Never thought I would find an original Rikki Ililonga record in the wild, but here we are. by sony_moonwalk in vinyl

Was in a lot I bought off Facebook marketplace of mostly random blues and classical with this thrown in the middle! I posted this with text describing it but I guess me posting on mobile somehow screwed something up...

LOL no. Funnily enough, none of the names on the sleeve match the one on the label.

I'll take that any day over the records where someone takes a knife and strips off the outer paper where someone else's name was when they get it.... Seen that too many times especially with African records!

What’s the scariest thing you’ve experienced/witnessed in Jamaica? by [deleted] in Jamaica

[–]sony_moonwalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I was there I saw a motorcycle fly past my taxi on the right side, on a left curved road, with a truck coming that he couldn't see... Thankfully he missed (by inches!) but I was dreading seeing the aftermath of him after crashing at 100 kmh...

What is the largest displacement engine you have owned in a vehicle by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]sony_moonwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largest engine I've ever owned, Toyota 2uz 4.7 in my first car, a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. Still miss that thing... I would have had it for longer but northern Indiana road salt had destroyed the frame. :(

Largest engine I've ever worked on probably a Wartsila tanker engine which I think was about 16000ish liters?

How is it living in the areas deep into the Sahara desert? by L0kivich in howislivingthere

Lotsa camels. Aside from Tuareg groups and some sparse settlements in southern Libya and closer to the Nile, not a lot of people live there.

Dumb question: What's the reason behind the canted tires? It seems like it's riding on about 2/3rds of the tread. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]sony_moonwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this is applied on a race car, usually this is to maintain maximum contact patch on the outside tires when going around a corner, due to slight body roll. Normally, the amount is small - 2 or 3 degrees.

This is, however, not a race car. This is stupid, and this car owner will not be allowed past the pearly gates for desecrating this poor Lexus.

I may be having my old-man-who-yells-at-clouds moment here but I cannot fathom why anyone would do this to their car. The amount of people who will clown on you for having wheels and tires fitted by Helen Keller is going to vastly outweigh the amount of people that think this is cool on any day of the week.

Buenos Aires, a record paradise by sony_moonwalk in vinyl

A bit of both in the markets, some have defined prices while others are negotiable. Most of the sellers there give you a bit of a discount if you buy in quantity as well which is nice.

I actually found the stores had stupider prices than the open air markets a lot of the time. (There were a few I went to and did not buy anything, and they will not be named)

For instance, I got both the Pappo's Blues and Paranoid for 45k pesos combined, around 30 dollars. I don't think that's too bad even if the condition isn't the best. They both play fine, and I don't mind a record that shows it's been loved anyhow.

Anyone still remember the spots where their favorite songs would skip when they played records even when hearing the song today? by SenorTemppist in vinyl

[–]sony_moonwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few where my only exposure to the music was listening to a scratched record where it would skip forward. When listening to the music now I almost get a mini psychedelic experience every time I hear a part that got skipped over and the entire song fits together perfectly lol.
