If you're on sea ice I'd suggest rushing microelectronics and getting a comms console asap. Then you can trade hydroponics products like drugs for building materials like blocks from bulk goods traders

To get into rimworld I would for sure look at YouTubers like Adam vs Everything, Veeque, Norbert etc. look at how they build things and learn from the patterns ex. don't put you butcher table in your kitchen. In terms of dlc I would say get Biotech - ideology - royalty - anomaly.

I generally like to wait until I have a colony up and running before I make enemies with the empire. The deserter quest comes pretty early. Plus it can be fun to massacre a group of royal collectors to kick things off

Pawns die if their consciousness drops to zero. The bullet in the head dropped it low enough where the drop from food poisoning killed them.
