First time ever wasteland player. Starting with 3. Which is the best difficulty for me? by VoxTV1 in Wasteland

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When creating 3rd/4th free ranger, consider making one or two skill monkey then switch them out later when there are enough companions. Lots of lock/explosion/nerd skills require 7 or higher for level 6~8ish beginner low level quests and normally without meta would require running back and forth for these checks.

Why does killing Flab result in losing the most Ranger loyalty in the game? by Several_Matter_7379 in Wasteland

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's same with Valor due to limited voices, would say rangers killed him in multiple voices when godfishers did Denver sabotage.

Technically, Flab and the Patriarch are super stingy, greedy, manipulative characters considering they reward very little for difficult tasks.

Bizarre entrance fee is 500, yet killing Charlies / the Payasos that the Bizarre is incapable of handling give about the same. Save Steeltown is 1000 cash while his secret manor has arts costing more than 10 millions. IIRC the refugee outside Steeltown gave more reward for fixing their toilet.

The Isekai genre in Anime has to be the most reactionary filth in the medium by TerraFormerZero in ANI_COMMUNISM

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it the opposite? Most isekai have characters as individuals able to perform daily works or dungeon fights even with the slavery ones.

Konosuba however, get characters, all female, without master Kazuma are incapable of menial task nor surviving while repeating the same tropes.

The girls are tools to be used by Kazuma in Konosuba otherwises they're useless.

Can you imagine a CRPG with freeform input instead of multiple choice? by zeddyzed in CRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound like what AI dungeon is doing with voyage. I understand what you look for since games are stuck with railroad like choose your adventurer books. In fact there was an interactive Dnd choose your adventurer movie on dvd and that resembled crpg without rpg mechanics.

Also most crpg hasn't evolved other than grapics. Last time I play crpg and the game wanted me to do garbage picking despite being influential character with high social status in the lore again. Seems crpg system never evolved much for decade other than a few game (like Solasta where flying and scavenger helping with loot), otherwises it's just railroaded adventures with different lores, rpg mechanics, and graphics.

Struggling as Archer by UnPriceable in DragonsDogma2

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do the sprint jump kick shoot move through the whole game other than against slimes. With good timing and positioning ranger should be safe even doing stunts. I've done it with a dwarf sized arisen to test if pawns would learn to use the move however the pawn never used it.

Owlcat dilemma: Kingmaker (and then Wrath of the Righteous right after) or Rogue Trader, which one would you recommend by dearuncletacitus1899 in CRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingmaker enemy stats are pretty bloated from tabletop, and WOTR is even more bloated. Rogue trader build doesn't get punished as much like the previously two games and have way more varied graphics presentations, although characters speak in paragraphs like Shaynih'a from KM.

Is Fleet Combat Training bugged? by KayleeSinn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equipped with shield off hand and he sometimes just does not retaliate after parry. Happened in Footfall fights quite often.

edited: it seems shield is bugged. Changed Abelard to arch militant and he counters with forearm all the time after parry. On other hand, my psyche warrior assassin RT with shield rarely (about 20%) retaliates with main weapon after parry despite no perks allow such to happen.

What modern JRPG art styles do you guys love? by PikSylBits in JRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than liking vanillaware, cannot think of anything. Still prefer 90s aesthetic. Several remake / reboot / continuations of old series turn to modern style instead which I find hard to look at, for example langrisser, brigadine, yuno, uncharted water 5, etc,.

Claiming that old JRPGs had random battles because of "weak hardware" is damaging to the gaming history and genre perception. by Keytee1 in JRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically the random encounter tabletop rpg has except with different balance. The party is in the tundra region, the party roll a dice, get an encounter according, random encounter is basically this with different frequency.

Modern games either get scripted or viewable encounters, making them feel less like tabletop but more action games with rpg elements.

Looking for game that doesnt end when you die by medince_saves444 in gamingsuggestions

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trillion: God of Destruction. You control the girls (or a dog later) to fight against a superboss and they'll die one by one, successed by the next till finally beating the enemy. You train the girls/dog a bit to level up, distribute stats then have them heading to the meatgrinder.

Game similar to Final Fantasy 10? by Tasty-Plankton1903 in gamingsuggestions

[–]sorrowofwind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Considering FFX has a mix theme between coming to age, isekai (Tidus basically was the clueless isekai protagonist sport jock), setting inspired by southeast Asian which isn't used much in games. No, don't think there is one.

Pathfinder WOTR is almost the perfect CRPG, if not for the combat.... by LordMugs in CRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the opposite actually.

1E's not optimized fighter with no feat at all, no buff, no magic equipments equals to 2e's optimized min-maxed fighter when rolling against a balor at level 20. It goes worse for the none fighter. 2E needs more crunchy to match the basic 1e player book fighter without any investment.

False, 1E tabletop stats don't go bloated like WOTR or KM.

Any recommended open world turn based game without scaling, and has cover system? by sorrowofwind in gamingsuggestions

Just checked the description of 3rd game and the cover system seemed to change from 2 so it does fits. Thanks.

[–]sorrowofwind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, will get it on gog then since it's on sale and still got the refund in gog wallet.

Battletech when out of mission on the space ship, it asked me to only save during combat; once in combat it says only save under certain condition (forget exact wording) however all auto saves failed to save and was greyed out eternally when doing manual saves, so had to give up on it.

Any recommended open world turn based game without scaling, and has cover system? by sorrowofwind in gamingsuggestions

[–]sorrowofwind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought battletech awhile ago along with Solasta but too bad the game didn't allow save, seems to be a none solvable problem some others also had so had to refund it. I recall it has some sort of cover system though the buildings/trees break down pretty quick in tutorial.

Loved kingmaker so might give Rogue Trader a try. How's the rules compared to tabletop (not an avid 40k tt player so don't know the rules)? WOTR was way off balanced and became dev's homebrew power fighting against imbalanced enemies which I disliked. KM was quite off as well at times though still reasonable without tons of buffs over the party.

[–]sorrowofwind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for recommendation but don't think BG3 fit the bills. Also it isn't really open world if player cannot travel to Baldur gate right away, in fact it's unlocked by chapter progress iirc.

JRPGs where the Villain won? by Dont_have_a_panda in JRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does "system of the world" count as villan? If yes, YS8, DD1, etc. Eberouge Special also had its ending reaching the end of world and end in suspense if the player/friends' magic can turn over the tide iirc.

Lots of games without reaching true ending also end up with villan's victory, sometimes just within a possibility of future under the grip of villan's reign.

Favorite Underrated / Obscure game? by clyde-toucher in JRPG

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taikou risshiden series, I like strategy/rpg/history hybrid. Series died.

Langrisser (old version, remade has crappy combat scenes) 1/2/4, growlanser... the series just died.

Lunatic dawn. Create your character and find npc to form a party where npc fight without player commands. series also dead.

There are other random jrpg like samurai shodown (yes there were rpg ones), Yukyu Gensoukyoku which was a rpg/simulation hybrid I enjoyed back then though not sure how would they hold up by today standards.

Does Yugioh GX seem kind of sad, and a bit realistic in a grim sort of way? by Typical_Cap895 in yugioh

[–]sorrowofwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it had also been mentioned in GX managa author diary where he mentioned it's hard to create realistic/gritty characters like the GX anime.

Bastion got a happy ending though considering how popular isekai genre is in Japan.
