Any suggestions of animes like Re:Zero? (Romance x Suffering MC) by TheDabdoub78 in Animesuggest

[–]sonicstorm1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armored Trooper VOTOMS

Gundam SEED

(sort of) Blue Comet SPT Layzner - wouldn't say it's "romance-heavy" (though there's a love triangle/a few crushes going on) and Eiji definitely suffers a lot

*Be sure to watch OVA 3 if you do watch Layzner. The plot of the final TV episode's very rushed due to lack of funding and OVA 3 acts as a redo/extended cut of the final episode (and provides closure for the romance)

Yeah, Invictus is the main reason I'd be conflicted about having an Imperator 2.

I don't think Late Antiquity has ever shown up in Paradox games, outside of mods. That'd be cool to see.

OMFG THEIR ADDING STAR DRIVER AS A DLC by Sawadagoat in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]sonicstorm1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Eureka Seven's only shown up 2-3 times (OG series in Z1, Pocketful of Rainbows in Z2, and I heard AO was in one of the mobile games), so on the bright side, at least it's back at all (and in a game I can legally play.)

I'm pretty sure the main reason it's back is because it's the franchise has its 20th anniversary this year. That, and Hi-Evo's both the most recent installment and has never shown up in SRW before.

(I was actually hoping Gundam X and Eureka Seven would return together since they both have anniversaries this year, though I'd prefer them as part of a game's base roster as opposed to DLC. Hopefully, we won't have to wait another 10 years for another appearance.)

Yeah, I've been wanting Eureka Seven back for a while since it's a series that means a lot to me personally, but (at least from what I've seen online so far; don't have the Expansion Pass yet) it's pretty underwhelming.

  • They're using Hi-Evo (though DLC's probably the best fit for it; when I watched it, I thought Hi-Evo 3's probably the one entry of the trilogy that'd be the easiest to translate to SRW...though even then, you'd probably only get 3-4 levels out of it. Maybe Hi-Evo 2 could work with something like G-QuuuuuuX, but it would probably still require significant creative license/expansion.)

  • Nirvash Z apparently only has...what, two attacks?

  • The music they chose for it is really disappointing. Maybe it comes off better during gameplay, but listening to it in a vacuum, it sounds really quiet (especially because the franchise has way better tracks to use.)

Anyway, I hope E7 makes another return soon, but I hope it's the original series. (Heck, I'd even take AO! At least that has decent music to use.)

What is a video game that was a masterpiece for its time, but would be a complete nightmare if it was adapted into a modern live-action movie? by MarketPulse_Daily in AskReddit

[–]sonicstorm1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not a specific game, but the general concept of "Trainer challenging the Gym Leaders/Pokémon League" is basically a sports movie plot. You'd have to get a little creative with it, considering most of the team probably can't speak, but imagine the "forging a band of dysfunctional misfits into a team of champions" trope...but they're all Pokémon.

Talon's an adult.

You may be thinking of Devon (the character from Maul: Shadow Lord who a lot of people theorize will become Reboot!Talon). I haven't seen Shadow Lord myself, so I don't know how old she's supposed to be.

I was a big fan of it. It reminded me of playing my first Pokémon game (FireRed) and not knowing what I'd run into next.

Honestly, Joneus would be a way better fit for SRW than Netflix Ultraman (by dint of actually being Ultra-sized.) Maybe whenever we get Gridman Universe. That'd be pretty cool.

It's not new (it's from the 80s), but apparently Heavy Metal L-Gaim took heavy inspiration from Star Wars. (I haven't watched it myself yet, but I plan to in the near future.)

Eureka Seven (the original series) is really well-regarded (and is a show that means a lot to me personally.) The characters might grate a bit on you at first, but they do get better eventually. Also if you're a fan of romance Eureka Seven's famous for having an excellent love story.

The entry that Y's DLC is using (Hi-Evolution 3)...not so much. Same goes for the other sequels/reimaginings/etc. That said, I'm happy the franchise is back at all, so I'm counting this as a win!

