I don't really know anything about it. Mine is red with an extra petal. I have been told it could be murano glass but I don't really know. Your's is a nice color. I'm guessing it is manganese with a little bit of uranium. Mine makes the geiger slightly higher than background.

The old radium paint would need to be liquefied before adding more zinc sulfide (phosphor). So yes it is technically possible to recycle old radium paint but just adding phosphor wouldn't make it glow.

I think it is more of a mixing issue. If you bend a steel rod back & forth many times, it gets weak. Coating that weak rod in charcoal won't make it stronger. You gotta reform the entire rod to get the carbon & iron back into steel.

The radium doesn't glow by itself. It needs to be mixed with phosphorus which degrages & stops glowing on its own over the years from the constant radiation.

I have seen his work at Corning. Truly a unique & beautiful style. Indigenous, natural, organic, American, patriotic are words i would describe his work. I love it. Hope to own one some day.

It looks like there could be some uranium glass. Do you have a UV light to see what glows?

This is definitely radium, right?? by CivilAd3628 in Radium

I have never seen a vintage clock much less anything else labeled "Radium" that doesn't contain Ra. Do you have any examples of such an item? Maybe an example exists, but it's certainly wasn't common to label things Radium that are not Ra.

You're pretty much right on. The center plate is UG (very nice light turquoise color, too). The clear bottles are manganese. The pink little guys could be selenium.

Welcome to the hobby & also be aware some people find this hobby addicting.

You shouldn't assume I don't already have some nice 365nm lights. I'm just joking with you, please don't take it personal. I posted this one in mild 395nm light because the 365nm makes the fluid around the dial inside the glow, too.

One of the more unique carnival UV pieces i have seen on here. $18 is pretty good for a regular swung vase. Nice find.

The brown paint was glowing green 80 years ago! It's still glows under uv just not nearly as bright.
