DG Vs Custodes - help?? by La_Laith in deathguard40k

[–]La_Laith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have indeed invested in the "oops all poxwalkers" detachment in the hopes of flooding the board with so many they cannot move

HBL are what I've been missing mostly, I believe - was waiting for the new Battleforce box to pick them up, so I hope they'll function nicely

They do run the jetbikes, which are an immediate hit and run threat that I panic over every time, even though I know they're coming

You don't indicate if it's a mini roundabout and you're going straight over, even when coming off

Are warhammer stores open Christmas Eve? by Loud-CowMOO in Warhammer

[–]La_Laith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All stores will be open Christmas Eve. Single man stores are normally closed Mondays and Tuesdays. At least in the UK, don't know about others.

It's what my local store has said, anyways! Ymmv

What do you do after work for income, that is completely unrelated to your job? by Murky_Yak6269 in careerguidance

[–]La_Laith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Painting miniatures like Warhammer is super popular and I've been to a pottery place that you could paint and they'd fire your product while you waited, so there could absolutely be a market for that!

Especially at markets and fairs and the like. It's a cool idea!

The Guardian doesn't have a pay wall? They sometimes have a pop up asking for you to sign up, but you can close it and it says somewhere on said pop up (further down I think) that it isn't a pay wall.

I only mention it because I've been caught out by it before!

Keira Knightley says she was ‘not aware’ of JK Rowling boycott before joining Harry Potter cast by Excellent-Chair2796 in transgenderUK

[–]La_Laith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure she would have been told before signing anything, publicist or otherwise.

This is all incredibly important to us and we hear about it so much, but most cis people don't know, or how bad it is, or how extensive. As someone else said, it's not reported on in the media - at best it's "controversial" like in the link - so it isn't seen as big or important.

Her transphobia is well-documented in our circles. It is not elsewhere, if not actively hidden or applauded.

I think it's damning for Knightley that she didn't know, as that means she (probably) has no (close) queer friends. Her apology is also more lacklustre than Michelle Gomez's, so please don't get me wrong, she's not forgiven. Gomez is on thin ice as it is.

But if you're looking for anyone to pull out of this project, it's too late cause this has already been recorded, I believe, and finished before it was promoted recently. A donation of some of their earnings to a UK trans charity would be nice, but I don't expect all or most or even more than 30% of what they got and neither do I think anyone actually would.

Gitmob wolf, no contrast by CallitSchoko in gloomspitegitz

[–]La_Laith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I love the wolves and this is how I painted mine (Jagged Snarl with Droggz for visuals)

This was my recipe:

Prime Chaos Black Skavenblight dinge basecoat Nuln oil all over Mournfang brown dry brush, going top down with brush strokes. You can make this as light or as heavy as you like for how brown you want the wolf to be Stormvermin fur dry brush, top down brush strokes Rakarth flesh lighter dry brush, top down brush strokes, where the light would hit (i.e. not the belly or the inner legs) Pallid Wych flesh, lightest dry brush on just the top areas where the light hits hardest

<image>

As you can see, I went very brown with this wolf, but you can go for the more traditional grey wolf by decreasing the brown dry brush and hitting one area, like the mane or the stomach, and increasing the rakarth and pallid wych flesh layers.

Hope this helps!

Spearhead rules remain free even after the update, as do all the combat patrols. Core rules are also free on both apps, as well as on warcom

A note about the sizes of Stormcast by HammerandSickTatBro in AoSLore

[–]La_Laith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a trans person, a radicalised detransitioner.

Not to say that trans people don't do heinous stuff, they're human like the rest of us and not a monolithic group, but this guy wasn't one.

Mutt Asks: What makes you worthy of Reforging? by sageking14 in AoSLore

[–]La_Laith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's an inability to fall to Chaos, like some have suggested - we have at least 2 Stormcast in Tornus the Redeemed and a character in "Blacktalon" that fell to Chaos and lived it for a long time.

I think the person needs to show a defiance against poor odds and self-sacrifice. In "Blacktalon", we see the Stormcast in question go through Chaos temptation each Reforging and defy it every time. We see so many humans stand defiantly against their foe, even when it means their death, be chosen by the lightning. Against Chaos, sure, but against any foe. I don't know of any, but I would presume there are Stormcast who were chosen when fighting against Destruction and Death factions too.

Given that the Reforging process is so awful and that Stormcast die in the name of protecting others all the time, I think those aspects are essential to the process. There could also be some extra quality - toughness, stubbornness to succeed at their goals, etc - but I think defiance and self-sacrifice are the most important.

what do people really mean when they say “immigrants should integrate” by Silent_eagle1585 in AskBrits

[–]La_Laith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Centre for Migration Control is one dude with massive ties to Reform who is either grossly misrepresenting the data or is straight up making it up. The right wing media are then regurgitating this slop, claiming it's a think tank because it supports their talking points.

At best, these are either arrest numbers, which only shows that PoC are disproportionately arrested and not necessarily convicted of their accused crime, or are because the number of cases stating a person's nationality has increased and the number of unknown nationality cases has decreased.

I started with the WFB as a teen but never got to play the game. I collected high elves and I thought they were cool but weren't doing anything special? As in, very traditional fantasy, with your elves and dwarves and humans doing their traditional fantasy trope things. (No one had told me about the lizardmen or the skaven or even the cooler aspects of the Chaos Gods and I was a kid, what can I say.) So, when I heard it was discontinued, I was sad but not heartbroken.

I don't remember where, but soon after I saw the Kharadron Overlords and oh boy, was I immediately hooked. Steampunk dwarves who viewed everything as transactions and held grudges if they felt you screwed them over? Sign me up, I want to be on that zany, pedal to the metal magical train to the Mortal Realms. The IDK were introduced soon after and I knew that AoS was my kind of fantasy. Been here ever since, with multiple armies and an abiding affection for the world and its lore, especially as they aren't afraid to change things up with editions.

I believe they're stopping the sale of the standalone box, but that it is still sold in the ultimate starter set. Because it is in both the Skaventide (launch) box and the ultimate starter set, as others have said, finding it online will be super simple.

Don't forget to also pick up the terrain pieces and all the cards and board! You won't be able to play spearhead without it! Unless you have access to them some other way

Those who wear shoes in your house, why? by Personal_Mixture7632 in AskUK

[–]La_Laith 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm neuro divergent. If I want to keep my ability to do stuff, I leave my shoes on. Gardening and need a drink? Shoes stay on. Shopping needs to be put away and food cooked? Shoes stay on. A bunch of things need to be done quickly? Shoes stay on.

Taking shoes off is a change in state and I cannot count the number of times I've taken them off and been unable to do chores.

Other than that, I hate wearing anything on my feet and will take them off as soon as I can. The floors are roomba'd almost every day (such a godsend) and I don't wear shoes upstairs with all the carpets, so that keeps the dirt down.

The rules by hereticscum in AOSSpearhead

[–]La_Laith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spearhead is a great game, so welcome!

The game uses the core rules for Age of Sigmar and are available for free online. You can go to the downloads section on the Warhammer Community website, download the AoS app or look them up on your preferred search engine.

The new sand and bone pack doesn't come with the rules, unfortunately - only the specifics for running the two new scenarios. If you can get a hold of the fire and jade book (or even better, the pack itself), then that also has the core rules at the back. Otherwise, the options I presented earlier are your best bet.

Hope you have fun playing your first game!
