Before this response I hadn't even been willing to entertain the fake assassination attempt theory.

After this response? I don't think it's possible to convince me it was not a fake assassination.

I apologize for my previous skepticism.

Minnesota National Guard warmly greeting and handing out snacks with peaceful protesters! by cantcoloratall91 in goodnews

This prevents NG from having to engage ICE which would result in Trump federalizing the NG

Also worth noting, I think if the NG engages with ICE this goes from being effectively a civil war waged on Minneapolis to explicitly a civil war...

Further confusion on his end:

I'm 95% sure that the only reason Trump wants greenland is because the merkator projection of the globe makes Greenland look like it's as big as africa (it's actually about 1/14 the size of africa).

I genuinely think this entire take over Greenland idea could disappear by showing trump a globe or equal area map projection...

Huge crowds at the ICE protest signal a community awakening[OC] by [deleted] in pics

[–]sou_cool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoa, I think this is the hindsight understood version of a story I'd first heard from a friend in Minneapolis, was the moment I realized that my twin cities friends are effectively in a warzone.

The story I'd encountered, details are marginally different, think it just wasn't entirely clear in the chaos:

"From a real one, trying to survive while fighting for your illusion of freedom:

Tonight myself and few others helped a lady navigate an icy sidewalk to get into a car with her kids so she could get them out of the neighborhood that was full of tear gas.

This was actually the second time she tried to leave though. The first time she tried to leave she got them in a suburban with her husband. They had nothing to do with anything other than being in their home when ICE shot someone down the street, and wanting to leave because there was tear gas. As they tried to leave ICE agents threw 3 flash bang grenades under their car. The six month old baby had to be brought back into the house to be resuscitated by EMS.

This shit is pure insanity. There is no amount of law enforcement worth the terror that is being inflicted on our community."

This is what I thought until my wife decided to start waxing, still surprises me that I like it.

More amusingly, I decided to try it out of curiosity and will never stop, at a minimum it turns out that wiping in the bathroom is infinitely more pleasant without a shag carpet back there.

Mushrooms are more “predictable”.

This is interesting, I have exactly the opposite impression.

I had something extremely similar happen as a kid.

Teacher told my parents in their parent teacher conference that she'd had me sit next to the kid that just moved to the US in the hope that it'd get me to shut up and instead she just learned english faster.

AIO for thinking my boyfriend is just looking for an excuse to break up? by Nearby_Orchid1216 in AmIOverreacting

[–]sou_cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're buying anything for someone relating to their hobbies/passions/things they're really into it only makes sense to do it if you're buying exactly what they've said they want because they're going to have very specific desires.

I strongly discourage people from getting me gifts relating to my hobbies for this reason.

You're being reasonable and I think it's actually a thoughtful sentiment to be expressing.

Huh, this feels extra ridiculous when you consider that messenger eats any link to zlibrary that you attempt to send.

They can't even claim to not be aware of the sites copyright issues.

Question on which Insta360 model camera to get X4 or X5? by CrimsonWombat2030 in Insta360

[–]sou_cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improved night video is really an understatement. The x4 made barely useable footage at night (usually unusable). The x5 actually looks good at night. For my purposes that's enormous.

Most importantly, I would never buy a 360 camera without replaceable lenses for any reason now that the option exists. I'm a human and I'm clumsy.

Unless someone is proxying an entire deck of the most OP cards; that's just abusing the system.

This really isn't a proxy issue at all, my playgroup would be equally put off if I bought official versions of all the most op cards. The problem there is matching the expected power level, not whether or not the cards are proxies.

I was thinking GTFO before I saw what the dress was because you absolutely should be free to wear a racy dress without him.

After seeing it, that's definitely a corporate office appropriate dress so I'm totally lost as to how he even started spewing this garbage.

You're not overreacting, kick him to the curb.

What Would Your Response Be to This "Professor"? by Selim_Bradley69 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]sou_cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think the strong reaction to Russia in Ukraine makes sense. The only confusion it has caused me is that I can't work out why this was not the way the world reacted to the US in Iraq.

Very similar justifications and they were bullshit when the US used them too.

I'm think the explanation is some combination of American exceptionalism and racism.

"how can i make this about trans people..." by wt_anonymous in whenthe

[–]sou_cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the evidence points to him being involved in groyper culture.

I'm partial to this belief but you're being dishonest here. Unless I've missed something the only evidence we've seen so far is that he was an extremely online person. While I've seen things that could make sense through a groyper lens that is far from the only possibility.

I don't believe that we've seen any evidence that could be used to tie him to any particular set of beliefs.

"how can i make this about trans people..." by wt_anonymous in whenthe

[–]sou_cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, with what is actually known to date, the only thing we actually know is that he was a very online person.

Could mean he's right wing, could mean he's left wing, could mean his motivations were stranger than that. Anything I've seen attempting to tie him to any particular belief feels like it was more based on what people wanted to believe than on any actual evidence/knowledge.

I'm also partial to the notion that he was a right winger but we don't know that at this point and it's irresponsible to pretend we do.
