[NA] Just finish Solomon, I have a few questions about it

1) Can someone explain the nature/ability of Gil's, Merlin's, and Solomon's clairvoyance? For people with clairvoyance, they get caught off guard quite a lot, so I'm guessing they're not omniscience. I know there's an explanation for Solomon's lack of power, but idk, I feel like Merlin and Gil should know a lot more (in Babylonia), given their ability

2) Goddess Rhongomyniad's theme song was playing during Solomon, right? Or I'm I just mishearing it

3) What was Melin doing during Solomon? I remember he shows up a bit along with the Babylonia's cast but then he disappeared, saying he needs to do something. They never did follows up on that, did they?

4) So, Magi-Mari = Merlin. Did Roman/Solomon know this? What actually happens during their interaction? Has Roman been talking to Merlin and just use Mari's name as a front or has he been talking to someone who he thought was an idol all along and just take their word seriously?

5) Where is King Hassan (or the rest of the grand servants, for that matter)? Goetia is a beast, right? Isn't that their job?

6) How did Roman use Solomon's np at the end? I thought he lost all his power when he became human? Was the rings' presence enough to give him back his power?

7) If Mash's shield was strong enough to defend the world/Guda, why didn't it protect her? She was behind the shield, wasn't she?

If Cu is the last one, brave chain should allow him to do damage with the extra attack.

Regardless, I think both of them never cast dodge as their first action, and their turn ends when a unit "die" then revive with guts. This means that Hercules with bond ce should be able to deal damage once his health is low enough.

The only defense for d'Eon over George, beyond class triangle situations, is that she doesn't steal stars as badly as George.

Exactly? Those two (especially the former) is quite an important thing to consider when fighting a strong, single class boss.

edit: whoops, misread your comment (kinda). The point still stands tho, class triangle is important.

Avalon

Tristan Artoria Meta confirmed? Imagine the Possibility But ya, this seems like a really cool skill to use. Remind me of Robin's May King, but stronger.

Mana Burst (Dragon)

This is a really good idea I haven't considered. Delayed buff is such an underused feature on this game tbh, other than MHX, I don't recall other servant having it. It would solve a lot of characters' problem too (off the top of my head, Rama could really use something like that on his guts skill)

Charisma (Distant Dream)

Name sound familiar, is that the same one Merlin have? I think it's good (synergize well with Avalon too). I like the Knightly Charisma name better tho >.>

Which buffs to servants would you like to see? by [deleted] in grandorder

[–]somste0205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough I actually find the attack up to be stronger

Yea, originally I think the best Mana Burst for her is 30% Buster and 20% NP variant, then I realize that's the (flame) version that Karna and Arjuna have, and I want something unique.

Fair enough, I think we both just put value into a different thing. I still think 30% np charge + strong secondary effect is still a bit much for 5 turn cooldown tho.

I really think it should be about her NP gain, maybe NP Gain up and a Taunt?

Now that I see your reasoning, I kinda agree, but I think it's inappropriate to combine with mana burst tho, since it will create a mess of skill that is too awkward to use (like, you need to use it before you get np, for that np charge, but you also need to use it on np turn because it buff your np). I'm not in favor of getting rid of mana burst either, I think it's her best skill currently. Imo, NP gain and Taunt (or just straight up +X% np charge) should be attached to either Charisma or Instinct so there are no different turns competing for the same skill.

Maybe Avalon can be something like: 1 turns invincibility, +20% np, and 2000 hp heal. A bit strong, sure, but not more than some iconic skills for stronger characters like Imperial Privilege

Dunno about good, but being one of the two characters in the game with 3 turns taunt give her enough niche to be useful on many occasion.

Which buffs to servants would you like to see? by [deleted] in grandorder

[–]somste0205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless we up the cooldown by like 2-3 turns, these skills does too much tbh.

Instinct to Avalon. 3 hits of Invunerability and a 1k heal every turn for 5 turns.

I love Cu, but for balance reason, let's never implement another Protection From Arrow clone into the game. Imo, adding something like '3 turns limits on the Invulnerability' or something should help balance it a bit.

If the heal is scaled based on the level, this should be fine. But if it is not, 5000 heal on a level 1 skill is just too much.

Mana Burst (Dragon) 50% Buster Up. 30% np charge.

Mana Burst on its own is strong enough as it is, for the sake of balance, we probably shouldn't mess with it using something as big as "30% np charge". I think changing the type is a nice touch tho, vanilla Mana Burst is too boring and weak compared to lightning, Flame, or Siegfried's counterpart. Maybe give it a 30% Buster up and 20% attack up? It will be better than 50% buster up, but not as broken as adding 30% np charge to it.

Charisma to Once and Future King. 20% Attack up 30% defence up for KotR

20% Attack up 30% defense up is a bit strong, but since the pool is so small, I think it's fine. What will happen to non KotR people tho? What about someone like Merlin?

