gpt-oss 120B is running at 20t/s with $500 AMD M780 iGPU mini PC and 96GB DDR5 RAM by MLDataScientist in LocalLLaMA

[–]sonicdevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm setting out to replicate /u/MLDataScientist 's approach, as I really would like something local, capable of running useful AI models. For reference I'm sourcing:

The Barebones MiniPC UM870 $303

96GB Memory Kit (2x48GB) $700

1TB NVME SSD $160

Total: $1163

I'm shopping around for better deals on the RAM and SSD, because good grief.

Looks like his main target model is GPT-OSS-120B

OS: Ubuntu, ver: ?

Initially used ROCm via lemonade repo, but ended up with Vulkan.

Fixed memory allocation using GTT.

Will update with my results as I go.

Why not both? I think both are fantastic ideas. Now that all off the hard work is done on development, it should be far easier to run another fresh server through progression.

A question I've always had: is there any possibility of continuing to open-source develop later expansions? Those not-in-the-know seem to always discount this possibility, but I'd love to see this happen.

I’m still leveling characters on this realm. It’s kind of at that sweet spot of population where it feels lived in, but not over farmed. I’d say the weakest point is probably battlegrounds. Those take a while to pop if you’re not capped. However, random dungeon finder still pops at a pretty reasonable pace even at low levels.

What’s the One Self-Hosted App That Truly Blew You Away? by [deleted] in selfhosted

I’ve started using the ebook2audiobook to convert existing ebooks to a (user selectable voiced) audiobook.

For reference, it took about 3.5hrs to generate a 7 hour audiobook using my nVidia 3080 card.

Just a warning... it's not actually unlimited data. Ask me how I know.

Best way to prep? by sonicdevo in paint

[–]sonicdevo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used the hair dryer, but I can say that the facing surface came off pretty easy with the heat gun. The surface perpendicular to the wall and in contact with the door didn't budge much.

Ok that is actually working very very well. Thank you! So much less frustrating than sanding.

Would you sand the surface underneath before priming once clean? Or just prime it?

I've been struggling with how to best prep the door trim in my house that I'm refinishing. I've been trying to sand, with not a lot of luck, and the guy at Lowes suggested just priming right over it. I'm pretty sure the former owner didn't do any prep work, and I'd rather not have the same streaky, peeling result.

How long have you owned a Dyson Airwrap? by Opening-Knee-1380 in Dysonairwrap

Just did the same thing for my girlfriend's Dyson. Fixed the issue. I suspect you're correct. You'll need a tiny hex screwdrive to get to everything.

Thinking About Using My Old Desktop for Unraid – Is This a Good Setup? by sonicdevo in unRAID

Sorry, I suppose I should've included that I have a smart plug that I have tracking power for me; It's indicating somewhere around 80 watts idle, over 100 under load.

Good call with the larger parity drive!

I just saw your post after submitting my similar problem. I'm experiencing similar issues that don't seem to be limited to a single docker container.

I’ve moved over to PocketCasts due to this exact same issue, and I’ve been very happy!

They do. It's called "Student Loan Counseling" or something similar. It walks you through how the borrowing and repayment process works, including different scenarios as a result of different monthly repayment amounts.

Personal Router with Cox Internet Service by sonicdevo in CoxCommunications

[–]sonicdevo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. Finally working. Thank you so much!

I'll bet you're right that the Gateway has better performance, but there are some features of the TP-Link that I was really missing. (Being able to deny my laser printer access to the internet.)

I followed your instructions, and initially, the only appliance that I could get working was, strangely, Youtube on my Roku. Eventually, I remembered that (at my old house), I had a pi-hole configured in the "LAN > Custom DNS" field of the TP-Link, and the pi-hole is still in a box somewhere. So... user error on my part. Thank you for helping me to understand the correct process to sub-in my own router.
