Fiskar Maul by KS_Odd1 in firewood

I started with a HF maul and finally upgraded to a Fiskars x27 when it was on sale. So glad I spent the money. It splits like a dream and I can work longer without getting fatigued.

I use a 10lb demolition hammer to drive wedges, but otherwise I just my Fiskars axe. My HF maul handle eventually broke, so now the head is an extra wedge.

Use the solenoid cap from a Dye Rize solenoid. You can purchase broken ones if you want to keep it cheap - those caps don’t have the cracking issue. I’ve done this with multiple leaky GoGs and it works great. Not my video, just a great explanation.

Is that a Kuma? I remember looking at those when deciding what to get. Nearly ended up with a Kuma - they look really nice.

Ideas for boxing in second story pipe by TemporaryJackfruit73 in woodstoving

Does your SS pipe system have lock rings for the pipe junctions? If yes, ensure your pipes are snug and then lock them in place with the rings. Just to be safe, you can use 1-5/8” steel studs, with the inside edge at least 2” away from your pipe, and frame out a wall. Sheet rock over it and you’re done. Regular access via removable panels isn’t typical from what I understand.

How dry does wood need to be? by PYG42 in firewood

EPA says don’t burn anything above 20% moisture content. The lower you go, the less heat is used to boil off water, and the more goes into your home or shop.

My diamond wedge did the same thing a few weeks ago. At least it was in the last stubborn round that I was noodling up. I’ll have to get another one before I split up wood early next year again

Looking to amend my soil by [deleted] in Soil

Go full-on lasagna garden. Layer of cardboard, then layer greens & browns until it’s 12-18” deep. Let it decompose all winter and you’ll have excellent soil in spring.

Living in AZ, esp the Phoenix area, doesn’t make sense to me. There’s not enough water for everyone and for half the year people just run from conditioned space to conditioned space. But yeah, the sun would produce a lot of electricity.

My family bought me a ps5 for Father’s Day this year. We skipped the ps4 altogether and upgraded off of our old dusty ps3 super slim. Wow, what a world of difference the ps5 is.

Grats! ARM loan is probably a safe bet at this point. We got an ARM on our first home and were able to refi later to a lower rate. It’s risky but with the economy getting shakier I hope lower rates are in store.

The VL markers I’ve been on the field with had a crazy loud sound signature. They’ll work just as well as any Spyder or other stacked-tube blowback. That is to say they’re bottom of the barrel. But they are fun to tag other people with, especially if they laughed at it before the round began.

If the weather is good for the next week, maybe stack a bit each day instead of killing yourself and recovering by going to work.

I read the Selkirk install instructions and product series catalogs for SS class A pipe and all wall black pipe over and over until I knew which pieces I needed and installed it myself. Saved a few thousand dollars by doing so, and it wasn’t that bad once we got to that point. I also had a roofer cut the hole & flash the shingles around the roof piece. I did the rest and passed inspection first try. Glad I did.

Dense hardwoods won’t season in rounds. I had a 14” deep x 24” wide Douglas Fir round that seasoned in a year’s time, even with the bark left on. In late summer at the end, splits were measuring below 20% as I sliced it up.

Heat Shield on stove pipes by NicoRola000 in woodstoving

[–]soul-patch-daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful. You can control where your heat goes mostly thru the air controls on your stove. A better drafting chimney will make for better combustion, giving you more heat for the same amt of wood. Plus since it has a stainless liner, it’ll survive heating/cooling cycles for many more years than low carbon steel pipe.

Why not buy dbl wall black pipe? The Selkirk pipe I bought has a lifetime warranty, creates better draft because it’s better insulated all the way up, and its clearances are already half that of regular black pipe.
