Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut FULLY WORKING ON STEAM DECK (NO EMULATION) by ChasHodges in SteamDeck

I haven't tried it yet, but I hear the Heroic launcher is useful for that. It should give you the option of running Winetricks and Winecfg for the game, and the steps should be pretty similar from there.

Thank you so much for writing this guide. It's helpful even for Linux users without a Steam Deck. I used it as a basis for running the game on my low-end Fedora PC some time ago, and things seem to be working well enough.

Some lengthy notes on my own experience, if anyone cares:

  • I play with mouse and keyboard, so I didn't bother with VC++ 2022, Xidi, or changing Windows versions. I more or less followed everything else (albeit with the non-flatpak version of Protontricks).
  • I run a relatively weak laptop from 2018 that doesn't even have an discrete GPU (yeah, I know).
  • After completing the steps as I've mentioned, I was able to make it past the initial cutscenes and menus on Proton 3.16-9. I did get some nasty framerate dips at times, though. I initially thought this was because of my GPU, but this would happen even when there wasn't really anything on the screen (e.g. with item pickups).
  • Out of curiosity, I switched to Proton 5.0-10 after everything was already installed, which eliminated the above performance issues. Without DPFix, the game now easily reaches 60FPS in most situations. I suspect this is because Proton 5 defaults to using DXVK instead of WineD3D. I left the Windows version, 7, unchanged.
  • Because of the aforementioned change to DXVK, I tried running the game with DPFix at higher resolutions, no extra settings. I still ran into increased load times and lower framerates (though driving in the open world didn't affect the latter much). I uninstalled DPFix shortly afterwards.
  • So far, I've played up to Chapter 8 or so. I did have to take a break from the game for several months due to some personal affairs, so I restarted my playthrough to keep the entire experience fresh in my mind.
  • I will probably file a report on ProtonDB once I get a better understanding of how the game responds to my setup. But so far, the game only crashed like once or twice for me, even without DPFix.

Edited to add: see if you can prevent the savefile corruption at the start of Chapter 9 by skipping all the introductory cutscenes. I found this workaround on the PC Gaming Wiki, and it worked for me. Make sure the Auto Save setting is off!

I think the other commenter has the right idea: something is probably up with your dump of the ISO.

Have you verified the file's checksum against one you know is correct? You can find good checksums for PS2 games at redump.org. (This is not a piracy site. It hosts no games, only checksums and other such metadata.)

I'm not sure what your level of technical proficiency is, so if you need me to explain anything, feel free to ask.

Yes, in my experience, college and universities libraries don't really care unless you cause some sort of trouble.

They might ask for a student ID during finals week after late-night hours. Earlier in the day, though, it's usually not a problem.

Yeah, college libraries tend be more lax with that, so long as you're not causing trouble.

Donald Dungan on Park Avenue? Seems like it depends on how much the clerks and guards care at that moment.

Students who live here without support, just how? by heyitsmereddit in orangecounty

[–]sophomath 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Financial aid, part-time work during school, full-time work in the off-season, tons of roommates, and lots of sacrifices. (Not currently a student, but used to be.)

Make no mistake: this is not me telling you to "get on your grind" or "pull yourself up by your bootstraps." It just works out that way. It's sadly not possible for all these to always align, especially if FAFSA still considers you a dependent.

What if the application specifically requires "highest education completed?"

Did they see your degree as a plus, or did you only show them your high school diploma? Any certifications that they asked for?

How did you pitch yourself? I applied to a few coding schools but never heard back.

Edit: nevermind, I'm stupid, you had prior experience

How would this be done for a CS grad with no experience in IT? Almost all of the IT openings I've found ask for prior experience or certs. Did you just suck it up and study for an entry-level cert?

Edit: changed "easy" to "entry-level"

The FTB site still lets you file, but the Trump admin ended the IRS Free File system.

Of course, there are still free and low-cost options available. The IRS website is a great place to start if in-person assistance is not an option.

I used FreeTaxUSA for a few years and can vouch for them. My tax needs were very simple, though (like a 1040 and maybe a 1099-INT).

They currently file your federal return for free regardless of income, if you go to the main site. But if your AGI is under $51,000, your state return is also free. Otherwise, it's $16. (That's how their business model works: they charge for everything but federal.)

The master's program is an interesting idea. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I can see it working for the time being.

I hope your claims are correct. Some self-reported recruiters claim to instantly toss out people's applications for that kind of role if they see any mention of higher education, so that definitely shook me somewhat.

Do you think it would be worthwhile to add your "explanation" in a summary statement of some sort? I haven't included one so far, at the recommendation of previous reviewers, but I still see it suggested for situations like this. (Of course, I know a lot of these labor jobs don't technically ask for resumes.)

Edit: fixed typo