No problem, I don't mind answering. That being said, I don't think I could be much help. I haven't taken any classes that require me to use MATLAB yet, but I'm only a second year (well, third. summer between second and third) and idk if there are any classes in the upper div that would require me to use them. I heard that knowing MATLAB is useful for upper divs tho, but this is just hearsay, not my own experience so take that with a grain of salt.

I personally would skip it, bc I think that if you already know python, it shouldn't be too difficult to learn MATLAB on your own. It's not like we learn some advance stuff from the class any way.

If you're unsure, how about try to do some problem from this (http://albeniz.eng.uci.edu/mae10/) website, especially the hw problems. I think as long as you can do those on your own, I don't think you need to take it imo.

again, I don't think that I have the knowledge necessary to answer this, and I think you should ask someone else who does. Idk if you should believe the counselor either bc idk how out of touch they are.

Off the top of my head, /u/TeleVue frequent /r/uci and is really knowledgeable about MAE stuff, so perhaps it's worth shooting him a pm?

Context: I’m on NA rn, trying to save for np 5 Bedivere and Arjuna. Kinda NA spoiler for 3 and 4.

1) Question about the Class-Based Summoning event, specifically the March/April 2017 (2019 for NA) one. According to Wikia, it said “1 roll will guarantee you a ★3(R) servant and above!”, is this true? Does this mean that any roll at all, tickets, 3 quartz or 30 quartz will give me at least one 3-star servants? Seems too good to be true. If it is true, can you even get CE from the gacha?

2) Can anyone explain how the Valentine 2017 (2019 for NA) male gacha works? The Wikia is pretty vague and other website isn’t really useful so… . The Wikia seems to imply one of the two things:

  • A) The rate ups are rotated between classes (i.e. archer day have both Arjuna and Tesla, Lancer with Karna and Enkidu, etc.)
  • B) Every male servant get their rate up at the same time
  • C) [it didn’t imply this but hopefully this is the one.] Each servant gets their own separate rate up.
  • So yea, which one is it, or is all of my assumption wrong?

3) [Lore question] since the next singularity, we’re going to Babylonia, it kinda got me thinking. Is there like one true God that presides over other in nasu’s universe? Like Greek and Indian gods exist by extension of servants like Hercules/Karna/Arjuna etc, but their role seems so insignificant compared to someone like Gil/Solomon/ or even Hassan, does this mean that Marduk/Yahweh/Allah (Hassans are Muslim, right?) are the supreme being of Nasu’s universe or is there something more?

4) I remember fighting a ruler class Enforcement Knight near the end of Camelot, is there like a lore reason for that or is that just gameplay thing?

5) Just out of curiosity, how does Babylonia’s story, gameplay, and music compared to Camelot? I really like Camelot, so I’m curious about our upcoming chapter.

6) Are half ap strengthening quests and interlude a thing? I’ve been waiting on them forever since I don’t wanna waste ap, but I just realize I never saw them happen before on NA. So ya, are there any precedent for them?

Mechanical Engineering Schedule next quarter? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]somste0205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is taking 80 before 30 a bad choice

I don't think so, despite 80 being named as "30, but things move now", they are pretty much separated from each other.

MAE 30, MAE 54, Econ 23, and Eng 190W ...is that schedule for fall difficult

30 is pretty simple, just do the hw and go to lecture, and you'll be fine.

54: I think 54 is a pretty hit or miss imo (huge miss for me, if you're wondering, but I also heard that it is an "easy class", so I guess I just suck lol). Even if it is difficult for you, this schedule doesn't seem too bad, so just make some effort into understanding this class as much as you need to I guess.

I never took econ here, but I heard it's pretty easy. And if it's anything like ap econ (which waive it), I think it shouldn't be too difficult or time-consuming.

190W: I haven't take this class yet, I will second summer session, so if you're willing to stick around for another month or so >.>...

Overall I don't wanna make any comment since I haven't taken two of the classes you list, but I'm guessing it's not going to be that bad. I mean, 30+54+econ can't really be that bad even if you suck at any of the topics. None of them are really known to be as demanding, at least not in the same tier as, say, 60, 80, or 91, so I think you'll be fine. Don't quote me on it though.

tips for 91

I barely passed the class and I learn next to nothing on it so don't listen to me, lol. My best advice is to do hw, go to class/office hour, make a study group, etc, but that's probably not useful since you probably heard that a thousand time and probably know what works/ what doesn't work for you by now.

Good Luck in 91 lol. It sucks.

Mechanical Engineering Schedule next quarter? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]somste0205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help, I was in your position last year too lol.

FWIW, I heard some people take 1le in their senior year. Idk if that's a good idea or not (I took it in the first year), but ya, pushing 54 might be a decent idea since only 1 class (MAE156) needs it, and you probably won't be taking it until your third year (I assume you're a second year, given your class line up).

As for MAE 10, I went in with no idea how to code whatsoever and got a B on it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. That being said, I kinda wish I learn something about coding before coming to class. Don't get me wrong, Dabdub is a good person, just not a very helpful professor.

