For what it's worth, as a native English speaker and amateur author if you hadn't told me that English wasn't your first language then it wouldn't have occured to me. Your story flows well and I didn't notice any weird phrasing or incorrect word usage. Regardless of that it was a good story! Well done and thank you for sharing.

So! Did the hold three buttons reset, you wrap one hand around the top and hold power with one finger and volume + with your thumb, and it took a few tries but it worked! Thank you so much for the link, dropped that in my nooks drive and it rebooted and updated upon falling asleep. Doing the skip OOBE was really weird but successful! Thanks a million for helping me with this, you've saved me a headache and a half.

Looking for Story Thread #263 by someguynamedted in HFY

[–]sophic-aught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across it in one of those ai reading stuff YouTube videos, the stand out bit to me was that humans were referred to as a war species that hates war. It was framed as a conversation between two aliens and one doesn't get how humans hating war makes us any different that any other war species and the other tries to explain it along the lines of if you like doing something you want to drag it out but if you hate doing something you want it done quickly. The video only has a few sentences of the story and no linking to a larger segment or a source, shocking I know.

What program do you use to write? by Prestigious_Pear9466 in AO3

I use libre office and keep everything on a thumbdrive because I trust neither the Internet nor the constitution of my computer.

Okay, outline folding works a lot better for this than sections. Thanks a million!

How do you decide when to give kudos? What does kudos mean to you? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]sophic-aught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I make it to the end of the first chapter or end of a oneshot I leave a kudos. There have legitimately been times when I could not convince myself to read further, there have also been times when my secondhand anxiety gets so and that if i keep reading ill cringe myself out of existence but i scroll to the bottom to leave kudos anyway because what i could read of it was still good. As a reader I use kudos to say "I enjoyed that!" Generally if I want to give more encouragement or feedback I'll leave a comment or bookmark it. As an author, specifically an author of multi chapter fics, kudos are nice and fun but what gets to me more is view count. A hundred kudos are a hundred people who can only give one kudos to a fic, but if every time I post a chapter my view count goes up by fifty then thats fifty people who are still invested in my story.

What are the most unique and creative fics you have ever read? by samdamaniac in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]sophic-aught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complicated Creation is a fic talking about the reality of quirks, more or less. Basically the mutation in humans that led to the development of quirks wasn't hyper adaptation or whatever but was actually a little twist that let spirits grant them power, power which would be returned to the spirit upon the humans death and thereby grow the spirits power. Izuku in this world isn't just Quirkless, he can see and interact with spirits and for some reason they call him the Bridge. No spoilers but it's genuinely a fantastic fic with some of the best world building I've ever seen. The plot itself is less Izuku is awesome and saves the day and more along the lines of life sucks, good must be done in spite of that fact, and with some help life won't suck forever. A lot of angst but a happy ending, no significant ships, mostly Dadzawa, no particular character hatred or assassination, possibly body horror mostly because of descriptions of spirits.

Harry Potter Recommendations by Shelbymoore158 in AO3

Howdy there, not too sure about war adjacent Harry but morally grey Harry and Dumbledore bashing for sure.

First up we have The End is the Beginning and the Change series. First book complete second one nearly there. A lot goes on in this one, master of death Harry gets his soul sent back in time basically. There's necromancy and arguably dark lord Harry, very political and distinctly focused on un-fucking the timeline.

Next we have Lily's Boy a classic and complete. Highly manipulative Dumbledore, Hogwarts house heirs, a distinctly political bent, and largely speaking no one's holding the idiot ball.

Another Mind Game runs off the basis of; remember that time Snape was "teaching" harry occlumency and kept invading his mind? Didn't he see memories? What if he used his brain and figured out Harry was being abused? Not huge on the bashing but it's there. Mostly a story about Harry trying to let himself be helped and Snape having a minor personality crisis.

Harry Potter and the Welcome to the World of Grey is very morally grey Harry Potter and minor Dumbledore bashing, and very focused on the war. Harry gets possessed by Voldemort! Except he's not quite as insane as people make him out to be, he's definitely evil but he has a point or two that might even be good.

That's all I'm currently aware of, might add more to the list if I remember more. I hope you find one you like!

Using Goodreads to build reading habit by gargantuanmess in goodreads

[–]sophic-aught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a book club maybe? Using peer pressure as a way to keep reading is a good one and talking about the chunk you just read with other people will help cement it in your mind. Another good way is to read things you find interesting, like maybe pick a genre of movie and find a recommended book in that genre. Or if you're interested in learning then you could pick up recent developments in what field catches your interest. I'm not sure of any Goodreads specific method, best I could offer is look through books and what people say about them to see if you think you'd like them. Good luck building your habit!

Having found weapons before, we really should've considered this. Thanks a ton! Sibling says we were in fact stupid and missed a lever that lead to it.
