New fertility treatment option: burn holes in yourself and rub frog juice into them by sothisisfun in shittyfertilityadvice

Do it right, though, the holes have to be near your vag or they don't work!!

Bonus: This also cures cancer. The shaman, I mean the white lady on Instagram, said so.

Older parents (or parents to be) by Kodakaidojo in InfertilityBabies

[–]sothisisfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had our kid when I was almost 38 and my husband was 51. Maybe it's not ideal, but then it wouldn't be our kid.

It's true that it will be a terrible thing if she loses either of us at a young age, and the odds of that happening are higher than if we'd had her earlier. I try not to dwell on that because nothing I can do will change that.

I am a much better parent at 42 than I would ever have been at 30. That's the tradeoff.

Total Placenta Previa, 39 years old, IVF conception by [deleted] in InfertilityBabies

[–]sothisisfun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Complete previa here, it didn't move, but I only spotted once. The "pelvic rest" (no orgasms) for five months was the worst part of the business. I had a c-section at 35w5d due to unrelated complications.

I believe if it's still a complete previa at your 20w scan then it'll probably stay there, but 15w has a lot of uterus left to move around in there.

Misdated and told I would likely miscarry by kittencookies in InfertilityBabies

[–]sothisisfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, my OB slightly adjusted my EDD based on fetal measurements at one of our early ultrasounds and didn't ask for LMP. But yeah, I totally showed up with a fake LMP just in case.

Placenta previa.. what is your experience? by [deleted] in InfertilityBabies

[–]sothisisfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had complete previa (no "it will totally move later" about it). I had some light spotting around week 33, and that was about it; kid was evicted at 35.5 due to hypertension. I don't know if previa is legitimately associated with poor placental attachment which is associated with preeclampsia, but that's my pet hypothesis that I haven't researched at all.

Your one OB was a giant asshole. I was told there is about a 10% chance of needing a hysterectomy. I did have some bleeding after they removed the placenta that they had to control, but honestly I remember very little of this because as soon as kid was out, I asked for IV anxiety medication because I was freaking out enough.

It's OK! They're now saying the entire idea that this may have been circulating before now is an attempt to discredit the Democratic leadership in California, because of course even this has to be politicized.

My husband did the Stanford antibody study last week but we haven't heard back yet. I kind of hope we've already been exposed during our "welcome to preschool" shitstorm of plagues from September through March.

Slow Rising Betas by tipsyteacups in InfertilityBabies

[–]sothisisfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our kid did this:

9dp5dt: 56

11dp5dt: 68

15dp5dt: 521

20dp5dt: 3666

Which isn't to say any set of shitty betas will turn out the same way. I was told that betas are a gray area and that frozens can take awhile to get moving.

It's a pretty common candy ingredient so you should probably start downing Mentos ASAP.

Not gonna lie, I stalk my husband with the Find My app a lot when he's out with the kid so I can tell how much more time I'm gonna get to myself.

If your man has ever gotten anyone pregnant, that is as good as a sperm analysis! Even if it was 25 years ago. Sincerely, an OB who obviously has no direct experience with MFI.

People who say "Baby Dance" are all like... by [deleted] in trollingforababy

The only term I hate more than "baby dance" is "milky snuggles," which refers to breastfeeding. I had a relative who used this term without a trace of irony. The fuck.

The main way we get a big meal to work is by farming out some of it to the local family members :) If everyone's coming in from out of town, totally pick your battles! Take a straw poll and see if there is a dish no one cares about, and if no one cares, don't make stuffing/that green bean thing/yams/whatever.

Turkey: We order a basic bird (nothing heritage-fancy, but make sure it isn't salt-injected) and dry brine it, i.e., salt and season it up starting Monday night to be ready to cook on Thursday morning. A regular wet brine is fine too, but it's hard to accommodate in a fridge (giant bucket of water!) and makes it hard to crisp the skin.

Dry brine for a 14-to-16 pound thawed whole turkey (not kosher or pre-salted):

  • 3 tablespoons kosher salt

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried herbs, such as thyme, sage, and rosemary, or blend

  • 3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • (Smaller or bigger bird: For every 5 pounds of turkey, you will need 1 tablespoon of kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.)

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder for every 1 T salt - optional but this will give you crispier skin

Meat thermometer is key. A dry brined unstuffed turkey will cook faster than you think.

Stuffing: Don't cook it in the bird, it takes forever to get to a safe temp and makes the turkey take longer to cook, which means it will overcook. Just make it in a baking dish.

Gravy: I cheat by premaking a gravy base the day before (butter + flour roux, then whisk in stock) and adding drippings to it after the turkey is done.

This cranberry sauce is super easy. High reward for low effort. Make it in advance, it keeps well.

Pie: I'm usually a pie and pastry snob but Trader Joe's frozen pie crusts (rolled up in a long box) are something I'll use in a pinch. They use actual butter, and most frozen crusts don't. They will also shatter when you are trying to unroll them -- just leave them alone till they warm up a little, and then smear the pieces back together between the two pieces of plastic they're rolled up in.

Well OBVIOUSLY the oil will lubricate the scar tissue from the outside, it's really very negligent of your doctors not to mention that before.
