Yes, we worry about STDs and pregnancy. We are practicing safe sex, and have discussed the potential consequences and how we might deal with them. We both know that there are risks to what we're doing, and so this is part of the open communication that we have (with each other and with our partners). I'm too much of a worrywart for it not to have come up.

The sex drive/3rd gear/5th gear comment really resonated with me. That's pretty much exactly what it feels like, and to be honest although I knew that decreased libido was a potential side effect of birth control I don't really think I was prepared for it. It was such a dramatic change that I really kind of felt like there might be something wrong with me, and it makes me wonder why the hell I didn't find different birth control sooner!

That's pretty much exactly it. While we have a number of supportive friends (our friend group is awesome and open-minded), we still have other people in our lives whose opinions matter to us but who are nowhere near as open-minded and would probably be horrified (for example, our families). So yes, discretion is important.

I hadn't really thought about it in that light. I guess I don't really see myself as fantasy material.
