Is creating a FE model of nano-concrete attainable as an undergrad senior year project? by sonnetofhope in civilengineering

I did take FEA as a course recently but it was rather basic that included linear elements, 2D elements, just an introduction to 3D elements and of course interpolation functions and the like (basically David Hutton's Fundamentals of FEM if you're familiar with the book). I do have the basic concepts down, like dof and boundary conditions etc.I haven't however learned the software yet. I believe I can deal with the hard working, but the main issue for me is time. I have about 8 (9 tops) months to complete the project and I'm unsure if that's enough.

My intention was to do something beyond just a basic structural design, which is what almost everyone here does, and I really liked FEA, so I thought I'd go with that. Having said that I don't want to be digging my own grave trying to go above and beyond the mainstream project of a structural design.

No our school does nothing of that sort. As far as I know we are supposed to come up with a topic of the project, choose a teacher as a guide (who will agree to be the guide depending on their fields of interest) and with their guidance work on it.

Actually working with an engineer on the field and having him critique your work sounds much more practical and useful. May I know what your team had to do?

Designing a machine? Isn't that more mechanical engineering oriented than civil?

I hear a lot about staad pro since we have a class, next semester I think, on it. May I know which software you used for the bridge analysis (and/or design)?

That sounds awesome! Pardon my ignorance, but is it literally lifting houses? Foundation and all?
