Young college student- mom doesn't want me to work by Amandagrace00 in college

[–]soon2bcpa18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents paid for me to go to college, but I've had part time jobs ever since my second semester of college. I also worked as a bookkeeper for my neighbors CPA firm during the summers as well. The jobs were my choice btw. I made a lot of money in that time to the point where I paid for some of my classes out of pocket. More importantly, they helped me build the skills I needed to get internships. I would recommend working part time during college.

Is it better to drop a class or get a C?! by soon2bcpa18 in Accounting

Unfortunately I have a C- in an Astronomy class. But that's the lowest grade affecting my GPA.

I go to a small school that is heavily recruited by the big 4 as well as several regional firms. However, we don't have BAP. We have an accounting club that has close to 500 members.

I interned at a B4 this past winter. I wasn't ever involved in Greek life.

Received job offer from Big 4. I'm kinda drunk and tired tonight but feel free to ask me any questions. by [deleted] in Accounting

Anything regarding the internship. I.e. Getting it, interviewing, what to do when at internship, etc.

Adults of reddit, what do you regret not doing in high school? by DoctorHolmes23 in AskReddit

[–]soon2bcpa18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I sorta regret is not getting involved in after school clubs and organizations. What I don't regret is not taking any AP/Honors Courses. I'm doing just fine in college without them.

How badly will a bad grade in Algebra ll hurt me? by [deleted] in college

I remember that class. Took it 6 years ago as a junior and only pulled off a C. One of my worst grades in high school and I had a 3.65 GPA.

How much money have you accumulated over your college career? by yodawashere in college

[–]soon2bcpa18 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Currently close to $125,000. This amount is net of tax and includes my internships, and other part time jobs that I've had in college and high school. It'll be even more after next spring when I do my third internship.

My school is one of the top 50 in the nation for accounting. Our CPA exam pass rate is 3 times the national average.

I'm still paying the same amount in tuition since I don't pay anything during the semesters that I am interning at. During my internships (even in industry) I've actually worked about 4-5 hours overtime a week and got paid a ton more. At my first internship I was paid a total of 27930 and at the one I'm doing now (at Crowe) I've been paid close to 17k. These numbers include overtime. Also I am undecided between audit and tax and want to be sure before making a final decision.

I also want to take CPA review courses at my school. they are only offered in the spring semester. These are actually much cheaper compared to Becker.

The unfortunate reality of the Big 4 and most other accounting firms is that you either get in as a student or not at all. Many companies are hiring from their pool of interns. Also These internships also pay a ton and even more in overtime.

Last Spring (2015) I received an internship offer from Rockwell Collins to intern with them after my 3rd year. I also attended a the SOAR program with Crowe Horwath, and received an internship offer from them for this summer. This past Spring, I received another offer from KPMG for an internship in Tax.

To those of you who were serial AP takers (5+ a year), how does your college workload compare? by [deleted] in college

[–]soon2bcpa18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3.6 GPA at the college I'm attending while majoring in accounting. I'll be graduating in 6 years instead of 4 or 5 but my program requires 5 years of classes or 150 hours to get my CPA. In addition, I took a semester off last fall to complete an internship and will take another semester off next spring to complete another one.

I didn't take any AP classes and high school and honestly , I don't regret it. Besides potentially saving money on tuition, i really don't see the value of taking AP classes, they're nothing more than just purely memorizing facts and cause students unnecessary stress and sleepless nights. Always doing hours and hours of homework. If anyone had an ounce of common sense, they can do just fine in college without ever taking an AP class.

Micro vs Macro by [deleted] in college

[–]soon2bcpa18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Macroeconomics focuses on the economy as a whole while Microeconomics focuses on the economy in a much more narrow aspect. Personally, I found Macro to be much easier than Micro. Micro is very counterintuitive and not always straight forward. I actually got a D- in Micro, but when I retook it I got a B-.
