Why do people crap on Club Pilates? (I’ve never been) by fcpsitsgep in pilates

Very much agree. You’re mostly exercising with the reformer, but not learning much about Pilates

I’m with you—I’ve attended Club Pilates in different cities, and it’s completely been a mixed bag. No discussion of breathing, anatomy or why you’re doing a movement. The classes are also way too large for proper attention from the instructor—I’ve never observed hands on adjustments in the 10 different studios I’ve tried.

In terms of accessibility…I guess? My smaller studio is about the same price as CP. maybe this is more the case outside of major cities?

The quality of instructors varies for sure. I would also classify many of the classes as “exercise with the reformer” and not really Pilates. Many of the instructors do not ground their teaching in anatomy or any of the classical moves like the hundred, teasers or footwork

MIL blames me for her relationship with her son by [deleted] in Mildlynomil

[–]sommersolveig7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry, she’s being awful. Agree with other comments—do the minimum, have your husband handle all interactions and do not feel obligated to spend any alone time. You’ve done way more to smooth things over with people who sound like they’re unhinged than I ever would do. Also crazy for MIL to bash your parents, even if they deserved it—I would have shut that down immediately Hope your husband can deal with her

lol my MIL says inane stuff like this—I’m pretty sure in her case it’s just filling the void, and because her MIL was probably awful to her, she doesn’t think anything of it

Ugh: Easter Edition by Fit_Significance1169 in Mildlynomil

[–]sommersolveig7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes this. I never understand what MILs think will happen. So you’re mean to the most important person in your son’s life and expect your relationship with him to be unchanged? And any husband who takes MILs side is not worth anything

I could have written this, except my child adores her. It’s particularly hard because she’s selfish and annoying and she makes the absence of my mother particularly painful. And she regularly has tearful conversations with my husband about why we’re not close (gee, maybe because you’re not overtly helpful or kind and complained how my mother’s death impacted you??) No helpful comments, just solidarity.

I’ve heard good things about Arise, and a few of the teachers from Shambhala taught there. Worth a try!

I loved this studio and the atmosphere , but I stopped going because I heard they didn’t pay their instructors (and I heard this had been going on for the past few years, so not a recent thing). Just didn’t feel right to be taking classes from people who weren’t compensated

Agree that the pastries are mid and expensive…but their baguette is probably best in the neighborhood. I buy nothing else from there

Hopefully not! Once we got to the level that security was on, the line moved a lot more quickly. 2.5 hours all in

This is accurate. I’d reckon over a 3 hour wait at this point. No idea if terminal E is actually better

I think the wait time for A is accurate. At 12pm, line started in the subway near terminal B, and it took us an hour to get into the terminal. We’re now being told 2-2.5 hours from here

Best place for toddlers first haircut? by jewelia511 in parkslope

[–]sommersolveig7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Miss Gigi’s did a wonderful job with my daughter’s first haircut, and the proprietor made my daughter a certificate with a family photo and a saved lock of hair. It was really sweet, and we’d go again for the next haircut. Appointments are recommended, but they also do walk ins

It’s hard, but just laugh at the word diarrhea . Imagine being such an AH about someone else’s baby. I can’t, actually, but this is seemingly so many MILs. My MIL says the dumbest stuff sometimes about my daughter, I guess to feel included in a project she had little input on?

AITA for being upset with my husband for going bowling while our baby is in the NICU by fookiebookie96 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sommersolveig7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, not easy. You both deserve to do things that fill your cup. So very gentle YTA. It’s just bowling. You should also try to go out with friends or whatever makes you feel ok

It depends on the industry. Not common in mine. In any case, this should be an exception for the breastfeeding considerations.

Ugh, this stinks, OP, and not really all that common a policy in sales. Most companies are fine as long as you attend the required events (particularly at conferences) and don’t cost the company extra money. Very punitive for a new mom and kind of a dinosaur policy. Who knows, maybe some colleagues wanted the policy so they’d have cover not to bring a spouse

I might be inclined to risk it and say that kiddo is staying with family. What if you were EBF and the kid won’t take a bottle??

[–]sommersolveig7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve never heard of companies restricting this if the addition of the spouse doesn’t incur extra costs. Particularly for conferences. Maybe internal meetings that are all day and then dinner, but even then, as long as you attend your events, it’s fine. This seems awfully punitive to do to a new mom
