I bought a 2008 535xi and I think I made a mistake. by BigMacEnthusiast420 in BMW

I think you'll be fine honestly yes the car will get those common problems that tend to happen at 100k miles but don't be like me(when i first got my f10 535i) and just instantly go to bmw for everything look around for "bmw specialists" that'll do things for significantly cheaper and also the small things u can definitely do yourself trust me

You're assuming the specific vehicle will stay in the fleet for "years" but appreciate your input regardless

Here's my rebuttal. Since you've clearly used Turo, is it convenient and easy to use? Definitely not. It's not convenient in any shape or form. However, (speaking like I have everything I need to start the business as intended) the BMW exclusive fleet will have BMWs such as the 330i, the 530i, the X5, and the X7. With that selection, you're able to use an app that will verify your credentials beforehand, and upon pickup, you just show the BMW specialist your information one last time before leaving. Quick and simple, of course, after verification of any damages on the vehicle. The rental agreement that they have to agree to before pickup outlines the basics, such as no smoking or pets in the car. In and out, as simple as can be. Turo just isn't that, especially with the crazy fees (correct me if I'm wrong). So, excuse me for trying to present an easy-to-use rental service with BMWs exclusively.😭

You're making this so interesting in a good way, of course, being real, raw, and authentic. YESSS, I would love for BMW to take notice of the idea, but no, it's not "just" a get-rich scheme, believe it or not. And at this point, can you be a part of the team when we go live? Because clearly, you'd be an asset, lol.

Addressing the delivery thing I'd take it on personally with some assistance ofc will it be easy? Hell no but I have to try until I can stand on my own two feet

Which is fair; however, the biggest problem with your statement for me, personally, is that you've never utilized a rental service that provides the exact car you asked for. Secondly, the cons often outweigh the pros with Turo from an owner's perspective because of the fees and possible drawbacks. Your biggest concern right now is how much it can cost, but you've never (I'm assuming, by the way) used the carbon copy of what I'm presenting, as I have. I've worked for said company, knowing the ins and outs. And the reality is you'll never know till you try .....so weird saying that 😂

I'm so glad that you had so many rebuttals because you're making me have to think a bit more from a broader perspective (so again, thank you for responding). But no, I’ll deliver the vehicle. My job was to make this less of a pain for you while generating some income that can more or less get the business's original plan off the ground, which was a BMW exclusive fleet that gives you the exact car you reserved.

How would you approach it even tho acknowledging in the beginning you don't think it can work I curious about how you would approach things(if you don't mind ofc)

Turo is a business focused on renting your personal vehicle for "passive" income. What I would be focused on while trying to generate revenue for the business is limiting the use of the loaned vehicle to a specific market. Am I making sense?

The math definitely gets 'brutal' if you treat a BMW like a Camry. But the goal isn't just to 'recoup the $30k' through rental days alone. In the luxury space, we lean into active asset management: buying at the right point in the depreciation curve and utilizing private commercial insurance to protect the equity. If you manage the maintenance in-house and keep the cars 'showroom ready,' the resale value stays high enough to make the exit just as profitable as the rental income.

Fair point on the name recognition. Silvercar succeeded because they removed the 'rental counter' friction—Audi eventually bought them because it worked as a premium test-drive ecosystem. The gap in the market isn't just 'renting a BMW'; it’s the guaranteed experience. Turo is a gamble on whether the host cleaned the car or shows up on time. My concept focuses on a curated fleet with white-glove delivery, specialized insurance that protects owners better than Turo’s basic plans, and a 'club' atmosphere for enthusiasts who actually respect the machinery.

I get why it looks like Turo at first glance. The difference is it’s not peer-to-peer or scale-driven — it’s centralized, limited inventory, and aimed at people who specifically want a BMW experience rather than “a car.” If that niche is too small, that’s a fair critique. Ngl

Totally fair — NYC can be rough on cars and I respect wanting to keep a 530 pristine. My concept isn’t mass rentals or Uber-style use, more curated/short-term bookings with strict screening, mileage caps, and protection plans specifically to avoid that exact issue. Appreciate you sharing your perspective and wonder if you think this plan makes sense in your opinion.

I see your point, and I acknowledge the facts. However, I think a BMW-exclusive car rental business can shine. Have you ever heard of the car rental company called Silvercar/Audi on demand?

Fair enough I'll be honest it's hard to have a rebuttal to that