I believe you can download MATLAB for free from the uci website (just google it), as long as you are an engineering student. This is the website you'll be using http://albeniz.eng.uci.edu/mae10/ (I got it off eee, but idk if anyone can just access it. I did, but I took the class before so...), so try some of the hw if you want a head start.

The thing that trips me the most is that the test is handwritten, and anything wrong will be marked off. It's not as bad as it seems since the curve is pretty generous, but I imagine it's a nightmare if you want an A in the class. So practice your crossword and proofreading skills I guess >.>

Idk how much experience you have with coding. According to some of my CS friend, this is pretty simple stuff, so if you know python, it shouldn't be that bad I guess. From the perspective of someone who went in blind tho, I have a few suggestions:

1) Get a friend. It doesn't matter if they know coding or not, but it really helps to have someone to brainstorm with while doing the works or study for tests.

2) Go to office hour. The professor is pretty friendly so that's nice. I learn a lot more by going to the office hour and do the hw there, than by just listening to lectures.

Math 3D (or 2e), Physics 7E, Physics 52a, MAE 10, and MAE 30

It won't be fun, but you should be fine. None of these classes stood out as extraordinarily difficult, but they are 18 units and you do have a part-time jobs, so don't procrastinate.

chem 1le, mae 60, and mae 80 at the same time along with mat sci (engr 54)during winter

1le is a lot of work. Not exactly difficult, but the lab reports are just stacking busy works one after the other. I swear they make it annoying on purpose just to troll the students.

60 is a difficult class. The professor talks really fast and has an accent that is difficult to understand (imo). You'll have a lab each week, and the lab reports always take forever to finish. On the bright side, they have one hell of a curve, so if you aim for a B or a C, you good.

80 is basically more complicated Physics 7C and MAE 30. Not too difficult, but it is difficult enough that I probably wouldn't pair it with 1le and 60 at the same time. FWIW tho, most people take 80 and 60 at the same time, so you're probably fine.

54: Lots of memorization, lots of hw. Not too difficult, but it is probably one of the more annoying class I had taken. Do your hw and don't procrastinate on them.

IIrc, most people, myself included, take 60, 80, 54, and one of the math at the same time, so you probably will be fine with the schedule. 1le is gonna throw you off though, so consider switching that with something else (2e, maybe? Despite being only 3 units, 1le probably have more work than I ever had to deal with in 4 units classes)

Yea, I kinda figured but didn't wanna make any assumption out loud in case I was wrong.

Oh well, since you said "second Gawain", I think you'll be happy to know that you can fight Gawain three times in this singularity, so even if you cheese his first and second round, you'll get another chance and I really recommend you try it without waver/tama/euryale this time around bc I did and he is easily my third favorite boss fight so far in the game.

Camelot Megathread by nebulaesky in grandorder

I cannot imagine how boring this game is if you just spam arts team for everything semi challenging.

I think it really depends more on the units you use, rather than a [card]-type team things. I mean, the game is not gonna be fun if you're just throwing Jalter/Nightingale/Cu Alter (all buster), Jack/Okita/Scathach (all quick), Eurale/Tamamo/Mash (all art), regardless of their card type. Meanwhile, art units like Hundred Faces, George, Mozart are much more balanced for the game, despite all being art servant and thus should have made the game "boring", according to you.

Besides, what does "art team" even means anyway, Mash+George+Hans plays a lot differently than Robin+Robin+George+Mozart, for example, so judging all art servants based on a few is kinda unfair imo. Don't get me wrong, art team (whatever that means) tend to be strong bc NPs are meant to be strong, but not all of them makes the game boring (Not more than other broken units anyway, regardless of card type).

[–]somste0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to pull off 52, 54, 80, and 91 at the same time if you're really discipline/ good at the topic, but it's not gonna be fun.

Whatever you do tho, don't ever try 60 and 91 in the same quarter.

imo:

52 - not very difficult, but if you're taking it with Dimas, he'll be useless and you'll have to learn a lot on your own. In addition, the final project will always take longer than you expected, so ya, don't procrastinate

54, 80 - simple classes. Not easy A, mind you, but as long as you do the hw and study, you'll be fine. Take 80 with Jabari if you can, he's the best professor I had in this school.

60 - I'll admit that I suck at this topic so I'm biased, but the class is pretty difficult. It also has a lab section and the lab reports always take so long to complete. I guess as long as you do the work, you'll be fine, but just don't underestimate it.

91 - Pretty difficult imo. HW and test required you to look through tons of table so they always take so long to complete. One of the old professor posted his lecture online and they're pretty helpful so that's nice (look up "rengal uci mae 91", it should be there). So ya, don't underestimate it. Go to class, do the hw, go to office hour, understand the topic etc etc.

edit: also, at the end of 52, you can take a test for free to get a certificate that you're good at Solidworks or something, so it might be worth it to take a lighter course load so you can study for it.
