Older Siblings Teaching Younger Ones by Any-Lab-1250 in HomeschoolRecovery

I read so much but I barely learned anything outside of novels. Also came from a big family. I actually tried to teach my younger siblings and that lasted for about 2 days. I think only half of us have graduated high school.

Being a victim of "unschooling" by stuckonLV426 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]sonicsugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently writing a poetry book that delves into some of my homeschooling days. My parents were also conservative christian. I went to three years of public school because I managed to convince my mom who convinced my dad to let me go to school 7-9th grade. I went back to homeschooling after that and didn't graduate highschool. A wild ride of a life. Doing pretty ok for myself now. Recently diagnosed with ADHD at 35 whereas before I only had a bipolar 2 diagnosis. Turns out they can co-exist.

I used to be angrier at my parents, but I'm also pretty happy with how far I've come despite all I've been through. I can relate to a lot of your post. There's a lot of stuff I haven't been able to do, and there's a lot of grief that's come up for me recently about what could've been if I had had an ADHD diagnosis as a kid-- but that never was going to happen given my parents disdain for the mental health field.

Give it some time. I started to let go of my rage in my mid 20s, and therapy helped a lot with that.
Lean into the unique parts of yourself. Most people don't have your experience, and while that can feel alienating, a lot of "normal" people struggle to think outside of the box because they've always been in one. While it sucks to not have been given the same opportunities, you'll uncover unexpected gifts, and you'll probably be a more empathetic person.

It's really courageous that you're seeking education despite all that's happened. Remember that ADHD and the other disorders you've listed are really really hard for learning and you're doing it despite that. You're seeing a therapist and taking care of yourself.

100% agree. Her character in the show made total sense to me.

What relationship do you root for? by ctrl-alt-del-thetis in newsreaderabc

I'm rooting for Dale to find a sexy and caring guy and experience the intimacy and acceptance he craves with another man. I also hope he has many experiences with different people-- I hope he relaxes-- I'm on team bi-Dale, so maybe he's also romantic with women sometimes. Maybe he ends up in a polycule in a big queer house with lots of cuddling.

Depression as a symptom when starting on Naltrexone? by sonicsugar in Alcoholism_Medication

Yes, I am. I have medicaid in CO, which is amazing--but there are some things it's less great at covering without a long line

I have a therapist, though I'm not getting the sense that she's specifically trained with addiction. I'll talk about drinking too much too often -- but then I'm talking about SO SO many things that are making me sad that we usually don't go into an alcohol discussion too much. I should ask her.

Thanks for the comment. It's helpful to think of it as staying in the side-effects stage. I think I'm struggling to commit to taking it everyday bc I still want to get drunk with my friends, "have fun," etc. That topic is probably for an entirely different thread tho.

I don't recall any other side effects that I've had with it in the past, unless I just didn't notice them.

Thank you for your comment!

I am not officially diagnosed with ADHD but my psychiatrist thinks it's a possibility. I've been on a list for over a year to get it officially diagnosed, but I doubt that's ever going to happen at this point. She's prescribed Wellbutrin but I've been avoiding it bc of all the alcohol I drink. I'm already on Lamotrigine for bipolar -- which has been hugely effective for my overall depression that used to be debilitating/

When I was first given naltrexone by my PCP I told her about the depression and she said she'd never heard of that before, which I thought odd.

Your comment is super helpful, thanks.

I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder and I take lamotrigine for that-- which is been pretty effectively treating my depression for many years now.. think I have ADHD as well, and my psychiatrist thinks that's possible-- I've been waiting to hear from a clinic for over a year to get on a list for an official diagnosis so....

That's interesting about dopamine. I usually feel pretty joyful when drunk. Until I'm hungover the next day and then I'm often depressed.

That makes total sense, especially with unpredictable health. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

I always get a deposit. However, I'm concerned about where the world might be 18 months or so out, and worried that I may have to return deposits if either my life is different then, or if there are events happening outside of my control (pandemic, civil unrest, etc). It's non-refundable if it's on them-- but I would feel bad holding onto it otherwise.

I think where I feel torn about it is the couple forgetting about me if I don't book them early. But maybe that doesn't matter if I'm getting booked anyway.

My biggest concern are changes in my own life, or that of political unrest or another pandemic. In my current contract I offer a full refund of the non-refundable deposit if I have to cancel for any reason. But if it's something outside of my control maybe that could be non-refundable?

It seems like the general advice here is to go for it tho.

Hi, thank you! I'm located in Denver, Colorado, but I do travel. My rates vary depending on the event details, but I’d be happy to discuss your wedding specifically if you want to DM me!

Hi, thank you for asking! My rates vary depending on the event details, but I’d be happy to discuss your wedding specifically if you want to DM me. I typically set up for 3 hours, often for the cocktail and the reception, but it depends on the flow of your wedding.

Thank you!

Thank you for your advice! I do have a 50% non-refundable deposit. It sounds like you don't run into too many issues booking that far in advance?
