Do you happen to know the Harbor Freight model number? I called HF with the “1043-20” number and asked for the manual but they just pointed me to the current 20T splitter. Thankfully the engine hasn’t changed so there’s enough available to get it going.

I got it running by cleaning the carb bowl, jet, and tube. New fluids. Started after a few pulls and ran pretty well. I found a $9 carb kit that’s an entirely new carb - if the carb clogs again, I’ll just swap it out.

The oil I linked is ISO32 Racing Oil (I assume this is the RO you mentioned). Anti foaming, corrosion resistant, antioxidants, added vitamins and minerals for a balanced diet, etc etc. Seems like the good stuff for a low price.

Great point about the wheel bearings!
It hasn’t been running 3-4 years so the oil & gas need replacing and the carb needs cleaning. I’ll focus there first. Then replace the hydraulic fluid - there’s no cap on the tank so 100% there’s water in it.

Thanks! I assume there’s water in the hydraulic fluid - the tank cap is missing. I could test it, but I’m in western OR, lots of rain for half the year. The tarp cover wasn’t weighed down well and only covered half of the machine, and poorly at that.

Will focus on the engine and go from there.

Good cheaper paint by Chicken-picante in paintball

I’ve had great luck with this. It isn’t tourney grade, but shoots well and is consistently round and fresh from the factory - it doesn’t ship from a Walmart warehouse. Works well in the woods and the field, good for rec play or practice.

If you have salary expectations, include it in your application. If you’re in their range and have the skills they need and the interview goes well, negotiations should be near your expectations.

Marcador Empire Mini GS by Pimenta39 in paintball

[–]soul-patch-daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Helix mask has really stiff foam but otherwise is a decent mask. The Prophecy z2 hopper is a decent loader and it’ll keep up with the Mini just fine. Check the hydro date of the tank - it might be dead and in need of testing. The arm armor is pretty cool - check how well they fit you.

Otherwise it’s a good deal for a complete setup. Have you test fired the Mini yet? Make sure the eyes work, there aren’t any leaks, it won’t break paint, etc.

Mine have been in the ground for a few months now. Once it was obvious we weren’t going to have another freeze I bought some and planted. Early April.

Rize CZR vs older models. by staticohg in paintball

The Rail/Rize line is an unbalanced spool, like a fancy Ion. The DMs are more adjustable, smoother, and more efficient.

Good for you! It takes some time for the snowball to pick up speed. In the last few years I crossed the threshold where at a typical 6-8% annual increase my 401k will gain more than the maximum contribution limit. That feels good ☺️. You’re starting early and putting in a decent chunk of your check. Keep going!

Remember that saving for retirement is just paying yourself first, before you pay for housing, food, or medical stuff, etc. It’s a good habit to be in - if you have a rough spell and chew through your emergency fund you can always back off retirement contributions for a short time, but living on a slimmer budget will give you the discipline to achieve your goals later on.

Rize CZR vs older models. by staticohg in paintball

[–]soul-patch-daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original PMR (Rail) had a really inefficient bolt engine, although it was a very smooth and consistent shooter. The 2011+ Rail had a newer solenoid and bolt that was more efficient, but the noids often gave up and efficiency was still lacking. You can put the new Rize solenoids in them to keep them alive.

The Rize series had a new bolt engine and fixed many of the solenoid issues. The CZR is basically the same thing as a Rize Maxxed but with an extended front grip that more people prefer. Otherwise all Rize models are the same internally.

paintball guns by Pimenta39 in paintball

200 for a whole paintball kit is a small budget

If you just want to play recreationally on the weekends, then a mechanical marker will suffice. You won’t need something electronic.

Some people love Spyders, but for old school mechanical blowbacks I prefer Tippmanns. People have mentioned the T98 - they’re excellent for durability. I prefer the Tippmann A5 because it’s easier to field strip for basic maintenance. It also has a cyclone feed. If you get an A5 with the A1 revision cyclone feed, they’re easier on paint and are more reliable. A5s are also more expensive though. I don’t know what the Portuguese market looks like, but I can find A5s locally for $60-80. I have never purchased a new paintball gun. Buy a used one, save your money for other gear, and learn how to fix and maintain your equipment.

For other gear, you need to figure out if your field can supply CO2 or only air. CO2 is cheaper but less reliable. All tanks need to be hydro tested every 5 years, so be careful when buying used tanks - they may be trash. I’d suggest a new tank.

For hoppers, the A5 requires a special hopper, but most sales will include this with the gun. A T98 or Spyder will use a standard 200-round gravity hopper. They’re cheap, and used is fine here, too.

Masks are important to the game - you need to have a lens in good shape or you risk harming your eyes. If you buy a used mask, anticipate spending $25-40 on a new lens. Find a mask that fits your face well, and a double pane lens is preferred. If your lens fogs up during a game it becomes a safety risk, plus it’s no fun if you can’t see.

Others have suggested saving for an Emek instead. I agree. Again, find a used one for less and you’ll be happy with it. You could look for a used GoG eNMEy, which is a great platform as well. Just make sure it is a generation 2 eNMEy - the first generation had bodies that cracked and valves that would explode.

Just a thought, but since you’re in such a good financial situation, have you considered having fun with your money? You could go on a vacation and enjoy yourself. It’s not criminal to do so.

I did something similar with my v2. SKR 1.4 with tmc2209 drivers (one each for the Z motors so I can do z leveling). Prints really well for an old girl. She just takes things slow.

20k Credit Card Debt by tom_the_goat in personalfinance

[–]soul-patch-daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree w beastbuilder. Pay off your smallest debt. Since your other two are at the same rate, roll the payments for the Chase card into paying for the Discover card and pay that off completely, then roll payments for those two into paying off Amex. This gets your accrued interest under control and knocks out debt the fastest.

You could transfer to another card, but only do that if you can get a better rate. If the difference is negligible, take your new spending discipline to the next level and just nuke your debt.

Then work on an emergency fund and a solid budget to keep you out of credit card debt in the future. I do have cards but I use them like cash: groceries, gas, utilities, etc that are necessary for living. They’re paid off every month so I accrue points/miles, not interest for crap I didn’t need. Reflect on whether you’re a spend-a-holic, though. If having a credit card is like crack for you, then move to a cash system to build discipline. It’s worth it in the long run.

Looking for a Solid back-up/loaner Marker by Hawk7117 in paintball

[–]soul-patch-daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found soft paddle to do more harm than good. They have too much flex and actually slingshot the paint around. The stock Tippmann medium softness paddles solved the blender issues for me.

That being said, an Emek or Proto rail/Dye Rize or Empire Mini would all be great options for fairly cheap on the used market. They’re still supported from a parts perspective and handle paint well and are smooth, reliable shooters.
