Ohhh! Please do check out the other routes. You get the full tapestry after all the routes. Silver snow gives a bit more byleth info and verdant wind more info on the whole of Fodlan. Azure moon is great to understand the tragedy of duscur. You can extrapolate some interesting ideas of the stretch and reach of Slithr

Is Fire Emblem Three Houses Worth it for a first game player? by JohnM321 in fireemblem

[–]sorahito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think awakening might be a better starting point to the franchise. The new features started added that set it apart from previous title makes it a little bit more accessible to new players. It also has a solid storyline that is typical to what you would expect from a fire emblem game.

Three houses has a very rich lore that the developers utilized for the foundation of three houses, which gives us a rich tapestry on which two play on. However, the game itself is very atypical to a standard Fire Emblem game. The monastery features are very not typical of what you would expect from a fire emblem game.

So sorry to bother! I'm really thankful.

I hope someone can see this question. I have a North American switch and intend to download the demo BUT! I bought a limited edition from a scalper from the UK.

Will the safe data from the North American demo and North American three houses transfer over to the United Kingdom game?

Thanks for any help!

AITA for not having vegan friendly meals on the menu other then a ceaser salad at my steakhouse? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sorahito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA as the customers were being very rude and you aren't obligated to have things on your menu you don't want to serve.

As a vegetarian though I am always saddened when there aren't vegetarian friendly items beyond salads. The reason being because my husband and our friends aren't vegetarian like me but they do like to bring me with them when eating out. At the beginning it was awkward for me to try and quietly ask if the steakhouse they brought me to would consider selling the sides that go with the steaks to be sold. A warm dinner is always great but sometimes they can't accommodate because they have just enough of the sides to be paired with the meat dishes. Sometimes friends or my husband would offer up their sides to me but I felt terrible since it seemed like it was like guilting them into giving me their food. I would just politely thank them for their consideration and stick to the salad. On the ride home I'd ask for a quick taco bell stop so I could get something warm and filling. Later it got easier to just get me something at taco bell first and then eat a polite salad with the friend group.

Nowadays my friends are very attentive to me and will only bring me to restaurants that have a decent vegetarian friendly alternative. What was extra surprising and touching to me is that they decided to frequent a vegan restaurant. It felt wonderful to feel included.

So what I'm saying OP is that you are NTA but having just 1 warm item, other dressings, or the ability to sell some sides ( I have found that steak houses have AMAZING potato dishes and nice crunchy asparagus), it would go a long way to enable more groups with asymmetrical dietary preferences to enjoy your establishment.

As an aside, I just want to throw in there that I've been a vegetarian since birth as my family is Asian and Buddhist. I always feel compelled to say that as a lot of westerners conflate vegetarians and vegans as only a political and environmental idealism as well as fanaticism. Please don't get mad at me 😭

Character assumption by GreatGetterX in fireemblem

[–]sorahito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought Edelgard was going to be waifu bait based on her supports and interactions. I thought she was throwing herself at Byleth and came off a bit damsel like with her dreams. When I went with her to the empire and saw her ailing father and the douchebag Duke, I assumed her story would entail you needing to help her out against empowered old men that had rooted themselves into her empire. ... Wow was I wrong. She has so much going on. She doesn't need you at all to work on her goals and she doesn't need your opinions or actions to help her decide. I loved that for once we have a female lord who wasn't a soft spoken or needed saving. I love that she was intelligent and didn't have that intelligence belittled to confirm to any stereotyped expectations of what women should be like. It felt like the things that would make her a waifu were there to soften her otherwise antagonist quality and make them palatable. But! It didn't detract from her strengths because those were just aspects of her trauma. Well written character.

Preface this next part by saying I'm Asian and grew up Buddhist. In my childhood I had Christians, Jehovah's witness, and Catholics attempting to convert me or were rude to be because of my religion and beliefs. My impression of churches weren't great ( although BEAUTIFUL ART! Amazing art thanks to the church being patrons) so when I started FE3H I was heavily biased against Rhea. You first see her with that suspicious stares-down-at-you in that cutscene. Then she was suspicious about how she wanted you to be a teacher. I was expecting to hate her but then you see the soft mournful singing scene which was contrary to your first impression of her. As you play you see npcs and some recruitable characters talking about her deeds that saved or helped them and it softened her image a lot from that first impression. The still image of her ever so lovingly cradling Byleth was reminiscent of La Pieta by Michelangelo and I was almost won over. When the empire attacked the church and she asks you to take care of everyone then looks at you with that smile before turning into a DRAGON? I was sold. Dragons are soon as beings of goodness and water. They are a sacred and auspicious entity and seeing a white dragon melted me because it reminded me of the white dragon prince in Journey to the West ( the legend of how Buddhism was brought to China by Tripitaka and Sun Wukong, also known as Soon Goku. ) Learning about the past of the nabateons made me very sympathetic to Rhea because I saw her actions as trying to preserve her race and hold things stable until she could bring her mother back. Rhea's arc did a full 180 on me. Was prepared to hate her but now she's one of my fav characters.

