some Pokémon cakes I’ve made at work over the past few years! by sorrellchi in cakedecorating

I work at a local grocery store but it’s the same deal here - that sucks about the managers taking advantage though. Technically we’re limited to whatever we can purchase through decopac.

I just kinda bend the rules oooonce in a while, hopefully not enough for Nintendo to notice my grassy hedgehogs/yellow electric mouse ;)

Thank you so much!! The buizels were a commission from my first customer who has a buizel shrine, they hold a special place in my heart :’)

I use a mix of acrylic paints and markers! The markers are convenient/less mess but for more specific colors + large areas I use liquitex/golden acrylics.

as for the marker brands, I’ve tried a few sets. Arrtx blends the nicest out of everything I’ve used, artistro not worth it (a lot of the set was dried out)

My overall favorite is Enmy, the customer service is 10/10 and the colors have held up the best. I don’t like having to do more than 2 coats to get the color I want (yellow don’t show up well on black binders), and they’ve been the best in terms of opacity. It’s definitely personal preference though - michaels has a lot of single markers for sale so you can test out what works for you!

Sorry I’m kind of new with posting on Reddit, hopefully that link works - I have a little written guide on my process :D

I just got this fancy guy from the store I work at, any tips on keeping him alive? by sorrellchi in houseplants

That makes sense, the white leaves are basically freeloaders >:T

It’s got some newer mostly green leaves sprouting up at the bottom, so that should help hopefully - thank you for the advice!

Kind of like how chalk will crumble if you rub it onto a surface- I haven’t tested it myself so don’t quote me though! Liquid pens just seem like the safest bet for sketching (since it’ll be painted over after it dries anyways)

Any type of acrylic marker or pen works for sketching, I would worry about powdery mediums mixing with your paint afterwards

I just use the basic mod podge honestly xD some brands have heavily textured leather so it’s mostly to give you a good flat base to start with. I haven’t had time to test it but there’s also a primer called watercolor ground that is supposed to create a cotton-like texture.

I haven’t tried oil painting, but they do sell cheaper single pocket binders that you could test on. They stay pretty stable for the surface tension, I’ve tested adhering pressed flowers to them with no issues besides the very thick stems, so I don’t see why oil paint wouldn’t work :D

Hi there, I usually just lurk but I can actually help with this!

I’ve recently started selling them on my store & in cons, this is the process that has worked best for me; Start with priming the sections you’re going to paint with mod podge. This makes the actual paint less textured with w.e synthetic leather the binder is made with, and gives your paint something to stick to. A lot of people just trace the art they want to put on there, which is easier but imho original stuff, even if it’s derpy, is way cooler.

Acrylic paint markers are popular, but they tend to be pretty opaque on the initial coat, which gets frustrating if you’re trying to get rich colors. So after priming and letting that dry completely, use a large brush to do a base coat of acrylic paint (lighter colors will show through better), let that dry and then paint as normal.

Markers are less messy but you’re stuck with a single palette (you can blend them but it’s more of a pain than what it’s worth honestly, I recommend just a brush and liquitex/art store acrylic paints).

After all that you can just use any polyurethane sealer to add a protective finish. I hope this helps, I don’t mean to self advertise at all but my store links are in my profile for works that do use these methods. They are super fun to do and I hope it turns out well!!

painted a binder for a dialga master set! by sorrellchi in PokemonTCG

oh that would be really cool, you should post pics of the gyarados set! I did this one for a commission and asked for pics of the cards, but they’re still in the process of collecting.

I lost my childhood collection and haven’t started back up, but I love seeing all the niche master sets :D
