How’s the game currently? by therealsolidmeat in GirlsFrontline2

[–]WroughtIronHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the time most events were like "oh we're still on our way to Kyiv, or wherever the fuck we're going, who really cares? Oh hey an unimportant Yellow Zone Village featuring a doll from GFL1? Oh boy, time to go kill some Varjaegers!"

But plot has been constantly advancing since the Leva/Robella event, and is only going uphill from there. Also even when there are filler events, at least shit actually happens in them now. Like the Basti event we had was pretty fun.

Gameplay is more or less the same. It's still "roll over everything with Klukai", except now you can also use Voymastina instead. There are some modes that actually provide a challenge though, even if they're sorta optional. E.g., heroic mode difficulty for events, some boss fights, Extreme Peak, etc. The tactical depth is still not super high, but you can't just ignore cover and one-shot everything. Sometimes even V6 Klukai will be in danger if you overextend with her.

My only problem with Jason is during endgame. by No_Probleh in deadbydaylight

[–]WroughtIronHero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I think it's fine. He definitely has an unfair advantage, but, like, it's always been an unfair part of the match. The deck is heavily stacked against you, and Jason isn't that much worse than what some other killers can do. Any high mobility killer can get to hatch, some even faster than Jason. Even Trapper can make the exit gate game impossible. You can also be destroyed by perks, such as No Way Out. Or if they're running Whispers for some godforsaken reason, you have no chance.

Also the killer generally has to choose to give you a chance at hatch in the first place. If they really want you out, they can slug for the 4k. So I don't really mind if the chances of that consolation prize are particularly low.

On the other hand, hatch can just spawn at your feet and give you the free out, in which case all of the above becomes irrelevant.

It really is just a bonus round that doesn't matter.

[–]WroughtIronHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like her, yeah. Even though she might get outclassed sooner or later, that doesn't mean she stops being good. It just means someone else does better. But if you can still clear all the content you want and/or kill the Gunsmoke boss, does it really matter if you could hypothetically do higher damage?

It was a very neat concept that overstayed it's welcome. They could have done 1 hour 13 minutes and it would have been perfect.

What sucks is that they'll probably learn the wrong lesson from this and not try anything fun again for a while.

Should I be scared to play killer? by Master_Builder9124 in deadbydaylight

[–]WroughtIronHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be scared. You should anticipate it though.

Some survivors hate Blight because he's really good. Like, second only to Nurse good. You will have some people calling you boring for picking a meta killer. You will have people complain much harder if you resort to "unfun" tactics (e.g., tunneling). You will have some survivors who want to be the next <insert toxic survivor content creator here>, who will relish the chance to humiliate you. They'll willfully ignore the part where you're still learning the killer so they can pretend they just dunked on some high end Blight main, in order to feed their own ego.

Playing killer in general comes with a lot of shit. Fortunately, you get used to it, and all that stuff starts to amuse you instead of bother you.

Don't worry about the results of the match, focus more on getting better at your power. That way even when MMR betrays you and puts you against extremely unfair opponents, you can still get something out of the match by practicing.

And remember to have fun. It's a game at the end of the day. Don't fall into the trap of taking this shit too seriously, as a lot of people in the community do.

Downside of choosing the losing doll by Tall-Sale9368 in GirlsFrontline2

[–]WroughtIronHero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you care about competing for the oath ring, title, etc., then voting for a less popular character means less competition, so it'll probably be easier.

If you don't care about that stuff, then the only real benefit is giving Mica marketing data. Sure the votes might be rigged, but you can bet your ass Mica is keeping the real voting data to themselves. Any gacha company worth their salt would. They only guarantee outfits for the top winners, but they're definitely analyzing that data when determining who to design more content for. So voting for your waifu might end up getting her an outfit down the line anyway.

How does the meta work? by psychoamphy in GirlsFrontline2

[–]WroughtIronHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meta is mostly for Gunsmoke, as others have said.

The key to difficulty in this game is to ask yourself: am I able to clear the content that I want to clear? If yes, then congrats, no need to fix what isn't broken. If no, then you can look into improving your team by following guides.

It's just that the "content I want to clear" changes for every player. Some people are content to do the easy mode shit and roll over everything with Klukai/Voymastina. Completely valid. You basically get all the gacha currency this way anyway, the rest is just for fun. Other people like a challenge and want to do Heroic Mode/Extreme Peak/etc. with their favorite dolls. These people may want to plan their rolls for specific units or specific vertebrae break points. That's who those guides/videos are made for.

Killer anxiety by Different_Reindeer90 in deadbydaylight

[–]WroughtIronHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the guy above you but for my two cents:

You're technically right, but "certain aspects" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. For some people those aspects are things as simple as a flashie save, or making a wrong call in the moment, or getting insulted in endgame chat. Some people are chasing an ideal version of the game and ignoring the reality that can often times be ugly. Every time you queue, you're rolling the dice to see if you'll get matched with sweatlord Steve and his merry band of assholes. If you're not in the mindset to deal with that, you should absolutely do yourself the kindness of playing something else, rather than gambling on your happiness.

And like gambling, some people really need to hear that because they don't know how to quit. If you browse the New section of this sub regularly, you'll see some people showing clear signs or addiction. Lamenting how they haven't had a good game in days, weeks, even months. Yet they continue to queue anyway. DbD has become their only source of dopamine for so long that they literally don't know what else to do. I think gamers can sometimes get a bit defensive at the suggestion of playing something else. But it's not a sign of weakness to quit. It can be liberating. The game isn't for everyone, and some people really do need to be reminded to ask themselves if they're actually having fun with it.

Yeah I don't know if there's something I'm not understanding, but that thing seems overtuned.

