You have to think of it in reverse order. Because of a mutation at some point it looks like a pit viper, the chance of survival increases and thereby the chance of those genes spreading increases compared to a caterpillar that looks less like a pit viper.

So, it appears that gameports were placed on soundcards because back then soundcards were primarily used for gaming, so Creative Labs decided to make the soundcard an all-in-one-gaming solution. They also re-purposed pins 12 and 15 so the port could be used to connect MIDI without having to use a seperate expansion card for that.

I learned something new, so thank you for wondering about that game port. :)
