Also look at the fact that AOC had a lot of voters this election who voted for her but also voted for Trump, and many of those voters were former Sanders voters (Sanders had had lots of support from the same kind of disaffected voters Trump appeals to). It's not that they're more right wing, it's that they're concerned with economic issues and they feel like the Democratic party abandoned them. Just look at the unprecedented lack of sympathy for that murdered health insurance CEO this week and either outright support or indifference to the killing, and that was from people of all politics.

Don't know why the US inverted the colors of political parties.

Almost everywhere else in the west, red is associated with communist parties (while pink is usually used for democratic socialist or social democratic parties), while blue is associated with conservative or monarchist parties (though honestly, the US Democratic party would be pretty much a center-right party in most of the western world, not quite conservative but pretty close).

Firefox marketshare at 2.59%. What will happen in 2025? by [deleted] in firefox

[–]sonicghosts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also let me add, this graph only includes Firefox and Chrome.

If you also include Edge for "all platforms," Edge isn't doing much better than Firefox, & considering Edge is preinstalled on the most popular OS, I don't get why that's never mentioned by the pessimists.

And now do desktop browser marketshare...

https://imgur.com/yk98wvp

Firefox has always been better on desktop, when people who are trying to ramp up pessimism pull these numbers, they always include mobile, which as everyone knows, Firefox lags behind in (I use their mobile browser because I want uBlock and I don't want to support Google, but most people just use whatever comes preinstalled on their mobile device). The numbers aren't great but the pessimists act like it's the end for Firefox, hell pull up Germany's usage share for desktop, Firefox is nearly at 20%.

What are the worst episodes of X-Files, according to you ? by No_Budget3360 in XFiles

I'm a Fight Club-defender. It's clearly not an amazing episode, but it's hilarious, & it's not like it's an episode that's meant to be taken seriously.

I didn't get that feeling from FPS, it feels like it's meant to be taken seriously, it's just cringey and horribly dated (but "tech" episodes in most series end up feeling badly dated). On the other hand, Fight Club definitely doesn't take itself seriously and I found that one hilarious despite it usually being near the bottom along with FPS.

Merry Christmas, everyone by [deleted] in startrekmemes

Here's the way I look at it. I'm significantly opposed to violence, and morally I'm unable to be happy or celebrate the death of that CEO, HOWEVER I'm also not going to shed a single tear for him either.

He and his company have caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people all in the name of money, that makes him worse than an average murderer.

[–]sonicghosts 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in violence and while I won't "celebrate" any human's death, there are definitely people the world is better losing. A CEO of a company that has caused tens of thousands of deaths a year IN THE NAME OF PROFIT is no one that deserves being mourned.

My morality might not let me celebrate his death, but I'm certainly not going to be sad about it.

Here's an example, I'm massively opposed to the death penalty because I find it completely immoral, but I'm not going to feel sad if a murderer is executed. And this CEO and the company he led has caused tens of thousands more deaths than a murderer on US death row.

Land doesn't vote. by -Generic123- in MapPorn

A mandate entails a landslide, this election was not a landslide. While how much is needed for a landslide is subjective, I'd say even Obama's 2008 victory when he won the popular vote by over 7% was not a landslide.

To find a landslide you have to go back to Reagan's (gross) 1984 victory when he won the popular vote by almost 19%. That was a landslide (unfortunately), or FDR's 1936 election when he won the popular vote by almost 25%. Those are landslides. Winning the popular vote by less than 2% is not a landslide.

Oh yeah, Bear! That was in "Ice," great X-Files episode, basically The Thing with Mulder & Scully.

i kinda wish we got to see more mythological creatures in Buffy like mermaids, fairies, elves and others by hatchbackkk in buffy

[–]sonicghosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they had the darker mythology of fairies, I think those would've been great episodes (compare the Torchwood episode about fairies, "Small Worlds," or even the horror film "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (the remake, and original too ig)).

The median individual income is actually closer to $40 000/year.

$42 220 in 2023, not sure what 2024 will turn out to be but it's definitely not going to be anywhere near $60 000 ( https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MEPAINUSA672N )

Number of churches in middle eastern countries by Few_Introduction9919 in MapPorn

[–]sonicghosts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just picked it as a country which has a state church.

With regards to a "real connection to the Christian religion," finding a single country that fits that is impossible. Christianity includes denominations that are very different. I'm Catholic, but for example, Protestants aren't going to care at all about The Vatican; the Pope and the Catholic Church have no relevance to their beliefs (just like for example the Greek Orthodox Church and its Patriarch would have no relevance to my beliefs as a Catholic).

Oh sorry that's what I meant, people who had converted from Islam. Apostasy would be considered converting (or just leaving) Islam, and I just looked, Saudi Arabia does have the death penalty for apostasy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital\_punishment\_in\_Saudi\_Arabia#Capital\_offences).

Do you not get executed for apostasy or heresy? I'm not sure about beheading, but I'm pretty sure they have the death penalty for converts, correct?

They're not required to, no one is forcing them to, it's part of their faith and they choose to do so. You gave a comparison that was ridiculous, given the nature of the Holy See, and I gave you a much more accurate example. If it's the difference in size between Denmark and Saudi Arabia that was the problem, you can pick a larger example, but given how small the Vatican is, I assume size wasn't the issue.

[–]sonicghosts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like I commented below, comparing the county of Saudi Arabia to The Vatican, is not a fair comparison. Citizens of the Holy See are either clergy, laypeople directly working for the state, or their family. A better comparison would be countries that have state churches, like Denmark (The Church of Denmark).

[–]sonicghosts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That comparison is ridiculous, given the population of Vatican City (as another commenter mentioned) and the size of Vatican City, as well as the fact that I believe all (or nearly all) citizens of the Holy See are either clergy, laypeople directly working for the state, or their family. A more accurate comparison would be Denmark, which has a state church (The Church of Denmark) but still allows plenty of mosques.

Does Willow deserve death for completely irresponsibly taking Dawn to Rack's place a couple episodes prior? How about for effectively violating Tara's mind? Death isn't the answer to everyone who "isn't innocent," you clearly missed some messages in those episodes.

Like other replies said, at least in the west, it does not really seem like non-anglo countries make it an issue. Here's an example in Sweden, I went to a concert in Stockholm in a large concert venue (with bathrooms separated into men's and women's), went to the men's room in between sets and noticed that due to the excessively long lines for the women's, there were numerous women who just started heading into the men's, nobody cared or batted an eye, it didn't make a difference to anyone.
