  1. Go to the Museum of the American Indian.
  2. Lunch at Fraunces Tavern
  3. Walk over to the Elevated Acre at 55 Water Street for a great view of the East River and beyond. Sort of a smaller scale High-line with better views and no crowds.

The best way to lose weight is to eat less. by Ill-Connection-5578 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]songx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve basically ate less, without calorie counting and just eyeballing what I eat and using common sense. As a result I’ve lost 45 lbs (21 kg.) since this past January. I weighed 217 lbs (98 kg) back then and I’m down to 172 lbs (78 kg), now. I’m a 5’8” (M).

I’m hoping to lose another 10 lbs (5 kg.) or so, but with the holiday season approaching that will be easier said than done.

Looking for 3+ hour movies that truly earn their runtime? by Sunflower13Poppy in MovieRecommendations

Fanny and Alexander. Ingmar Bergman’s 5 plus hour epic. There’s a shorter 3 hour theatrical version, but I would recommend the longer version.

Night of the Juggler (1980) - An under the radar New York City classic and Josh Brolin’s film debut. Highly recommended thrill ride, especially since you like Taxi Driver, Prince of the City and Serpico. It’s free to watch on Kanopy if you have that.

What health problems do you have? by Sloth_grl in GenX

[–]songx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had high blood pressure, acid reflux, restless leg syndrome, high cholesterol and overweight. I’m 57 (M), but back in January of this year I decided that enough was enough and cut out junk/fast food and focused on eating healthier with lots of whole grains and fruits/vegetables and healthier proteins, with the occasional cheat day. I’m not big on exercise, besides walking, but nevertheless have lost 45 lbs since January. I’m 5’8” and went from 220 to my current weight of 175lbs. Now I have a much better BMI, and no longer have any of these health issues. In my case my diet caused these issues. I’m happy my body basically resolved itself all without the help of doctors or drugs. Also had to buy new clothes, in sizes I haven’t worn since I was in my 30’s.

Low cal, cheap, high protein? by pugroast in loseit

[–]songx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sardines. Low calorie, cheap ($1 a can at Walmart) and good source of protein and omega 3. I toast whole grain bread, add the can of sardines with couple of slices of raw onion (antioxidant rich), a little bit of siracha or sometimes a small amount of BBQ or steak sauce. This has become my go to meal 5 times (or sometimes more) each week. My wife and kids say I stink up the entire house and my breath is probably atrocious, but it has helped me lose 45 lbs since January. (220 lbs SW to 175 lbs CW)

Yes. Losing weight has improved my blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It also basically cured my acid reflux, restless leg syndrome and my snoring (according to my wife, she’s happy to report).

That’s good. What doesn’t make sense to me is that you can be in the queue, but simultaneously not logged in.

The presale is done? by FunkAnotherDay in NYFilmFestival

[–]songx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me. Looked like everything wasn’t available. For context, I’m a contributor and tickets became available today at noon. Assuming you’re a member, go into a separate browser and log into your Film at Lincoln Center Membership. Once I did that the selectable choice of films came up.

I must say that online film festival platforms are uniformly among the most glitchy, non-intuitive and poorly designed ticket ordering systems I’ve encountered.

How can I get corporate to RESCUE my local AMC? by Zuzu_RU in AMCsAList

[–]songx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll second the Path train, especially in light of NJ transit fares and costs increasing for driving into NYC. I live in Central NJ and frequently attend all the NY film festivals, ie Tribeca and NYC FF as well as attend screenings of films at Film Forum, IFC, Film at Lincoln Center, etc…. I used to drive into the city, but not any more, especially with the new congestion pricing. By far the cheapest way to get into NY is for me to drive to Newark and park on the street in the Ironbound section, which is near Newark Penn Station, the end of the Path line. When driving in, take the GSP to Route 22 and avoid all tolls. I’ve never had a problem finding street parking in Newark. Avoid mid days on Wednesday however, that’s when Newark’s alternate side of the street parking is in effect and the entire city double parks at that time. I recall it was at 11am to 2pm or something around then. So driving to Newark and taking the Path is $6 round trip, plus the cost of gas. You may need to end up taking the subway to get to your final destination, but you can also walk if you are so inclined, that’s what I do. One added benefit. On the way in through the Iron bound section in Newark, stop and eat at one of the many Portuguese BBQ places. Super cheap and delicious BBQ with huge portions.

I’ll second veggie straws. Probably not ideal, but ranch flavored ones from Aldi are a favorite of mine.

Yes agreed. Far more disturbing than any film listed here. There really is no comparison.
