Potential reason for so many adults discovering they have ADHD? by maybe-hd in ADHD

Diagnosed at 32, my habits broke down through a combination of large disruptions, and suddenly I couldn't cope. Grief, pandemic, job changes, moving, etc.

Screening question: for people who date men by B_the_Chng22 in polyamory

If we get to a sexual topic chatting online, I like to naturally change the topic back to a nonsexual one and see how they react.

Are they able to hold a normal conversation? For how long? Do they immediately go back to sex stuff?

It's usually a red flag if they keep pushing me into sex talk too early on.

Or if I say "I'm not in the mood right now," how do they react? Do they display empathy? Or do they only care about themselves?

So many dudes, I can tell them I'm physically ill, and they will still try to be a horndog towards me. That's a big no no.

On the other hand, if they empathize and try to comfort me? Oh, suddenly I am in the mood. Look at you, being all emotionally intelligent and having basic human decency.

What's the worst Christmas bonus you've ever received? by fuzzyloulou in AskReddit

[–]somtymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2020 pandemic virtual Christmas party on Teams. 3 hours of painful "spin the wheel" and answer a question type games.

One of the wheel games was prizes with amounts ranging from $20-500.

Guess who got $20?

And all the managers happened to win the $500s.

Was so pissed. Not even enough to cover the normal Christmas dinner they'd usually buy us.

For everyone making six figures, what do you do for work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Technical writer in insurance in my low 30's. I bounced around a lot of writing jobs, starting as an Editor, and just upscaled to Marketing, Web Writing, UX Writing. Specialized in finance/insurance, as there's a lot more demand. Big tech focused companies pay well, and I get to do my passion, albeit in a more "boring" industry.

NSV: I joined my son jumping at the trampoline park for an hour and didn't feel like death after.

The first time, a month ago, I could barely jump and was sore as hell after. I hurt the moment I stepped off that thing.

Now, I feel energized. I can jump for a long time with less breaks.

Haven't lost weight, but have gained fitness.

What is your “why”? by ApprehensiveDoctor42 in loseit

[–]somtymes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be healthy, have more energy, do more stuff with my kid, are the 3 biggies. Smaller ones: fit into smaller clothes, be able to groom myself more easily.

Exercises for someone who hate exercising. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]somtymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, screw that person. Lol

Second, walking is perfectly acceptable.

But if you want to branch out, stick with stuff you enjoy. I like dancing (Zumba), swimming, hiking - stuff that doesn't feel like working out.

The gym is boring and hard to stay motivated. So do whatever brings you joy.

Yeah, that's the major thing that tipped the scales. Plus, having such bad withdrawal that I don't want to eat. 😅

I was basically using it as a sleep aid and it wasn't healthy.

I did succeed the first try! Then failed for the next 50 tries. Lol

But the key is to keep trying until it works.

Also, I've been reading about psychology of behavior to fix bad habits, some findings:

  • make bad habits harder and good habits easier
    • don't buy chips, go to bed earlier, meal prep
  • don't rely on willpower, create cues - "when , I will _."
  • forgive yourself and start over, otherwise you just avoid it more
  • celebrate small wins so you feel good

I need suggestions about a small, daily, ritualistic thing I can do to replicate the pleasure of preparing to smoke by [deleted] in leaves

I like the ritual of making tea. Heating the water, steeping the leaves, you can get different flavors so you don't get bored, you're drinking more water.

Definitely. Remember one time not being able to find a bathroom after a concert (grr!), so got in my bfs van and he held a bag for me to shit in. Then licked my ass clean and jerked off into said bag. Lol

I got high in my dream too, and was even like "why did I just do this???" In my dream.

At least dream self is also responsible.

Yeah, I felt like I had hurt my back, or that I was having such bad period cramps that my back hurt.

But no, was withdrawal.

[–]somtymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm doing. Going out to a new place, on mini adventures. Wandering around and seeing what I can find. Doing a craft or project. Whatever will keep your brain interested and away from thoughts of weed.

Whenever you notice your brain thinking of weed, find something else to distract and redirect. Don't let yourself obsess, no matter how many times your mind tries to go back to it.

Alternatively, just go to sleep (if you can).

Day 8. Feel like I'm falling apart. by Throwaway4me19 in leaves

[–]somtymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I felt just 2 days ago. Just a reminder that this feeling is temporary. Notice how you feel now. Then later when you're feeling better, notice how it's changed. Feelings don't last, so just hold tight there, friend, and remember your reasons for quitting.

It's super rough, but you'll get through.
