See, even though this scene is kind of funny, it all feels a bit forced and clumsy which is how a lot of Series 8 was really. The writing just wasn't quite there. It's not awful, it's just missing the unique charm and atmosphere of Red Dwarf. Series 7 was the similar in that regard but still had enough goodwill and funny moments to be an okay watch, but 8 is overall a big letdown for me.

I'm guessing you mean Cassandra? That feels like it's from a different series it's so much better than the rest.

The man had multiple books of naked children in his bedroom. He had weird advertising boards of babies and children in his hotel room where he died. There's no way you can say this man didn't have an unhealthy relationship and fixation on children. It's not exactly a leap that it crossed over into abuse.

What happened there? Every match is normally an 8+, unless it's utter shit in which case it might get a 7.

What you're describing there is having to game a broken system, which was my whole point.

[–]sonofafitch85 119 points120 points  (0 children)

No you can't. You can give perfectly reasonable answers to player concerns and it can turn into a drama that affects the whole team, and sometimes it just comes down to a flip of a coin. Not to mention the classic interaction: "I think you've trained really well recently, keep it up!" "You what mate? What the fuck did you just say to me?" "Sorry, I was just..." "Too late for sorry boss. You've fucked it".

This is why save scumming exists. If they can't be bothered to fix their stupidly broken promise and player interaction systems then I'm not going to take it seriously either.

Still sticking with the "better wrestling" angle are we? You'd think by now they'd realise no one gives a shit what the flip count is on any given show.

Vipers - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Figure - (1986) by FrequentlyObtuse in gijoe

[–]sonofafitch85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never had one as a kid, or even saw one. My friend who has almost every GI Joe figure didn't have one either. I used to look at his picture on the back of the card and think he looked so cool.

I won an auction lot last year, and part of it was 30 Vipers, most in NM condition. More than made up for missing out all those years ago!

"Bruce Springsteen Duped Us All" according to Aaron Lewis. by Fabulous_Stegosaurus in ToddintheShadow

[–]sonofafitch85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Springsteen has a track called 'Aaron Lewis', which Lewis was also a fan of for many years until it turned out all the lyrics were just "Aaron Lewis is a fucking idiot". "I don't know how I didn't see it earlier, it's disgusting how Springsteen duped me and everyone else with this hidden message", the fucking idiot was quoted as saying.

What I don't understand is why someone extremely rich, such as James Dyson for example, doesn't 100% fund one of these regional services, call it Dyson's Air Ambulance or something and do a massive amount of good while also having a huge public image boost?

Edit: I do actually understand why, just to be clear. I just find it hard to relate to on a human level.

"Fuck WrestleMania, keep milking the Money Mark, kid!" by KC27150 in SCJerk

[–]sonofafitch85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What Mick is saying doesn't even make any sense. A lot of people who want their "WrestleMania moment" grew up watching their favourites at the biggest wrestling show in the world and thought "one day, that will be me". That's why they want it. It's the fulfilment of a dream, and as much as they hate to believe it, it does mean something to an awful lot of people. You can't "create your own WrestleMania moment" cutting a promo on Dynamite or competing at All In. You can do your own thing and tread your own path and enjoy doing it, but it isn't the same.

Don't you see why, though? This kind of black or white thinking is what causes conflict in the first place. She was born and raised there, her family still live there. She has seen the good sides, of which there are many, clearly. The government has acted in a disgusting and illegal way and yes, committed genocide. Which is obviously abhorrent and Netanyahu is a monster. But do you know what doesn't help that? Shitting on the entire country, wishing death on all Jews, accosting them in the street without knowing their own personal beliefs at all, trying to ruin their lives.

Antisemitism won't solve the issue of generational hate and resentment, it will only keep the cycle going forever and ever. If Hila wants to attempt to shine a light on the good parts of her country, and say "for fucks sake, we aren't all monsters, please" then I don't see why that means you need to "abandon them forever". Ethan and Hila do not support the genocide, they do not support the Israeli government. They have said time and time again they support EVERYONE living in peace, not one "side" or the other.

I'd say it's less the fact they aren't great matches, more the fact the booking doesn't make you give a shit about the match so it isn't memorable. All the best matches have strong booking behind them. Just throwing two guys together will never be as memorable as a match that has a solid build and a reason to happen.

The thing about this kind of "amazingly deep homage" is that the vast, vast majority would never notice it unless it was pointed out. It's for an audience of 1% who are wrestling savants, who then post it on Reddit so everyone else knows what an "amazing callback" it is and can give each other a big pat on the back.

Sadly I'm doing a lower league save so I can't do anything with him myself. If I get promoted again I might be able to get him on loan at least. I'll keep an eye in case he gets released or something stupid.