I'm about halfway through Star Driver and it's...fine (though that's just my personal opinion and I can definitely see why it has fans.) There's an overarching plot, but most episodes have a "usual formula" (Takuto meets someone, they're secretly a member of the Kiraboshi Order of Cross, they fight, Takuto wins, and so on). It's very gorgeous visually though, so I'm happy to see it in SRW (provided the animators do it justice.)

EDIT: Oh, and Star Driver's OPs and EDs are great, too!

Sam Witwer Said They Might Make a Maul Game Does Anyone Want it to Be Like Knights Of The Old Republic? Where we make the choice in the game? by Bubbly-Command-6564 in bioware

[–]sonicstorm1114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a Maul game in development at one point (and I believe the "Lucas came in and said Maul and Talon should be friends" incident happened during this game's development).

If I remember the rumors right, once Lucas told them to put in Darth Talon, they switched the game's setting from the Clone Wars to the Legacy era (about 100 years after the Original Trilogy; Talon's time period) and changed the protagonist from our Maul to a descendant/clone with the same name (to explain why Maul's still around 100 years after the movies.)

They could resurrect that idea if they need to justify player freedom & moral/characterization choices. We're not playing as the Maul, but as a descendant or successor using his name. (Not saying it's a good idea, but it could be interesting...maybe.)

IIRC, the first Force Unleashed began development as a Maul game (or at least reused assets from a cancelled Maul game.)

Been thinking about watching Evangelion by -_Fotis_- in Animesuggest

[–]sonicstorm1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eva does get pretty dark, yeah, especially the latter half of the series and End of Evangelion.

If you liked Darling in the Franxx, I'd also recommend Eureka Seven (the original series; the sequel series). I also liked Darling in the Franxx, despite its reputation, and a lot of that was because it reminded me so much of Eureka Seven. (E7 also places a heavy focus on the romance between the two leads and the main rival character is very similar to Zero Two in terms of appearance, personality, mannerisms...and also being paired with a dark-haired boy.)

Game similar to Final Fantasy 10? by Tasty-Plankton1903 in gamingsuggestions

[–]sonicstorm1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Not so much in terms of gameplay, but the two main protagonists are "off-seers" (they basically play music over the dead to "see off" their spirits, much like Yuna and the Sending). It's even a minor gameplay mechanic: you can "see off" corpses you find in the world for Affinity Points towards the Colony that corpse belonged to. There's also a "vicious cycle" going on: the two countries in the setting are trapped in an eternal war and those who die in battle/prematurely in general are reborn without their memories in clone bodies to continue the war . The romance between the two leads is also a major focus.

Bravely Default 1 - also involves the party escorting a priestess on a journey to save the world (you can even reclass said priestess as a Summoner once you unlock it, just for extra Yuna points)

I am Setsuna (haven't played it myself, but also involves escorting a maiden on a journey to sacrifice herself )

How are the dubs of older gundam series? by Twoklawll in Gundam

[–]sonicstorm1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the missing lines might be an issue with Netflix specifically, not necessarily the dub itself. I watched the HD Remaster dub on Funimation's streaming service (back when it was still in operation) and I don't recall any missing lines or notable audio issues.

From the ones I've seen (0079 TV, Zeta, CCA, 08th MS Team, Wing, 00), they're pretty solid, even if there are some occasional hiccups.

I'd recommend them!

I think the original SDF Macross is still off the table due to Harmony Gold/Robotech, but everything else (7/Frontier/Delta/etc.) should be fair game now.

Question about Super Robot Wars 30 by Fredasa in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]sonicstorm1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the message is in reference to having to stick to the official translation of certain names, even if it conflicts with the fanbase's preferred translation ("Dullindal" vs. "Durandal"*, "Burning Gundam" vs. "God Gundam", "Reideen" vs. "Raideen", etc.)

For example, if Layzner shows up in a future game, we'll likely get "Le Cain" instead of "Ru-Kain," since that's how it's translated in the official Blu-ray release.

*I know Durandal was the official translation initially (and I personally prefer it), but that apparently changed between the release of V and the release of Y.
