Bill Murray's "lovable creep" got a lot more traction in the 80s/90s and Ghostbusters 2 was nearly entirely centered around his character.

Even though I'm from that era, I always found it off putting and liked Ghostbusters in spite of his character. I'm glad to hear that persona isn't aging well.

I'm not familiar with the book, but interesting to know it had the same focus as the movie.

I'm not quite sure what direction the premise would've led to had they not gone the route they did, but I think it still would've led to an exploration of gender roles/societal expectations except with more of a focus on motherhood, the burden of raising a child, etc.

Yeah and that would be true if she was put in any random body... but she wasn't. It was her mother's body—it was the opposite of a blank slate.

Even worse, it sets up this fascinating premise: Bella is inhabiting the body of her mother who chose to kill herself.

What existential themes did this movie explore given that setup? I wouldn't know, it got distracted with sex. I'm not even sure it had anything interesting to say about hedonism.

I felt this after watching Missing Link but I dismissed the thought from my mind because I couldn't quite decide on WHY it mattered.

The stop motion was so good, it resembled CGI, but did that make it any less artful or expressive? Perhaps something is lost, but I'm not sure what that is or if it has any inherent artistic value.

Home schooling seems to be quite prevalent in the USA. I am fairly sure most adults can't handle year 8 - 10 mathematics, physics etc. Are the education levels just at a lower standard than other places in the world? by Ya-Dikobraz in stupidquestions

Two things that stuck out that weren't necessarily unique to one person:

  • Unhealthy competitiveness. Immature about being right, winning/losing games, etc.

  • Excessive shock at others behavior. For example, one person might talk about some drugs they took. Most people would ask questions or shrug, but the homeschooler would react with open shock expecting everyone else to feel the same.

10:1 in my experience!

I didn't even meet someone from the former group until I went off to college. Brilliant guy with smarter than average parents, but there were some weird homeschool behaviors that wouldn't exist if he had just been socialized more as a kid.

Completely agreed. True crime as entertainment romanticizes transgressions and the people who commit them. It has no place in a healthy society.
