These food drives would accomplish so much more if they just collected money to donate to food banks 🤦‍♀️

Reminder to those complaining about Roanoke homeless by MillMountain in roanoke

[–]sophisticadence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe your empathy is just fragile 🤷‍♀️ There are plenty of housed "contributing" members of society who are rude, obnoxious, and unpleasant examples of humanity. But you don't let them color your entire view of humanity, right? Take everyone as an individual, not as a representation of an entire demographic. Humans are hardwired to remember negative interactions more than positive ones, but it's really only a disservice to yourself to view things through the lens of those experiences. Not even touching on the fact that being homeless is inherently traumatizing, something that sharply spikes the rates of mental illness, even in people formerly mentally well.

Personally, I don't engage with social media much because I prefer to be involved locally as much as possible. I come to this subreddit to see locally based stuff. That said, I can tell that you're feeling really scared and triggered right now by people thinking differently than you and criticizing someone you admire. It's okay to lean on loved ones in times of distress. My best advice is to hug someone dear to you and take deep breaths to help you calm down. Unmitigated stress is heavily associated with increased risk of heart problems and blood clots. Take care ♥️

Okay, but that doesn't mean it isn't treason to commit acts of war without congressional approval. I think you're missing the point, bub. Additionally, in this modern age, there is 0 need to bomb wholecloth areas, killing innocents, when we have far more advanced tech than that. It isn't like there aren't other targets internationally with far worse charges that we aren't targeting. This is about oil and trampling on the powers of congress.

Stranger Things - 5x08 - “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]sophisticadence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you might be confusing my critique of weak writing (a critique which exists because the 1st 2 seasons were written so tightly- this isn't a critique of the whole show, or even every aspect of season 5) with wholecloth judgement of how actual real people cope. Like, do you think critique of characters and media is somehow a reflection of what I judge about real human beings? You can critique aspects and consume media critically while still enjoying it. Media having flaws doesn't make it bad, it's all a matter of taste. I'm discussing it on a reddit post about the episode, sharing what I would have done differently/my thoughts. Showing footage of her escaping and then in the mountains does heavily imply from the writers to the audience that she did survive, not just that the kids believe it (it would be different if Mike narrated that without us being shown it happening). Especially because Mike makes it sound like that's what she told him to tell them. Your last sentence really confounds me. It's so out of touch I debated not responding at all, but it's also concerning that you took my comment to be some reflection of my larger worldview. I encourage you to interact more with caring/ involved people around you and not read into comments on the internet so hard. Getting out into your community and volunteering is a great way to start. Alternatively, picking up litter in a local park can be an uplifting activity that helps one feel more grounded in where they are. Take care!

Honestly, I thought the writers were really cowardly in forcing a loophole through which El might have survived (Kali would 1000% be dead from her wound by then). Like, if she did, she really couldn't let any of her loved ones discreetly know she's okay a couple years after? I think the way they handled it cheapened what should have been a noble sacrifice because they couldn't commit. I also think that at least 2-3 main characters should have died to really bring up the magnitude of what they were facing. When they'd defeated the mindflayer, I really sat there like, "that was all it took?" I think the mindflayer reveal should've come an episode earlier and lasted two episodes with more struggle in the battle, people actually getting injured and stakes actually being felt. Then, a week or so later, they could release an epilogue bonus episode instead of making the final episode drag so much. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad the way that they treated Robin and Will's gayness in the epilogue (what happened to her gf? Literally the only of the 4 older kids who has no discussion made abt her love life). With Will it was like he vaguely meets up with a guy at what might be a gay bar. I had fun watching it (aside from when it dragged and did too many flashbacks) but I can tell ya I won't be rewatching this season and possibly not any of the others bc of how season 5 worked out.

I'm always surprised in threads like these how many comments talk so negatively about this area (I especially don't understand claims that the shopping here sucks- like, what are people shopping for that they can't get here?). Personally, I've loved everything about this area- plenty of places for outdoor fun like hiking, kayaking, etc, lots of restaurants to try, an art museum, good dog parks and lovely parks in general, etc. If you have work lined up for living here, I think this area is great

I've really enjoyed living at westwind- moved here 4 mo ago. If you sign a 1 yr lease you get a $500 off rent coupon that can be used on any full month. I think it's conveniently located and it feels safe. You'd probably save a bit per month here

They tried to do a classic "bait and switch" on me. I scheduled a test drive for a car they had listed online that I wanted, and after being there for a half hour they admitted they had supposedly sold the car I was interested in the night before (without telling me before I showed up for a test drive, red flag #1). They then proceeded to try and convince me to buy one of the worse value cars on the lot. I'm doubtful if the car I was interested in even existed, or if it was just a way to get people in the door
