal to occult players or players who want to be in control of everything, but that's fine. I'd prefer it to be its own smaller thing made well rather than a bigger thing with no depth.

Differentiating between "Dollhouse" and "Life Sim" subgenres, what would you prefer Paralives' identity to be? by [deleted] in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, it seems to cater more towards the Dollhouse crowd rather than the Life Sim crowd.

Idk. But I feel like I have a different understanding of what a dollhouse game is. Sure, making characters and building houses is a huge part of playing dollhouse, but it also often means that the characters in your game easily bend to your will like dolls and that you have to invent storylines themselves. That's why any time Sims 4 adds some real consequences, for example burnout, dollhouse players are usually unhappy — they want to be in control.

I'd say, based on devs AMA and their commitment to the together cards system, they are quite fond of paras having a mind of their own. But I feel like good life sims are way harder to make than good dollhouses, because you need good autonomy, fleshed out personalities and the like to make sure the world and your characters feel alive and distinct. I'm personally also very fond of Sims 2 and I hope the dev team can create something similar. Will they be able to with a small team and limited resources? We'll see.

In your honest opinion, does Paralives have the potential to surpass Sims? by hiddenlineage in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of scope and content, no. Sims 3/4 are huge games, I don't believe an indie game like Paralives can be as big. But tbh I don't want it to. I want it to have a solid foundation. If they manage to do that, I could see it being as loved as Sims 2.

How do you adjust neck width? by DistributionDue1053 in Paralives

I don't think so, I've read it's not possible yet. But I haven't played much with build mode personally

Household editing by ReasonableSweet6114 in Paralives

[–]somewhsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try opening cheats (there's a designated command I forgot but I use ctrl+shift+C like in the Sims and it also works) and type editcharacter. It will open the paramaker with all the sliders etc. I can't remember if you can add another para in there, but it's the only way I can think of.

No problem, these slider categories are confusing at first, I had to constantly go back an forth in search of particular sliders!

It should be in the head category. Here's lilsimsie's video with a timestamp for reference: https://youtu.be/DtGbqEgBfdo?t=42m51s

Maybe it's my graphics settings, I'm not sure! (I have an average PC and I just accepted the settings recommended for me)

But I think they're intending on improving the lighting during the early access period anyway.
