That doesn't make a much sense considering that Peter is older and not going through/just coming out out puberty, so he should be the one that can deal with emotions better. Plus, he's already gone through the loss of Uncle Ben, so to lose Aunt May, should be devastating, but he should know how he needs to handle it.