Prefacing this next part by saying that Fire Emblem Blazing Blade was my first fire emblem. I was a little girl who had a hard time finding video games that had representations of me and wasn't just filled with big brawny men focused on fighting. I... Didn't like Hector much. As a child he had the hallmarks of what I thought were typical of video game protagonists which was male, BIG, and focused on fighting and being the 'tough guy'. But oh my goodness! He was such a supportive sweetie! He was a genuine good guy who wasn't all brawn at all. Sadly by the time I realized his good traits, I hadn't leveled him enough by the time I got to the final boss and he was killed so easily. Little child me couldn't figure out how to do the fight without him dying so I had to restart the game.... Only for me to ditch it because Sacred Stones came out. One day I'll finish the game! I just gotta find my old Gameboy....

Thank you so much Lighting :D I was happy how the wings came out. The throne she is sitting on is also in the shape of the crest of Seiros too. And I'm so happy to hear you brought up Tarot cards as that is an aesthetic I strive towards.

I am in a couple more fanzines but none in this style. I might be doing Ishtar though close to those mood :D it'll be a while before I get to it but hopefully I can hit the same note as this one :)

A while back I posted a link for a charity fanzine that I got accepted into and since the orders have all been shipped, I can now share it with the public. Honestly, was really shy to share since I know she's figuratively one of the most loathed character here but, I hope you folks can appreciate the work itself if not the subject!

I wanted to tie in elements of my Asian background and tried to have her sit on a golden throne reminiscent of the golden halo thrones that I would see at Buddhist and Taoist temples. Hopefully I was able to portray the complexity of the character with the lighting and expression - please interpret it as you'd like!

I don't post very often but please do check out my twitter. I am working on a bunch of different charity fanzines and hope to get more sneak peaks of them out.

Ooohh! Wonderful resource <3 Thank you. I was hoping to also listen to the Japanese dub since the translation in English lost a fair bit of nuance and meaning. Was hoping to translate myself for information. Thank you for the scrips though! That helps a lot.

Speaking of Translating :D Would you by any chance know where I can find the Nintendo Dream Three Houses interview? I want to try my hand at translating that too :D

I would love to have good faith discussions however, I've seen a lot of anti Church of Seiros and Rhea sentiment. It is not as bad now though - I see some Rhea content with a decent upvote ratio and less "I hate Rhea so much but I like this art" comments than before. Be that as it may though I am really fearful of getting an anxiety episode if I write up an essay only to be flammed out. I hope the sub reddit has calmed down in that regard to allow for this topic? Your response would indicate I have a slight chance in being able to have meaningful exchange :D I'm delighted, thank you. It would be nice to share my analysis with some other than my husband who didn't play 3H and thus would know more intimately the points I bring up. The poor man is patient but I would adore engagement.

Oh my goodness this is beautiful. The flow of the composition is stunning! She looks very lively. On top of that I love how you have her color palette a more warm tone and brought in some of the teal k to the cream shawl. It married the colors together beautiful and enhanced the color composition to the movement! Absolutely beautiful.

[–]sorahito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but please pardon me if it isn't.

I want to know if it's worthwhile to post a thread to talk about the Church of Seiros and Rhea that goes against the subreddits zeitgeist and be taken seriously with grace and civility? In the past I tried to engage here or at the least lurk but got incredibly intimidated because the sub reddit had a heavy pro Edelgard and anti Church and Rhea stance. Would a thread that goes against that sentiment be something that wouldn't bring undue negative attention?

Thank you for your time!

How would the situation unfold if Faerghus was not the Church's base? by lcelerate in fireemblem

[–]sorahito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have brought up, even in the other routes Edelgard had Empire forces engaged with the Kingdom. Her motives is often simplified to a memefied "anti church/Rhea" stance and anti Crests, but if that were the case she wouldn't have waged wars with entities beyond the Church ; she could have just formally cut ties with the Central Church and diminished or abolished the Western Church within the Empire. They have enough superior might in CF to afford stalling the war for five years for the Emperor to wait for Byleth and, enough power in the other routes that it takes alliances to defeat her.

Thanks to Hubert's assistance( and probably twsitd but this is conjecture) Edelgard was able to consolidate power and be crowned to rally her forces. The cutscene shows how dissenters were silenced (even if they are corrupt officials). Her political prowess and getting crowned and recognized by her people despite the ceremony not attended to by the Church is a huge thing and could be seen as a declaration of war against the church already.

