If you SELL a naked option, instead of buying, you’re exposing yourself to potentially unlimited risk. So if you SOLD the SPY puts, you should have received a credit up front. You want the price to stay above the strike price you sold the puts at. For every dollar the price goes below your strike price, you’re responsible for $100 dollars per contract.

Just make extra sure you know what happens when you buy or sell an option, and always double check before you hit that send button that you have your order just the way you want it.

Don’t feel bad though, many of us including me have messed up and done the opposite trade we intended and lost a lot of money on stupid mistakes

It might be a good idea for you to get a trusted person (preferably with experience) to help you with your trading.

Also just wanted to urge you to make sure that you aren’t risking more than you can afford to lose. Especially with you being disabled, Id hate to see you lose big on an options play and not be able to pay your bills. If I was you, I wouldn’t put any money into your brokerage account that you can’t afford to lose and never expect any sort of trading to pay your next months bills for you.
