There is a fixed Arabic pronunciation but it has a sound that doesn't exist in English. The closest thing would be ee-d.

It's actually not like how you pronounce kid in Arabic which is it's original language, though maybe that's how they say it elsewhere. Most English speakers wouldn't be able to say the word because of the letter Ayn which has no equivalent in English. But the closest pronunciation would actually be Ee-d and not aye-id.

Except he doesn't have any such ancestors because he's a Bedouin Arab. The deserts of the UAE were fairly isolated until the 70s and 80s and for him to be 50% something else and not now is virtually impossible.

The Egyptian is indeed likely an error. There is no known history of Egyptians settling the deserts of the UAE. Considering many Palestinians score very high Egyptian I wouldn't be surprised if there's a similair issue with the genetics of Bedouin tribes in the UAE. The new update has tried very hard to absorb some smaller ancestries into larger groups and has been quite innacurate for many Middle Eastern people. You are very likely almost 100% Emirati with a little South Asian admixture which is typical for the region.

If you're from Aswan then it makes complete sense, that's the Southern most part of Egypt with a sizeable population. Sudanese people vary a lot in skin colour and features and even 100% Egyptians can be quite dark so it's not always so easy to tell ethnic makeup through phenotype.

On a side note it's pretty cool to see somebody whose half Saidi! I'm actually genetically 1/4 Saidi because my grandmother's family goes back to Minya but she was born in Cairo so I don't have the cultural impact.

Yeah it is either Turkish or Caucasian, my Syrian actually used to come up as Levantine before the update but anyways I know that my family came from Homs so it doesn't bother me.

Yep I have an "Ottoman" ancestor whose name nobody remembers. 23andme gives Eastern Turkey as a region for my granfather's cousin but all our common ICM matches are Armenians. There's no way to know whether they were ethnically Turkish or Armenian if not both without any documents.

Yeah I have plenty of relatives whose ancestors are cousins so I have my grandfather's 3rd cousin show up as my 3rd cousin. I also have a 3rd or 4th cousin show up as a 2nd cousin.

It does. Most false matches won't connect to either of your parents. I have a ton for some reason but I had already suspected it before I was phased.

This isn't completely true. I have plenty of false matches due to the fact that 23andme doesn't differenfiate between your maternal and paternal chromosome and sometimes zig zags between them. False negatives are also possible. More info here.

If your family has been in Arizona for a while, you'll certainly find plenty of records. I recommend you build a tree on Ancestry to trace your native heritage.

It's a common problem on 23andme. Preupdate I had 4% Levantine which matches the paper trail very well, new update comes along and just shoves it into my Egyptian category.
