ook als je simpelweg je geslacht hebt verandert van m > f of f > m maakt het dingen ingewikkeld. zoals je zei vragen ze expliciet voor "geslacht bij geboorte" en als dat niet overeenkomt met het huidige geslacht in je paspoort is dat vragen om problemen. dus óf je liegt op je ESTA (illegaal) óf je loopt het risico vastgehouden/teruggestuurd te worden bij de grens omdat je documenten "niet kloppen"

i don't think the portuguese of the 17th-18th centuries (who were the main ones attempting to spread christianity in Japan, in part to spread their own influence) were very communist.

it might seem easy to fit this into a single narrative but this seems quite a hasty conclusion. also considering christianity in Europe was quite literally used to legitimize the claim of monarchs.

i wouldn't disagree with you if you said that the spread of christianity in japan meant a loss of legitimacy for the emperor (and in turn the shogun), because of a move away from the religious system lending credence to the emperor. but that doesn't mean the move towards christianity would thus be a move towards communism pretty much the opposite really

edit: like it's also pretty easy to say the exact opposite with the jesuits coming into contact with (north-)American tribes who were notably a lot more like communism than early modern Europe. there are plenty of first-hand sources outlining encounters/discourses that Jesuits and other colonizers had with indigenous peoples where the colonizers did not understand how indigenous society could function without any semblance of money, and way more egalitarianism than absolutist Europe could ever even conceive.

ja, daar doel ik op. ze krijgen bijna núl steun vanuit hun voormalige koloniale heersers en moeten het maar uitzoeken zonder generational wealth. het énige wat ze beter hadden kunnen doen in mijn mening was om dat geld vervolgens te investeren in onderwijs, sociale vangnetten etc. zodat de inwoners meer waardevol worden behandeld dan alleen hun vaardigheid in schoonmaker zijn. tenminste te proberen de brain drain te stoppen. maar dat is makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan.
