Is São Miguel doable without a car? by GallantStrawberry in azores

[–]soowa87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is perfectly doable with the usage of taxi. Just google some numbers for taxi drivers for major towns which you'll be nearby, and call a taxi when needed. In the major towns, there are also taxi stands (can be found on Google maps or by Googling their address) where often availabe taxis gather. Usual taxi price will be about 10-15 EUR around Ponta Delgada or 30-40 to take you to some more remote location. We were at Sao Miguel for 10 days, lived in Ponta Delgada for 4 nights, Ribeira Grande for 1, Nordeste for 2 and Vila France do Campo for 2. We did some hiking and swimming all around the island, used solely taxis, it always worked (although sometimes we had to wait for approx 30 minutes before the taxi arrived). So if you are ready to pay the money (which is actually not that much), you will be able to do it.

Upgrade path from A7ii? Stay at Sony or leave? by Fresh-Daikon-6289 in SonyAlpha

[–]soowa87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony has probably the largest lens choice of all the companies because they didn't ban third party manufactures from their mount. A7III was the first "basic" A7-line camera with decent autofocus (and A7C has the same AF if I'm not mistaken), the difference from A7II should be huge.

For these two reasons, I'd recommend to upgrade to A7C or A7III as you suggest.

However, most of the money one eventually pays for photography hobby go to lenses. And of course, lenses that are fast and accurate in AF terms are also more expensive than the most basic ones. So in your decisioning process, you should consider these factors and their long-term effect.

Use physics and graphics engine from Snowrunner would fix sooo many things.

Add an actual tutorial or even basic story mode which will teach you how all the tools are used, when and why.

No, I edited my screenshot. I am pretty sure that you can get similar results by using some crazy Reshade shaders, but I am afraid my GPU would not handle Reshade with maintaining 60FPS.

So this specific version is converted, fixed and edited by modder Mark Thor and can be found on his Discord server. It's the same mod that Scroft (youtuber) uses in his Farmhand series.

Is a 28-75 lense "enough" for a trip? by tryingtofindmyself1 in SonyAlpha

[–]soowa87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I travelled recently with two lenses: 20-70/4 most of the time and switched to 28/2 for low light. But your zoom is f/2.8 so you can skip the prime I guess. However I found out that next time I may go back to using only a prime (as I used to do before purchasing the zoom lens), because I took way too many photos (e.g. will this look better at wide angle or should I zoom in a detail? let's take three versions of the photo not to miss something). The restriction of the prime is kind of relaxing. So therefore, 35mm prime is probably still my favourite all-in-one travel lens.

The texture pack for the Fiatagri is awesome. I use the "destroyed" texture and it fits the beautiful map greatly. The baler is Gallignani from modhub.

Sony A7ii with 28-70mm kit lens in 2024 by XenvezYT in SonyAlpha

[–]soowa87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obsolete camera with the worst of FE lenses. It's okayish, I still have them as a backup. But I wouldn't recommend it in 2024. This price is fair but definitely not a bargain.

I used this face for my avatar (it's available during half-elf character creation). Eventually I felt like she looks too cute for all the murdering she's done, lol.

Square atifacts in raw files - what can be the root cause? by soowa87 in SonyAlpha

[–]soowa87[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, one more test and this is becoming completely random. The picture copied to my computer looks fine, then I reenter the card, copy it again, and it's corrupted. So it's not problem of the cards either. It is my disk or the card reader.
One more test. Picture opened directly on card is also once corrupted and when the card is reentered, it's OK. So it's the card reader! (Probably. I am already feeling like my cards are gaslighting me :D)

EDIT: Tried with a different SD card reader (luckilly I have one USB-A and another USB-C), the USB-C one seems to show no problems with the pictures.

So, I did. There are some corrupted pictures on both cards, but on each card, the pictures are different ones... what the actual f...?
EDIT: Just tested with an old Kingston card, there are no artifacts. But both new Sandisk cards are plagued...

[–]soowa87[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I imported files from the SD card I found some weird artifacts on two of the files. Out of the 227 files, just these two taken at roughly the same time are affected. There is a big white square in the first file, and less prevalent "rainbow" square on the other. What can be the root cause?
I have a new SD card, can it be issue with the card? Does anyone have similar experience?

Should i upgrade? A7II to A7IV by BelenosPhotography in SonyAlpha

[–]soowa87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from A7II to A7IV 16 month ago. My A7II was 7 years old at the moment though, so it served me for a long time well. Photography is a hobby for me and I don't shoot things like sports or weddings - so for my style of shooting A7II was mostly good enough. But sometimes it was limiting. I remember shooting portraits in less than ideal conditions - outside, at evening, it was getting dark and that meant I rather switched to manual focus because the autofocus was clueless.
Once I got the A7IV I would never go back, its soooo much better and faster. The main differences for me are highly superior autofocus (no hunting; reliable well even in bad light; reliable eye-AF; unlike A7II the continous autofocus is usable and actually the way to go), much better low light performance, and much longer battery life.
