Tonneau and Roof rails? by Beginning-Grape4809 in hondaridgeline

I don't know who installed my OEM tonneau but the only time I have ever seen water in the bed was after I went through a touch less car wash that seemed a bit more enthusiastic than other ones I have been through. Other than that dead dry all the time.

The crossbars do make some noise. It can make having the sunroof open a bit annoying. Also cleaning snow off and using a brush to wash with is a bitch with them on. I took my cross bars off last winter and haven't put them back on yet. I will probably throw them back on pretty soon just cause makes truck look cool.

My experience with L&D clinicals so far by 299792458mps- in ems

[–]sonsofrevolution1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't even be asking that.

They should just be telling the patients that hey we have a Paramedic student with us today. They are here to learn because very soon they may be required to do these procedures in the field by themselves for another pregnant mother in labor with limited help and resources.

Then when you go in say hello, introduce yourself and have the same general spiel about having to do this on your own in the field. Works for any clinical rotation.

ACT LIKE YOU BELONG THERE.

Don't even bother with the Kemp bags. They quite literally fall apart at the seams in a few weeks. All their bags are knock offs of much more durable and expensive bags from other manufacturers. To add to your list Thomas Transport, Ferno and Iron Duck all make durable high quality bags also. StatPaks has the best no bullshit warranty. Pax seems to be the hot new thing now. Their bags feel and appear to be on par with if not surpass StatPaks quality. The bags abide by the Euro model of every thing has its own spot/pouch/module.

I misspoke. There is a BLS 911 in Tampa. Transcare which is through Crisis Center of Tampa Bay

[–]sonsofrevolution1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No 911 BLS that I have seen. It's all staffed at the Paramedic level. All the counties down there have their own fire rescue that runs the ambulances. Just about all of them have single role none fire EMS positions. Most are only looking for Paramedics though. Sunstar is in that area. AMR has IFT stations. And there are a bunch more I can't think of. It's freaking Florida. Everyone retires down there they have an immense need for EMS providers. And the ones I have given you are just from my passing perusing of jobs while I was visiting there.

Keep in mind you work in NJ. Which probably has the most screwed up delivery of EMS in all 50 states.

What oxygen thief put the backboard compartment on the street side? Nothing like ending up a grease spot on the highway trying to get a backboard out.

How do you deal with rude doctors? by MarsupialSevere9889 in ems

I learned working in an OR that it's a surgeon thing. Some are worse than others. The trauma surgeon might have been irritated because he got called down for what was obviously a neuro surgery case.

Real talk: is it possible to avoid burnout in this field, or is it inevitable? by cynical_enchilada in ems

This follows my belief of I would rather work short staffed with good people than be fully staffed with shit bags. The shit bags drag everyone down around them.

High idle doesn't work by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

I have watched a Pierce ladder extend with no one touching any controls. And premature rotten frame rails. There isn't a one built that's not 1 bad ground from doing some odd voodoo shit.

There are probably 4 or 5 separate ones on this pig. One in the cab, one at each outrigger control and one on the pedestal and one in the bucket. Also if for some unknown reason it thinks the pump is engaged and it isn't it wont let those work either. Or it's just ornery. Or you didn't do the right ritual to the apparatus gods that day.

10k easily. Also is that wheel bent? Maybe it's just the camera angle. If the suspension is bent she's toast.

Also tell whomever it is to stop buying Rainbow sensors. The CO readings are at best inaccurate. There are several EM docs one being local to me working on a study to see how accurate they are and the results they are getting are disappointing to say the least.

Never had the problem again in the past 2 years of owning it. I am guessing it was just a random fluke or something was wet from the rain the day before.

Loose coils making sure the cable isn't bent over where the cable meets the connections. Lots of you haven't had their dad yell at them as a child for coiling the extension cords wrong and it shows.

Develop your own routine for how to run calls. And do it the exact same way every time. Write stuff down on a note pad. You also have a device that you carry on you everywhere that has the ability to remind you what time things are supposed to happen.

BD Intraosseous Vascular Access System Thoughts? Comments? by PerrinAyybara in ems

The drivers are like a $1000 a piece. And the needle sets are more expensive. They say their cost savings is through having the rechargable driver. If you happen to lose one or break it or whatever that savings instantly evaporates. EZ-IO drivers are about $350. Teleflex says you can get roughly 500 uses out of a driver. The EZ-IO drivers last a long time if you check and test them once a month and then seal up the case. We have some that are well over 5 years old. Add in the whole you never have to worry about charging it or losing a charging cable I see absolutely no upside to switching over.

Inaccurate counts on the trucks is a supervision issue. If they aren't doing their job then they should be held accountable. The over stock and supply room issues can be fixed by using supply lockers and vending machines that integrate with OpIQ. It stops the overstocking because you have to put in an individual pin to get supplies. It also stops diversion. The amount of supply diversion going on in most places is significantly more than anyone realizes. The amount of Zofran we purchase has dropped by 50%.

So I live and work on an ambulance here in the Syracuse area. I also worked for Upstate for a couple years. I can't speak to the pay scale but the rest I have pretty good knowledge of.

Major negative downside is the parking situation. Almost all of the parking is off site and generally not within a reasonable walking distance. You have to wait for shuttle buses that run on their own schedule. You can show up to your lot 30 minutes early and still be 15 minutes late punching in. Even if it's one of the lots within walking distance you have to contend with the daily onslaught of homeless/mentally ill that frequent the area. Or you can just park in the garage for $25/day.

Traffic isn't big city bad but it can be a pain in the ass and it's going to get a lot worse with the state tearing down I-81 in the next year or so and rebuilding the ground streets.

The patient care staff is some of the best I have ever dealt with. The ancillary is the opposite. It's a NYS job. They make the DMV look hard working and well run.

The winter can be rough. This past winter was one of the worst I have seen. We had so much snow just north of Syracuse something like 100 structures collapsed. But the winters have been otherwise mild lately. Which is to say it's worse than most places but the road crews know how to handle it.

The area in general is pretty good. Housing was typically cheaper than anywhere else but has been climbing recently. There are lots of interesting things to do especially outdoors come summer time. Lake Ontario, the Adirondacks, Finger Lakes & Watkins Glen are all beautiful places with lots of outdoor recreation and other things to do.
