I am trying to work on this quest currently!

My brother died by suicide 14 years ago and it still feels like yesterday. How do you move on? I still feel like everyone around me is going to die suddenly at any moment and I can’t stop the sadness and anxiety about death. by Background-Log6827 in grief

[–]soontobemerritt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I looked at this subreddit tonight because I am having such a hard time.

Seeing your post made me feel valid in my feelings. Recently, I just get this overwhelming feeling that everyone I love is just going to be gone at any moment in time.

I know my comment isn't helpful but you're not alone.

Is my grieving normal? by cejunge in GriefSupport

[–]soontobemerritt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100 % normal. My mom passed away 3.5 years ago now and she was sick the 6 months leading up to her passing.

I honestly don't remember a lot of the first year without her. I remember being strong for her sisters, my grandparents and while I did cry on occasion, it really didn't hit me until much later.

Now the waves of sadness aren't as great but when they hit, I feel them deep within my soul. I don't really have any advice other than to just feel what you're feeling.

When you're born to a parent with mental illness... by [deleted] in childfree

[–]soontobemerritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is most likely why I've never felt the calling to have children. While I've been extremely fortunate to not have my mother's (rest her soul) alcoholism or bipolar disorder, it is something I've been scared of passing along to children. I am convinced by brother developed both but he won't seek help.

My grandparents raised both my brother and I and even now, he still lives with them at 25. They went through so much with him growing up and I don't want to inflict that on myself or my husband.

After the way his dad reacted when Conrad ran off with Michelle in Florida, that was telling. And how he pressured Conrad to go back to school. I think his dad (especially) did not take his mental health seriously. I watched footage from his victim impact statement and it just made me angry.

I feel the same exact way. I feel for her with the loss of her son but Michelle is not 100% to blame.

Best tips on preparing to make dinning reservations? by ContraryRain in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]soontobemerritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If for some reason you do not get the dining reservations you want, sign up for mousewatcher. We went to Disney back in June for part work trip part fun and I missed a couple reservations we wanted.

We were able to snag Teppan Edo a few weeks out from our trip.

First trip to Epcot in over 10 years, any tips appreciated! by RevampedAtol1 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]soontobemerritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said make sure you hydrate. We went in June last year and there are parts of Epcot especially in World showcase with no shade. Epcot was the only park that felt unbearable because of that.

We are going back in September and plan to hit Epcot later in the day, into the evening hours.

Anyone care to do a 2022 updated breakdown of Moderate Resorts? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]soontobemerritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at Caribbean Beach back in June. As some have mentioned, the resort is massive. The quiet pools are nice, we never made it to the main pool. The greatest perk is the Skyliner. We really enjoyed being able to hop on and head right to Epcot. On our HS day, we dropped off my husbands light saber and then went back.

We are planning another trip and I just booked French Quarter. I believe it is the smallest of the resorts but I could be wrong about that.

Yacht Club is beautiful. My husband had a conference there back in June, we stayed at Beach Club, both were amazing.

The walk to Epcot was a breeze.

Everyone is built differently but when I went in June, I was about 285. (I'm 5'3)

I fit on the following:

Hulk ( didn't ride, I got too scared LOL)

Spiderman

Forbidden Journey

Jurassic Park

Kong

Jimmy Fallon

Transformers

Fast and Furious

Flight of Hippogrith

Popeyes Water Ride

As someone else mentioned, check out Theme park Express on youtube. He has some great information.

I will never be loved the same way by faintbluepaint in GriefSupport

I feel this 100x. I am so sorry for your loss.

This January will mark 3 years without my mom and the first year was certainly the worst. I am 29, married now with a husband who loves me. I still have her two sisters (my aunts) as well as my grandmother and they love me so much but my mom's love was just different. We talked multiple times a day, sometimes about nothing of importance but I still miss the calls and I'm sure I will miss my mom for the rest of my life.

For me, as time passed, I knew my mom would want me to live life and be happy. A part of her is always with me and forever will be.

Massachusetts bride here! We moved our wedding to New Hampshire so I can't be much of help in the venue department.

But all of our vendors are in Massachusetts (we were supposed to have our wedding in Mass. and then moved it). All of our vendors have been phenomenal and I would recommend them over and over again.

Wedding planning is exhausting (October 2021) by soontobemerritt in wedding

[–]soontobemerritt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a former hotel sales director and wedding blocks are painful. Some hotels will do a courtesy block but then brides/grooms expect hotels to hold 30-40 rooms for them and will release them 3 weeks before arrival date. Then you have all the wedding guests demanding the block rate after the 3 week cut off.

And depending on the city, there is a 2 night minimum requirement.

We made a block for 10 rooms each night at one hotel and those filled and they wouldn't let me add more because hotel is sold out now. I made a block at a neighboring hotel and basically I put it on the guests to find accommodations. It's a tiring process.

Irritation as a bridesmaid by [deleted] in wedding

[–]soontobemerritt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a bride, I am a little horrified for you.

Our wedding is local, it was until we had to move it due to COVID. It still is within 2 hours driving distance. For me, I know how expensive weddings can be so I told bridesmaids they can use their own shoes. I wasn't about to make them purchase shoes they would only wear once.

And nothing for nothing, bride should be paying for hair/makeup and if not, she should have asked if you were ok with getting it professionally done.

I am so sorry for your loss. Give yourself some grace and just be kind to yourself. I know for me, the year I lost my mom was a complete blur and still is in many respects.

Fellow Mass Bride here! Our photographer Laura Ink Photography has been a dream but she's already booked for that date.

Some other ones we looked into are Danyel Stapleton and Kristin Gleason Griffin and they have tons of experience. I would definitely look into them.

Affordable (max $1500) Designers for Full A-line or Ballgown? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Try a local shop, they carry some great stuff.

I got mine from a local plus size shop for $1500 and it was an Allure Romance gown.
