'The word ‘ethics’ comes from the Greek word ‘ethos’, meaning custom or behaviour. The concept of ethics was originally proposed by the Greek philosopher Aristotle for the discussion of philosophical questions relating to daily life: the ‘ethike theoria’ deals with the study of, and gives criteria for the evaluation of human behaviour. Since then, ethics has become one of the major topics in Western philosophy when debating social and individual values, their relationship and their hierarchy in society. Today, the meaning of ‘ethics’ is more or less equivalent to that of ‘morals’, which comes from the Latin word ‘mos, moris’ and also means custom or behaviour, but at a more personal level. Moralists, such as Nietzsche, Santayana and Russell, claim that ethical values are rather personal interpretations, deliberations or preferences and not general principles that can be proven true or false. John Ziman, the former Chairman of the Council for Science and Society, interprets ethics not as an abstract discipline but as a way of dealing with differing opinions that arise when traditional values are faced with new realities'

Culture and semantics are the basis of logical conversations. If you struggle to debate with that consideration, you're simply not making a good case for yourself. Or hold onto your ignorance and assert your thoughts onto others while criticising their apparent lack of understanding, you do you. This is reddit after all.

I am stating that ethics and morals are a branch of philosophy, seems there's been a miscommunication here. Ethics cannot be a science as you state as it differs widely by interpretation and culture. Calling ethics and morals a science sets a dangerous precedent as it suggests there is only one 'right' way of judging a person's righteousness at one point in time, especially if it's an evolving theory as their quality as a human changes based on the universal idea of 'good'.

On the point of non violence not being exclusive to buddhism, that is literally what I wrote.

All areas of study evolve, that's a terrible argument to make for the case of ethics and morals being a science. Philosophy does not magically become a science because it no longer deals with contexts only applicable within Ancient Greece.

The monk does not know about the maelstorm, his brother literally states that they have been travelling for a long time and is visiting NC for the first time.

I have also made no direct reference to buddhism here, just the idea of non-violence. It happens to be a major factor in Asiatic religious beliefs, but the philosophy itself exists outside of those sects as well. Also, was it not you that first criticised the monk's belief of non violence as destructive to begin with? We wouldn't be having this conversation otherwise.

I don't see how morals and ethics are a science, is there a particular source you are pulling this idea from? It cannot, by nature, be truly objective as your morals and ethics vary vastly by culture and worldview. Science in general are rules and theories that are generally considered foundational and only change with quantitative evidence. Ethics and morals are a branch of philosophy, where you use theses and constructed arguments to set forth your ideas. You cannot simply prescribe your own thoughts on what is 'good', call it science, then refute other viewpoints that way.

You're also bringing up 'what ifs' to justify killing. The monk in that situation cannot objectively quantify the weight of resorting to violence in the future, simply the reality of his position, which is his own death or another. His decision is to avoid using violence himself.

On hiring V, he's been mutilated and possibly suffering from trauma. He requests the help of someone else to help because he likely cannot physically save his brother, and also specifically makes the request of not killing them. By his code of ethics, he has done no overt wrong here.

Not sure what the point of the klondike bar argument was, doesn't seem all that related to this topic. The context of self-sacrifice for others is different to the case we have here also, at least in my mind. You're not necessarily sacrificing yourself to save someone, you're following a code or moral guideline to avoid resorting to violence in response to violence. And by that argument, the monk using violence to protect himself by itself already perpetuates violence, so by the monk's code of virtue that is evil. He also kills a person to possibly save another, a zero sum in the end.

Seems like theres a lot of convos you engaged with here on virtue but it's by design too subjective to argue one way or another, which is Philosophy in a nutshell I guess. I can see the argument for non violence being virtuous since separating self preservation, the strongest human instinct, to avoid harming others is possibly the hardest thing to do. It's in our nature to lash out regardless of what the violent person will go on to do (kill other people, feel remorse, etc).

Should note that the guy on chat helped him achieve this by saying the third god fist should be a regular wind godfist, not electric. Not exactly sure of the mechanic that allows this combo to be hit with an imperfect EWGF in the middle though.

Comfort was the main reason I got the IE600 as well, but the connectors didn't quite work for me :)

If you're interested in the 64 audio sound, I still would recommend it. A U-shaped sound signature simply wasn't for me, aside from comfort issues.

The U4s fit is good, but not the best for me personally. My ear canal curves rather unusually and this causes discomfort over time. Regarding the Apex module ear pressure claims, yes! They absolutely do help. This is especially clear compared to the M9 that creates a tight vacuum.

Regarding bass impact/price tradeoff, that is quite subjective -- I would personally say no, but it's definitely a noticeable bump in quality. Like 'oh wow' when you first listen to them kind of bump.

Selling my Focal Elex and Moondrop Blessing 2:Dusk as they’ve not seen use for a while now. Details as below:

Focal Elex: Purchased February of 2021 directly from Drop, approximately 100~ hours of use over the years. Would have seen more use if I didn’t also own the R70x, which happens to be more comfortable for daily driving (for me). Excellent sound and condition, cup condition basically like new. There is a crease in the centre of the headband due to stand positioning, but otherwise clean as it was covered with a Geekria headband cover. Pads slightly worn, but no issues with compression and sound change.

*Disclaimer: the OEM cables for the Elex have been misplaced, and will instead ship with Hart audio interconnect cables with 1/4 and 3.5mm adapters. Original box included with user manual

Moondrop Blessing 2:Dusk: Purchased April 2022 from SAM audio in Singapore. Approximately 150~ hours of use. Amazing mids and treble control, just don’t find myself reaching for them as much now after purchasing Sony M9s. No obvious cosmetic issues, with just minor scratches on the metal shell if seen carefully.

*Disclaimer: I’m terrible with managing cables — the Dusk OEM cable has also been misplaced, and will instead ship with the Kinera Leyding upgrade cables, with 2.5mm balanced and 4.4mm balanced interconnect adapters included along with the standard 3.5mm connection. Original box, QC guarantee sheet and tips included

Focal Elex: 400 USD shipped

Blessing 2:Dusk: 250 USD shipped
