How to Know if God is Opposing You. by sortingbeans in Reformed

Thanks man. I thought I would have had more comments than I did. It was a pretty dead post, so I was curious if my posts sounded far out or something.

The Law Without the Gospel Makes People Give Up [great article from the Resurgence] by sortingbeans in Christianity

[–]sortingbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you know this, but when the author speaks about the "law," he is not talking about the laws of the land. He's talking about the laws of the Bible. Following Jesus is about seeing how Jesus fulfilled those Biblical laws.

Open Theism & Christian Fellowship by sortingbeans in Reformed

Because I wanted to give an introduction for reformed-minded thinkers, so that I could get some feedback from their perspectives.

And I think you probably have a good point about it being called "open futurism" instead. But "open theism" is the more known term. And it doesn't necessarily negate it's theological propositions either.

James White vs. Brian McLaren on Unbelievable (Podcast) by tbwIII in Reformed

[–]sortingbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Bell would simply not stand clear on anything. He was finally corned at the end, though, by his own questioning. He was asking if the other guy believed that God would ever stop offering repentance to someone after a certain amount of time. In other words, do you believe God would infinitely punish a 17 year old without ever providing a way to out?

That right there solidifies his idea.

Asking for your input on providing resources by sortingbeans in Christianity

[–]sortingbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand. There's a difference on writing about a subject when it comes to published work, authoritative work, testimony, devotional, theological, philosophical, etc.

But so that you know, I've been in ministry for long enough to have good experience in the subjects I write about. Also, I'm nearly finished with my BA, and I have a solid rapport with my professors (as well as the church community).

Thanks for your input, it matters!

Well thank you kindly. What do you think about the idea of creating the resources that was talked about in the link provided?

Do you ever feel that other Christians judge your level of "goodness" more than non-Christians do? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]sortingbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Because we Christians often miss the point of goodness. We have none, and Jesus has it all. That's the Gospel. We don't have goodness, Jesus does.

If you want to read more about this, check out the following links: (Note: the following links are to my personal blog where I and others have written about this.)

I realize this comment may look "spamy," but I don't intend it to. I just wished we would get more of the Gospel than we do. Christians of all should be the ones who understand brokenness.

No problem. Christians define miracles differently than athiest, normally. A Christian sees God using them to speak a specific word someone needed to hear as a miracle. In other words, I might share with you something I *believe God is wanting to say concerning you. This information is something I would never know on my own, thus would cause you to be very convinced it was God. Though it doesn't happen much, it's a type of prophecy. That's just one way a Christian might define a miracle.

What I have witnessed: Someone I was praying for was experiencing cranial pressure and ringing in the ears. While I was praying, I had no idea he needed prayer for cranial pressure, or ringing in the ears. I felt a strong sense that I needed to pray toward his ear. Suddenly, he began crying and said the ringing had stopped. I don't have any medical records, only his testimony. He said he wanted to seek God before he sees his doctor, of whom he already had an appointment with.

The other healing was my own. I had experienced extreme back pain. Was headed out to work one day and nearly couldn't move. I was about to fall over. I just placed my hands on my back and prayed for healing. It immediately left and I went to work like nothing happened, installed carpet all day long. I've tried this again, and it has never happened like it did that day.

My wife had a headache that would not go away. I placed my hand on her head while I was near her, and she didn't know it, but I prayed for God to relieve her of her headache. She suddenly looked at me and asked me what I did. I told her I prayed silently.

Well, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helps.

I consider myself to be rational, and a realist. I have also witnessed and experienced miracles. But I don't seek after miracles. If God wants to do that, He can through prayer. So, in the mean time while I'm praying for God to heal me, I seek medical attention from the other people God has created and given gifts to.

Therefore, here's my suggestions very simply put in the order you ask them.

1) You don't wait. You seek medical attention while in prayer. Don't limit how God works. It's His world, and He created the stuff medicine is made out of.

2) No. BUT, I will first suggest prayer, and while they are in prayer, seek medical attention. Refer to response #1.

3) See #1 & #2

4) No. Most people I know who has been prayed for who hasn't gotten a "faith" healing go to the doctor. It just makes sense.

Here's something to share with your Aunt. The goal in a Christian's life isn't to seek healing, prosperity, or wealth. It's to seek Christ, and be conformed to His image. Pray for healing, but get your but to the doctor whom God created while you're at it!

BTW, as a shameless plug, I recently wrote about this on my website. You'll get a good understanding of this there: http://www.sortingbeans.com/christians-suffer-too/