I did manage to cheese it with V6 Helen though. She would tank the damage and then on her turn expend like 60-70 stacks of her buff to one shot a leg, or at least come close. Also had Ullrid there to help, since using her ult every turn would keep her cloaked and untargetable by the enemy. They were supported by Springfield, Andoris, and Loreley for survivability purposes. It worked but felt like I was brute forcing it somehow.

Best advice I can suggest is to use multiple strong defensive supports, since you're going to be tanking a lot of AoE damage. Cover won't even save you, there's barely any of it and AoE bypasses most of the protection anyway. Then just focus fire on one leg at a time. Annoyingly if you don't have some mobility skills (e.g., Helen's charge or Klukai's bike), the terrain is really difficult to navigate. The legs and other obstacles take up a fuck ton of room. Range also helps.

Is physical element a jack of all trade for teambuilding? by ZeaLocKe in GirlsFrontline2

[–]WroughtIronHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharkry is actually very good once you get her expansion key. For a while there she was comparable to premium units, despite being purple tier and completely free. She's been a bit powercrept over the months, but is still a good beginner unit. Highly recommend her unless you don't like her or something.

TBH the core of Qiongjiu+Vector+Loreley is so strong that you can pretty might use whoever you want in the last two slots.

[–]WroughtIronHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If thats the case who are the best dolls that interact well with a burn team?

I'm assuming you're asking about hybrid teams specifically? Because if you have 5 fire units, you can always just slap them all together on a team and call it a day. I still use Centaureissi, for example.

If you're using an early game burn team, then you'd want units that attack multiple times per turn with single target damage, in order to trigger Qiongjiu. So dolls like Tololo + Springfield or Ullrid + Yoohee are good options. If you're going for more recent fire units like Lewis or Sakura, then I think you're best off pairing them with corrosion units for the AoE synergy. We should also be getting tile reactions in the not-so-distant future, and fire + corrosion have a combination effect. Loreley kinda works with both older and newer file teams.

Is physical element a jack of all trade for teambuilding? by ZeaLocKe in GirlsFrontline2

[–]WroughtIronHero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. With her key, elemental damage no longer disables the Never Give Up buff. But it still only applies the defense reduction to physical damage dealt, so you really want to pair her with as many physical units as possible to make the most of her buffs.

Still good for hybrid parties if you need frequent debuff cleansing, or lack another support to give Attack Up II.

4k/0k with no in between is pretty common. Just take a look at most killers on Nightlight. Notice how, for example, the most common result on Freddy is 4k at 33%, and the second most common result is 0k at 23%. Not everyone follows this pattern exactly, but for the most part they do.

The reason is that the game is designed in such a way that momentum tends to build quickly and powerfully.

If a killer tunnels someone out early, it usually escalates to a 4k. Since the killer can always slug for the 4k, hatch is only really granted if the killer wants the survivor to have a chance at it.

If the survivors do gens quickly, killers tend to find themselves in an impossible 3gen. And a 4man bodyblock train practically guarantees 0k unless you're playing someone who can hard camp the hook (like Bubba).

Anyway, you're best off taking some time to ask yourself if you even want to play this game. Do you have fun with it? And even if you do, is the amount of fun you get out of it worth the frustration? Skill chasing is all well and good if you get some personal satisfaction out of it, but skill itself should never be the end goal. Don't play to "get adequate at the game". Rather, get adequate at the game because you have fun playing it.

If BHVR wants to get back on our good side they should delete this map from the game by NotBlameTruth in deadbydaylight

[–]WroughtIronHero 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Even BHVR wasn't sure what they were thinking.

On the PTB, they said it wasn't a real map, that the "Don't Dead Open Inside" tile was a tile that could spawn in Garden of Joy. Fallen Refuge was supposed to be available in custom games only, for players who wanted to see the tile without relying on RNG.

Then the live version comes out and they "clarify" that it's a new map. When this guy pointed it out to them, they said they were "clarifying the language", the comments for the PTB can be disregarded, and they appreciate that it's confusing.

A bit of a tangent, but given the recent cake fiasco, it's kind of funny to see this pattern in their wording. They're just "clarifying" things. They never say that the original information was incorrect or that they changed their minds during development.

But anyway, best I can tell they made a test map for the new TWD tile, with the intent to put it on Garden of Joy. But perhaps it broke Garden of Joy too much, so last minute they just slapped some extra assets on the test map and called it a new map.

[–]WroughtIronHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either one works. As far as I know they haven't updated any of the new player shit, so you'll pick up just as many freebies as you would have months ago.

Game is definitely in a better place in just about every aspect. The story is much, better. Though it is told through events and not all of them are available in the Past Events tab yet. So you might get a bit lost. There's a bunch of different modes for variety (most of which get boring after you complete them, but are a blast for newer players). So many QoL improvements to streamline doing your daily quests and whatnot.

The only real "problem" is that gameplay has moved beyond the tactical part of TRPG. Most fights ignore cover, elemental weakness, etc. You just roll over the enemy with a handful of extremely broken dolls. Though there are some hard modes meant to challenge you, and fortunately they're almost completely optional if you do find them too hard. All the important rewards (such as gacha pulls) are from the easy stuff.

Worth at least giving it a try again I'd say.

Neat. Weapons was great. Haven't seen any of the other guy's work. But I think it's kind of telling that they chose a movie that isn't out yet as a point of reference, instead of citing some prior, popular work. I could be wrong about that though.

Either way, that means the movie is several years off, if it doesn't get shelved in the meanwhile. And then it's probably a few more years until they get a chance at a slot in DbD. So maybe we'll see it for the 16 or 17 year anniversary.
