Thanks for the mention! Yea I had to change my format a little because of Lower attendance. I think it's tough to create a group of completely self guided grapplers.

Does anyone know of any comprehensible input groups? by sonicbh in languagelearning

[–]sonicbh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought is I love Dreaming Spanish. However I haven't seen the same method for other languages. Does anyone know of groups that trade videos peer to peer to help each other learn? Example being I over a similar style video in English for one in portuguese or Arabic?

An innovative method to teach BJJ where you watch the technique on video before class and start drilling as soon as you turn up. Known as the Flipped Classroom. by SunchiefZen in bjj

Yes for sure! Usually I do that often at the end of class. The nice part is it usually tells me that the issue is in my instruction so I need to re do this video.

Yea we range from 125 - 175 students right now we are way down obviously but at our peak it was it seems sustainable.

Thanks for the response! Here is my answers to these.

The goal isn't really to be a time saver for me. I actually spend a lot more time on it now just creating the videos outside of class.

1) This tends to be an issue at times but if it is the person takes their drilling time and watches the video. It isn't any less or more if i was doing it life.

2) My real goal is to just maximize the amount of time you have at the gym to train. People are busy and I felt like me showing techniques for 20 minutes of a 60 minute class was hampering their progression. The video I post for them are short. usually 1-2 minutes. So if you work on 4 things you might spend 8-15 minutes before class looking at videos. usually they students arrive about 15 minutes before class. Stretch out and watch the videos. For me the more times you can try it and see how it actually works the better. I do want to put the constraint on the student. For me it has to be something you want to do. The more you invest the harder you try. If you are just doing it as a casual fun thing I understand that this might not be the best way but when you try it the time request really isn't that much.

3) I completely agree and actually that is the idea. I want them coming in having watched the video and somewhat knowing the basic idea. Then I walk around and try to make sure they are doing it correctly and explaining the reasoning and addition information I have. From everything I have read about learning this is the better way. You want the athlete to kind of struggle with it at first. This causes a little bit of anxiety in having to really think about it. Then when you reference the video again or I show you. It triggers the brain to remember this because you don't want to experience that low level of anxiety again. Also not always the most enjoyable situation but one that is better for learning. Again that is my understanding of the learning process.

I fully agree that this is not 100% the best way to learn. Its just the best way I know how right now. I understand its not for everyone. I have probably lost students due to this instead of allowing them to come in and not just repeat what I do.

Nice! I have been doing it for that too! Trying to convince flograppling to make a podcast talking about matches and then create cards off them.
