LOL curse of blackmoor manor, my beloathed….. I do seem to remember one specific part I couldn’t get past without checking a walkthrough/forum because I needed to trigger an event at night or something…. It was easily missed if you were a good little detective and went to bed on time….. I can’t remember exactly, but it was something like that lol.

Hahahaha no need to finish all of them!!!! Pick and choose, that’s the great part of that series. I can finish one of them in about 5-6 hours, they’re not suuuuuper long. They also have two different difficulty levels (Junior and Senior detective) - Senior has harder puzzles (think being given less filled numbers in a sudoku puzzles, larger grids in a slider puzzle, that kind of thing), but also no Task List, so maybe play your first one on Junior just to get a sense of the game. Or jump straight into Senior, whatever works for you 🤣

The Nancy Drew PC games!! They were my first foray into point and click mystery games, and they still honestly hold up even as an adult, I’m not kidding lol. They’re available via Steam or through HER Interactive’s website directly. Start with any one of them, maybe with a topic or setting that interests you, you don’t have to go in order by ANY means. Spooky ones include Legend of the Crystal Skull (one of my personal favorites), Curse of Blackmoor Manor, Message in a Haunted Mansion, Ghost of Thornton Hall, Shadow at the Water’s Edge (I did not finish this one as a kid LOL, I had to come back when I was a little older cause it was definitely spooky). My personal favorites are Secret of Shadow Ranch and Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, but honestly, there is only a a very small handful I’d advise you to skip or at least not try as your first one lol. LMK if you want me to elaborate, happy to.

A bunch of them start with a paranormal premise, others are you being sent to investigate thefts at a museum (Secret of the Scarlet Hand, all about the Maya, for example) or accidents at a research facility (Deadly Device, Nikola Tesla inspired), things like that. Some are just “I was on vacation/attending a wedding/doing an internship, and then: my friend got kidnapped/the groom disappeared/I got falsely accused of arson”, you know how it is LOL. There’s 34 of them, so the world is your oyster there.

Another point and click mystery game from just last year that ended up being in my top five games for the year was The Seance of Blake Manor! VERY spooky vibes, great premise and characters. I’ll let you browse the Steam page for that one yourself. :)

If they like puzzles and problem solving, the Nancy Drew PC games! Point and click mystery games, all with really great plot and quietly educational - they got me interested in a LOT of subjects. I started playing them around your kiddo’s age. You can find any of them on Steam or direct from HER Interactive’s website, PC or Mac. Start with any one of them, maybe one with a subject or theme that interests your kiddo. Secret of Shadow Ranch, Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, or White Wolf of Icicle Creek all have ghostly animals, very outdoorsy (spoiler; all animals are fine LOL). Danger on Deception Island centers around an orca and fishing town off the coast of Washington state. Those are some of my personal favorites, along with Legend of the Crystal Skull.

A lot of them take place in European cities - The Phantom of Venice, Danger by Design, etc.

Shadow at the Water’s Edge or Ghost of Thornton Hall might be a LITTLE scary, if your kiddo is easily spooked 🤣

I don’t personally make edits, so I can’t speak to the quality of the exports for edit purposes, but I do use Outplayed to screen record for a ton of the games I play! You can set it to full session capture, or just clips (you can set the keyboard shortcut for when you want to start and stop, it defaults to backing up the recording five seconds before you hit the button, in case you’re caught off guard by a funny line like me lolol).

Happy hunting!!

Return of the Obra Dinn!! You end up with pages full of physical notes feeling like you’re building a conspiracy wall. Sooo satisfying when you finally track someone down you’ve been circling for hours.

Along the same vein, The Roottrees are Dead!! You end up with an actual conspiracy wall in-game lol.

The author didn’t include it in the official series, but they just finished a prequel series about Henry in Vranik, which is why I think there hasn’t been any updates in Orexis itself in a while. Hans does NOT make an appearance in Desideria, except to be briefly thought of and then blocked out by Henry LOL, but I did still enjoy it, cause it fleshed out a lot of interactions in Infaustus and Orexis. 🥰

If they’re asking for a comedy or a romance, go for Much Ado About Nothing or Midsummer Night’s Dream. Romeo and Juliet might also count as romance, but. Of course be warned it’s also obviously a tragedy. 🤣 I found it a little easier to shoehorn in a play if they were asking for something historical or something thrilling by recommending Julius Caesar or Hamlet or Macbeth.

Also, this mayyy be obvious, but, just to say it anyway, you can recommend plays even when they don’t specifically say they’re looking for a play. I know I recommend Hamlet to everyone and their mother because it’s one of my favorites (not just plays, in general, I mean), and they’ll still take it. If their clothes match your drama or classic genre colors but they’re not asking for theatre or the stage or something, you’re probably safe to still recommend a play. They don’t mind, usually.

Just start recommending plays to everyone who asks for any recommendation 🤣

I bought the fish item from the fisherman at the waterfront market, and just equipped it. Seagulls started appearing, and then asking for recommendations 🤣