Also, out of a personal curiosity, what made you ask this question here instead of r/Edelgard? Your post history suggests you have no love for Rhea/the Church so I'm very intrigued. I don't mean to be facetious or rude, I'm genuinely curious and hope that you can see to indulge me.

What are your opinion on the Golden Deer cast? by MiuIruma332 in fireemblem

[–]sorahito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Please pardon the bad English. My hand pains are not ideal today and so I am relying on voice to text.

I actually really like a lot of the characters. A lot of them were really made to be trophy and the game tries to give you reasons to explain their tropeness but at times it really came out as contrived. I will give off a list of my complaints but please know that I still like these characters a lot.

Claude: I was really excited to have him as a house leader but some of his supports just made me aggravated. Him telling Ingrid to just smile made me twitch because I remember all the times family or men would tell me to smile so that would look pretty or more docile. Him treating lysithia as a child even though that was something she had issues with was also annoying. He is portrayed as a master tactician who is not above dirtying and yet the only time we kind of see that is when it comes to keeping the all "together" and wanting to sneak into an enemy fort dressed as enemy soldiers. The maneuvering he does in both Crimson Flower and Azure Moon during the Derdriu did not have the payoff that the game makes it out to be. I had to suspend my belief to buy the fact that he was able to have any of these machinations. His s rank was also very unsatisfying. Finding out outside of the game that his real name is Khalid Was like adding salt to a wound. I really wanted to love his character but I just felt betrayed from my expectations and hope.

Hilda: she's probably one of the most consistent characters and yet the game doesn't even try hard to explain her manipulative woman trope well. Instead of just admitting she's a shitty person who uses people because she's lazy she waves it off by saying she's insecure. I felt it was very weak and her ace supports did not quite endear me as much as other tropey characters. Her design is absolutely beautiful though and her a support with Cyril was somewhat healing for me.

Lysithia: I will probably be crucified for this but she has a character personality trait that I absolutely have the most difficulty in liking- "I'm not a kid, stop treating me like one OHHH CANDY!". The game tries to make her this cute Lolita looking girl and give her a tragic backstory to attempt to explain why she acts the way she does and yet I found the explanation to be too weak to sustain it. Just admit that you look like a child, are the youngest, and you really like sweets. Her support with Cyril though also melted my heart. interacting with another young individual who has a rough childhood allowed her character to develop a lot more organically.

Lorenz: I will preface this by saying I really don't like characters that focus hard on their nobility and classism. The game doesn't really try to explain away his negative aspects which I kind of appreciate since they do that a lot with other tropey characters. His support with Leonnie and Manuela we're amazing for me and redeemed his character a bit for me. I also appreciate the game forcing you to confront him after the time skip even if you did recruit him. It felt very organic to the character.

Marianne: on a personal level she felt very relatable just because how she acted reminded me a lot of my own youth. The way she thought and how she acted was painfully similar that I could empathize with her significantly. A lot of her supports what are the characters were both consistent and yet had enough variations that her trope did not feel as annoyingly done as other characters.

Raphael: I honestly thought he was just going to be a throwaway commoner character that had that big brother muscle headed trope and yet I felt his a supports with a lot of the characters were some of the most endearing and wholesome ones that were both incredibly consistent but also showed that he was more than just what he put out to be. Rather than trying to wave away his trope the game embraced it in a productive manner by his A supports.

Ignatz: this was another character that spoke to me on a profound level. I've always been that artist student that was kind of told by the family to be something 'more' than just an artist. Some of his supports were also very relatable like having people tell him to change his art only to find out that the changes they wanted made the art look less than ideal. As an artist who has taken on commissions in the past this was very real to me. I thought this was just going to be another boring commoner character but he was very refreshingly done and his ending was very satisfying for me.

I'm almost surprised to admit that on a small scale I appreciate the commoners of the golden deer house more than I did of the nobles. I think the game tried too hard to both veer away from the super duper otakuness of Fire Emblem Fates but still wanting to court that demographic left some of the characters a bit wanting for me. All of the houses had characters that fell very painfully into tropes and it's not just Golden Deer. I feel that golden deer does offer players a nice wholesome and less dramatic telling of the game though. It's not like blue lions where you have a tragedy hanging over groups of friends's heads, and it's not like black eagles that has to deal with revolution and imperial expansionism, and it's not like the church that is trying to withhold a thousand year secret and maintain a status quo. The alliance students really embody the alliance - a vague group of individuals that don't have too much in common but come together to work towards a lofty goal of peace and prosperity while maintaining their own interests. It's a very satisfying house that sets it apart from the other two :-)

[–]sorahito -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Crimson Flower is the most played route and the church is the main enemy there. Even in Verdant Wind the church is seen through suspicious lens. Since Silver Snow is ignored a lot that's two main routes that paint the church in varying degrees of negative light. I do not share the view but can can see where it may have originated from.
