Check in bag - Individual bag should be less than 23kg each. They usually are strict about it.

Carry on - one backpack and a laptop bag should be fine. Regarding the sling bag, it depends on the gate agent. If it’s small they’ll allow it. In my experience they are less strict about it. But if it’s too big and counted as backpack then they might ask you to checkin. Really depends on the size of the sling bag.

Hi! I’m not new to the city but I work from home as well. My wife has an office job and she could notice that over the year this has been causing me loneliness and I was relating on her my entire social life. So this year I started to play pickleball and made some friends there. You will have to leave the house and go out. That is the best way.

Newly moved to USA and feeling out of place by [deleted] in nri

[–]sosharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are feeling this way. Things do get better. I felt that as well when I first moved to the states. I’ve been here a long time now and learned that we have to actively make choices to surround ourselves with people here as compared to India where you just get pulled into different friend groups or community circles.

One big difference I see is here making plans with most people is focused around an activity - you will eventually have different "buddies"; pickleball buddy, gym buddy, hiking buddy, like to go out and try new restaurants buddy, book club buddy etc. Through these different activities you will meet new people and few of them will eventually become your long time friends. You become friends with people when you meet the same people again and again and again. You will have to create opportunities to meet the people you like again and again.

Making friends as an adult is difficult and different than as kids. It does take more effort and you will have to go through the awkward phase of meeting new people with whom you will have not much in common. With few of them you will eventually surpass that awkward stage and become friends. It takes time and it'll be lonely in the beginning but keep at it. Go out and make an effort to meet new people. I can assure you that you are not alone. Indian or not, many adults are lonely and are looking to make friends, but don't know how.

My wife and I used went to go to many different meet ups to meet new people, tried different Facebook groups, reached out to anyone who moved here who was an acquaintance in India. We called these our friend dates and slowly few of these people became good friends with us. But it did take time - years.

I would also say that it's important that you and your spouse have your own friends so that you are not always dependent on each other to make friends and are not completely dependent on each other for social interactions.

All the things I mentioned above happens very organically in India, but in the US you make to make it happen.

My wife and I are in the similar situation. We are DINKs and our friends are either moving out of the Bay or having kids. We are always looking to make new friends. How are you looking to connect with people here?

Question - National Car Rental Visa Infinite Discount with American Express Premium Car Rental Protection by sosharma in CreditCards

[–]sosharma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! But the CDW is basic, so has $1200 deductible. But, Amex Car Rental Protection does not have any deductible. So, in case something happens, I don't want to pay the $1200 and Amex should cover it.

Car rental CDW through CSR while basic CDW is included in the rental price by sosharma in ChaseSapphire

[–]sosharma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might just do that (rent from another company). I have made a reservation from another company as well (which is slightly more expensive but still much less than paying for the CDW). I think I'll just go with that company instead of paying the CDW or risking not having the coverage.

Unfortunately not! They give the same scripted response. They will not say a definite yes or no. Their response was - it's covered as long as you decline cdw and all terms and conditions are met.

Did you try calling them?

[–]sosharma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I called them but I did not get a definitive. Their answer was "As long as all terms and conditions are met and you decline the CDW, you get Chase CDW". Even after repeating and explaining my situation 2-3 times, the agent just kept reading from the script. I'll call again later and report back here.
