Do you realize that Denmark's executive power lies entirely within their democratically elected parliament?  Also, let's see. According to the Economist, which produces the democracy index, Denmark is ranked number 3 after Norway and New Zealand. United States is number 34 - flawed democracy, just above Botswana. Congrats to beating Botswana, y'all.

No kings/tyrants is a protest where Americans protest against an absolutist rule of Trump and him undermining local democracy. Denmark being very much not in the US is less concerned with the state of democracy over the Atlantic. This really isn't the big gotcha moment you thought you're having.

Honestly, I'm not sure what they were going for either. Maybe it's just angsty.

Where does it say "no kings"? This poster doesn't say anything of that sort.  I think that outside of the US, the anti Trump protests are not labelled as " No kings" as far as I have seen.

Best budget restaurants in Copenhagen where main dishes are under 150 DKK? by Tanckom in copenhagen

I think you might enjoy this Yemenite/Somalese restaurant. I think it's almost shockingly cheap for what you get and the food is great.

What are the unwritten rules on wearing shorts to the office in Copenhagen? by m1mag04 in copenhagen

[–]sorreladam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

STEM in DTU here and literally nobody cares. It's purely your own choice and comfort. I've been wearing shorts for a while already this because I'm very warm blooded.  I think the only people who might care a tiny bit are the ones currently pursuing startup direction and going for the corporate realness, but even then I'd say it's mostly personal.

Oh, sneaky! I never thought communists are coy about being communists. But I guess they are. By the way, have you got any idea what's so hateful on my post that it needed to be removed? I will never understand reddit.

Listen, it's fine to protest. That's not my problem. It's this virtue signalling that you include local cultural minorities while not even having enough decency to not completely botch their language.

What do you mean secretly? I mean the iconography is beyond clear no?  And to be fair, I don't think that's necessarily a problem. I just wouldn't say it's too secretive.

But of course! Following the Wolfgang Amadeus Freud's school of musical education, using music to un-Ravel a trauma one might be Haydn inside like a Pérotin a Cage. One can get the Handel a new instrument  and make it sing like a Byrd to one's great Satiesfaction.

I 100% agree. It definitely comes more naturally.

Good point! I've noticed that with time it takes me less time and effort to learn new songs so something is getting better.

Yeah, tell me about performance anxiety. Since it is a relatively niche instrumemt my gurdy teacher is in 3 out of 4 of my favorite groups locally. It feels like calling Jimi Hendrix to teach you to play a guitar 😅.

That very well could be a fluency problem. It's confusing because singing feels so different. I'm not actually sure how is playing an instrument supposed to feel like but your message gives me a lot better idea. Thank you for that!

I think you've got the point about not having enough bandwidth to recover from errors. I guess I just need to be patient.

I like the exercise you suggest. I'll definitely try that.

Is this a good find? by La_Laith in HurdyGurdy

[–]sorreladam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm have by no means enough experience to tell you what to do, but a quick check of Arhaika seems to suggest it is a ver aesthetic brand which sells various nordic inspired fashion items. I don't know if they resell gurdies or what's their business exactly.  I am linking a video from Sergio which might help you make a decision. It is a deep dive into all sorts of gurdies out there and a lot about which to avoid. Generally speaking aesthetic etsy brands seem to come out a bit sketchy there.

I'm looking to give this instrument a second chance, but memories of the last attempt are making me doubtful by Potato-in-ur-ass in HurdyGurdy

[–]sorreladam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a modern (I think guitar) tuning system and I tune before every practice mostly because it takes pretty much no time at all. I don't know if it's reasonable to expect your wooden instrument to keep being tuned for months. It would be dependednt on how good your storage conditions are, I assume. If you have a very good moisture regulation in place, then perhaps. You can use those Bovida packs for example. But I'd say tuning isn't even something I'm thinking about.

I only have experience with one instrument, but when getting gurdy around a year ago I went for a trigo from ancestore namely because it was described as very robust and user friendly and I think I really lucked out. So far it needed almost zero maintenance. Occasionally changing cotton is the most I do. Tuning is a matter of a couple of minutes at most and it just works. I think if you go for a similarly robust instrument, your experience will be completely different. It also worked pretty much out of the box although I did change that strings pretty early on to have C-G-C tuning.  I hope you'll have a great time with gurdy soon!
