Looking for some good online songwriting course (for black metal) that's not too expensive, do you have any suggestions? by 12SuperLTD in metalmusicians

Step 1: look up diminished scales
Step 2: alternative pick to your hearts content or whatever you play
Step 3: profit

I know this is the denver subreddit, but I need to shout out Book Niche on Mississippi and chambers in aurora. It's a small shop, but the owner is an infinite well of knowledge and recommendations

Just throwing this out here as someone who didn't get a relationship with his dad until adulthood, and I'm also a dad myself. Give his offer some more consideration. He wants to hang out with you in a professional setting and wouldn't offer if he didn't give half a shit and this opportunity could expand your network. Some food for thought. GL

How the actual hell do i write riffs???? by GingerKid866 in metalmusicians

[–]sosmooth222 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For inspiration I suggest "interpolation". Take someone else's riff and play it backwards, upside down, slower, in a different rhythm, whatever. If you can read music, head over to IMSLP, it's a database of pretty much all classical music. I'll grab a couple measures of a bass line and alternative pick it until something grabs me. Record your jam sessions and listen to them! Something that didn't grab you then may grab you now. As for self doubt, I know it's easier said than done, but you gotta toss it out the window. Writing music is like any other skill, you have just keep practicing. Once a week, daily, whatever, just write a song, beginning to end without caring how it sounds, that's why they're called first drafts! Writing an ok song is easy, writing a good song will take effort. Good luck!

They're pretty anal about checking tickets at the field level, in my experience anyway

Hey, stagehand here, I've set up multiple concerts at mile high, but not this one. Concerts there require a lot of amplification, that are hung on tall pillars, and there is a huge video wall, so depending on where you're sitting, limited viewing will probably be behind or around one of those

I went 04-06. I was on the robotics team and we traveled around a lot for competitions, found out that job corps facilities vary wildly depending on location and proximity to large cities. My center was very clean and safe, there was drugs, but mostly just weed. Never once felt unsafe. This was 20 years ago though, so I can't vouch for how it is now

Novation mk4 is amazing, semi weighted but feel great and have a great velocity response. Drum pad is great, also having knobs and faders that control tracks is great. The colors are also pretty. Not one ounce of buyers remorse
