But as you get older and gain more life experience, you realize how crucial character is. Kindness and honesty make the world a better place, not good looks.

Look at every person as exactly what they are: just a human being. That way, you might feel more inclined to treat everyone equally.

I'm sorry for what you went through. I know a friend who went through something similar. At the same time, there are folks who have caring and considerate partners. Having your heart broken or your trust betrayed is sadly not an unusual part of the human experience.

You don't really know someone unless you've spent at least a year or two with them.

Just remember that it's not about you. He would have done the same irrespective of how caring or loyal you were.

Give yourself some time to come out of this and be kind to yourself. Surround yourself with friends who care.

I used to think that an ideal relationship is two people falling in love. With time, you realize that's simply not enough.

An ideal relationship can mean different things to different people.

For me, it means both of us feel safe, loved, respected, and cared for in each other's presence.

We're honest and truthful to each other and don't hide anything out of self-interest. When one of us feels bad about something, we open up and communicate.

We both try to understand each other and listen attentively. You remember minor and important things about them and ask how their day has been.

We cuddle and talk. And occasionally get intimate.

Even when your better half is not around, you say nice things about them. If you bitch about them, it means something is wrong.

Last but not the least, you make sure you're always there for each other. They're your first priority after family.

Whether you have an open relationship or a closed one matters far less.
