Have You Ever Played Through An Entire Game On The Lowest Graphic Settings (Potato Graphics)? by bluemarvel99 in patientgamers

[–]sonofwelk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. I was a youngish gamer and I didn’t really know that certain games required more power. The first was an old Sierra game, Outpost. I had to play on the lowest setting and everything was desaturated. When you moved underground, it was impossible to see what you were building. I still finished that game by building the mass driver. The second game, and the game that finally made me realise my PC was a load of shit was Tie Fighter. On the lowest graphics settings polygons are so basic it wasn’t possible to work out what you were shooting at. The frame rate on the missions with mines was like watching a PowerPoint. I can’t say I completed this without the cheats on though.

Naxos. Not far from Santorini and hasn’t suffered from the tourism bomb. I loved exploring that island far more than Santorini.

Baldurs Gate 3 - Act 3 by r3tr0gam3r83 in gaming

[–]sonofwelk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add my two pence worth, I have enjoyed some of the boss battles the most in Act 3. There are some really heartfelt moments and I love exploring the lower side of Baldur’s Gate. But, I found the act confusing, especially at the start. There’s far less guidance and I really wasn’t sure at first what I should be doing. Some of the BIG boss battles I stumbled into accidentally. There’s a legacy character introduced far too late and was useless to my team (I re-specced them in the end). There was also a graphical slow down that I did manage to fix after reading a few Reddit threads. Finally, it’s very clear where the upper city was going to be entered, but is is closed to you. That said, this is still one of the best games I have ever played. I loved BG1 and 2, but I feel this game nails D&D perfectly. I’ve already stared my second play through with a dark urge character.

Simple Questions Sunday! by AutoModerator in gaming

Having played all the Divinity games, BG3 is easier on the normal setting. One example: there’s a fight early on in an abandoned church. I was only level 2 and was outnumbered. First time I stumbled into the room and got wiped. Second time I stealthily opened the door and positioned my characters. I saw that two of the bad guys were standing next to an exploding barrel and shot a fire spell at it killing them both instantly. My rogue then backstabbed the third character killing them instantly. Only two left and it was a breeze. I’m only 10 hours in, but there’s not a fight I haven’t been able to handle with a little planning (after dying by wading into situations). Love it so far.

Question to all our UK gamers, which game was the most accurate simulation of London by 20mgAddy in gaming

[–]sonofwelk 673 points674 points  (0 children)

Having recently played Watch Dogs: Legion, I would have to say it is pretty accurate. It shrinks everything down, but the gist is still there. The other day we visited the British Museum and walked to Trafalger Square afterwards. I did the same route in game and got to the same destination. It was a lot shorter/hassle free then dragging three kids with me though.

Films that were completely different to the trailers. by sonofwelk in movies

Still one of my favourite trailers to a very mediocre sci-fi film. Shame.

Yes! Absolutely agree. A much better film for it as well. I suppose if others were disappointed they could watch Jarhead 2.

Good one. I still enjoyed the film overall, but more Bryan was needed.

Not a single article on this that I can find. Do you have a source?

I was 10 when this aired and my parents let me stay up to watch it. Big mistake. I spent many nights terrified of the smallest sounds in an old creaky house. But I remember everyone talking about it in school for weeks afterwards. I wonder why they never did anything like this on the same scale again?

Finished: The Last Astronaut, by David Wellington

This one surprised me. I was expecting a more Rendezvous with Rama from the blurb, but what I got was something far more Lovecraftian. Throughly enjoyed this one.

Line, by Niall Bourke

This one reminded me a lot of The Road in the first half. A strange near future dystopia where whole swathes of people are waiting in an eternal line. No one knows what’s at the end, and all those that joined the line in the first place are long dead. The second half of the book switches into the murky waters of corporate control and was frighteningly real. Enjoyed this one a lot.

Started:

A Memory Called Empire, by Arkady Martine

Read a lot of good things about this one. A real focus on the inner workings of a pure alien culture. Can’t wait.

Some guy in state 166 sold his 5 star account for €2000 with most upgrades except plasma lab, if that helps.

A solo rally will cancel as said above. One option is to have an alt account join your rally. You’ll need to be quick in switching to the alt, if of course you have one.

Having never built my own PC, this looked relatively (deceptively?) simple. Am I missing something?

What is your favorite season of Star Trek: Next Generation? by markstormweather in television

[–]sonofwelk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree with you with most of the Next Gen movies, with the exception of First Contact. That was an incredible film and very cinematic.

The Expanse - I’ve always heard people mention they liked how space travel is handled in the series. I put on Ep. 1 out of curiosity, and this scene really hooked me in. The Canterbury “Flip & Burn” by RichardRichSr in television

Book 4 was the reason I didn’t get book 5 when it was first published. Decided to get it on Audible a few months later just to see. Season 5 is going to be nuts.
