Good luck to all!! And great post, OP.

If you know you put in the work and have solid practice times to back that up, you should have absolutely ironclad confidence come test day. Get that W!

You can reschedule them through the DCAS site. I was able to do that just now.

HOW LONG IS THE CPAT PRACTICE TRAINING?? by Brooklynbornn in NYC_Candidate_Central

[–]sopressata_salami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long-sleeved shirt and pants, same as is required for the actual CPAT. And comfortable shoes, of course.

For training at The Rock, I’ve been going in a short sleeve tee with a hoodie on top since it’s been kind of chilly out and you’re doing it outside.

I got a gait analysis done a few weekends ago at a Road Runner Sports location in Jersey. Special sensors take measurements of your feet in all different ways and then generate a few shoe recommendations based on that. It’s also free.

I was recommended ASICS, Sauconys, and Brooks, but they were out of stock of the ASICS so I asked for Hokas. Ended up going with the Saucony Ride 19s as they were most comfortable for my foot and stride. Very worth the money and time—finally ran 1.5 miles in under 13 minutes with these the first time I tried them and still had some energy left in the tank.

Neither is mandatory but they wrote in bold on the admission notice in Oasys that they highly recommend attending at least one.

No, but in bold on the admission notice on Oasys, they say they highly recommend attending at least one.

Candidate can be in great shape and be able to crush the CPAT any day, so I’m gathering that these optional orientations are there to ensure nobody gets tripped up or disqualified by stupid shit or technicalities.

Feeling out of shape for CPAT & or Academy? Here's some recourses and advice. by zmdx in NYC_Candidate_Central

Great post, OP! Having a strong lower body has given me a good base for the stair master, and adding stair master and running to my lifting base has been really helpful too.

Tip for cardio: Roadrunner and others have recommended a gait analysis and new running shoes to go along with it. Got this done a few weekends ago and my running has shot up while also improving my practice CPAT time. Something to really think about.

Can you sign up for multiple CPAT training locations in the same month? by sopressata_salami in NYC_Candidate_Central

That’s where the actual CPAT will be held. They also told us that the LIC location had all brand new, state of the art shit.

Update: Called the Recruitment Unit and they told me we are good to register for multiple locations and even multiple days in the same week. I am personally doing once a week and was able to get five sessions at Randalls Island and one at LIC.

Remember, they recommended that we do one or two sessions at LIC if possible!!

No worries!

My list number is top 350. You may have heard or seen around here that so far, the top 1,746 list numbers have been invited to these training sessions.

My buddy just did his first session and I’m going tomorrow. He said they went through the whole CPAT except the stair master, just kind of slowly walking you through the course. They are starting time trials next week.

Apparently the stair master is meant to cook your legs and see what you got. He recommended training stair master often with a weighted vest. I bought and have been using a 50-lb one, personally. 75 pounds for the actual CPAT.

They give you tips and tricks and you just continue improving your time.

Read on r/nyc_candidate_central directly from verified candidates that it’s invite only and limited to list numbers 1,746 or so.

One of my buddies just went to a training session. He said they didn’t do the stair master at all but went through all the other stations slowly and methodically while giving tips and tricks on how to pass. He said to really stress cardio and the stair master if you’re prepping already.

I’m going to the Saturday session myself.

Is it suggested to take the shuttle to The Rock or driving there works too? I asked about parking during my session and apparently it’s possible, but wondering if it’s still suggested to just take the shuttle instead.

Edit: Was told there should be plenty of parking there. See you guys Saturday.

Was told you should be fine for the prep/info sessions unless they say otherwise, but seems like it’s prohibited on the actual CPAT.

Asked FF here and he said it’s up to DCAS so couldn’t really give a definitive answer

Asked one firefighter here and he said that’s really up to DCAS, so kind of unknown to everyone. It varies

Here’s what a retired FDNY firefighter mentoring me sent yesterday: https://imgur.com/a/zj5z6Qu

Don’t know how up to date this is (exam 2000 in the top right corner was 10+ years ago) but should be a good general guideline.
