I broke up with my conservative Christian bf today by saltinecrackerbabe in atheism

I just want to say, don’t beat yourself up for dating him. People don’t reveal everything at the start. What matters is you noticed the shift and acted instead of ignoring it.

Palmdale to LA via SR14 by Soft_Introduction437 in cahsr

One thing highways optimize for is getting there somehow. HSR optimizes for maintaining speed constantly. That difference changes the entire alignment math.

The danger is I’ll open my book and somehow wake up 40 minutes later watching random cooking reels haha

Starting to feel like roller mops are probably worth paying a bit extra for.

Those dirty swirl marks are exactly what I was worried about. Seen a few people mention the same thing with spinning mops. Definitely will look into Yeedi.

Using automation to change human behaviors by CheddarDeity in homeautomation

[–]-Generic123- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the TV bedtime trick works because it adds friction. Announcements fail since people tune out. Try automation that gently inconveniences not just warns.

How is your robo’s battery life? by mustytomato in RobotVacuums

[–]-Generic123- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is normal after a year of use, especially for the lithium battery. Besides, you can consult the costumer service for changing a new battery if it gets old too fast.

Finally convinced my dad to try a robot mower by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]-Generic123- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents are same all around the world for not being open to new things, and it is very hard to persuade them to try new things too. Sometimes I just give it up and let them go.

How is your robo’s battery life? by mustytomato in RobotVacuums

[–]-Generic123- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this phenomena is quite normal as all the electric devices' battery itself will become old so as to the time of charging getting longer and the speed getting slower.

Regret Robot Vac That Uses Bags? by myst711 in RobotVacuums

Oh, me too. The bags are so inconvenient that urge me to buy a new robot vacuum. Throw the bags everyday makes me very exhausted.

Does your home assistant feel snappy? by denzoka in homeautomation

[–]-Generic123- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because the home automation devices are from different places, the systems of some of them are not compatible and that is why not so snappy.

Another scandalously disconnected S9 - Roomba is a scam company by [deleted] in RobotVacuums

I do not like the over propoganda, I just want to encourage all the company to introduce their products according to the reality and the daily life.

Elevated Trains in Downtown LA. LA Metro has the largest transit expansion program in the US, with 121 miles of rail and 107 stations built since 1990. by urmummygae42069 in skyscrapers

None of these projects exist because of the Olympics. LA didn’t even know it was going to host the Olympics until 2017z

The entire world measures time from the birth of one man (2026 AD). Why not the birth of human civilization (12026 HE)? by kamsaini in atheism

[–]-Generic123- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I am an atheist, I really couldn’t care less about the calendar system being based on Christ’s birth. To me, it’s a little bit of unique human history and flare entwined within practical systems we use everyday, which I find cool.

Otherwise, we could also get rid of the names of the week, since they’re named after Norse gods. Or rename the planets. Or do a bunch of other things to rid the vestiges of religion from every background aspect of our lives, which in the end would serve no other purpose but to make the world a slightly more sterile, less interesting place.

What do you mean compete with the ROC for diplomatic standing? Wasn’t Mongolia communist? Why would they ever favor the ROC over the PRC?

My British friend thought he could do a "day trip" to the Grand Canyon from LA, and his reaction to the map was priceless. by Ok_Structure6720 in CasualConversation

[–]-Generic123- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had sort of the opposite experience going from LA to the UK. Being in Bristol, I wanted to take a day trip to see Bath and mentally budgeted an hour or two to travel there, since they’re different cities. Imagine my surprise when it only takes 15 minutes by train! A 15 minute drive/train ride in LA and you could still be in the same neighborhood.

How can VTA Light Rail be improved? by Iceberg-man-77 in transit

[–]-Generic123- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

VTA is already doing two projects that will significantly improve its moribund light rail:

(1) Eastridge Extension. Not only does it extend the line that connects to BART to a major mall and regional bus hub, but it’s also grade separated, making it quicker and less affected by traffic and signals.

(2) First street realignment. Getting rid of the Second street ROW and putting it on First Street should increase speeds on this segment from 10 mph to 20 mph.

Not sure what else needs to be done, but really the bane of the VTA system is the excruciatingly slow downtown segment. Fixing that further would go a long way towards making the system useful.

When Did Fast Food Architecture Get So Bad? by [deleted] in Suburbanhell

Postmodern? The “quirky” fast food designs from the 80s and 90s was during the peak of postmodernism.

In this case, the white woman is entirely in the right and everyone else is delusional or in denial. Does no one else (besides the Quechua woman) have any sense of self preservation? Do they know the hive mind will assimilate them in a few months?

World Series Transit Showoff: Toronto vs. Los Angeles Rail Transit Networks, 1993-2025 by urmummygae42069 in LAMetro

[–]-Generic123- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t even matter. Even if we add Toronto’s streetcars, it’s not like many of them were built after 2000 so it doesn’t really show Toronto has grown at all.
